UK iPhone 5 thread

buying a iPhone 5 in US

Im going to the states next month, so was thinking perhaps getting one their instead, saving about £100! Ive got the 4S at the minute, and that was a world phone, but all the band talk and confusion has got me confused!!! From what i can gather the Verizon model A1429 is the same as the GSM uk one A1429 or is it a different one??

Correct. EE are not open to customers yet. All they have said is that is coming soon.

It could be that they start signing up customers and are up and running before the 21st but we don't know and as its only just over a week away seems unlikely.

If it was me I would be unhappy to sign up to an contract with T-Monbile unless they can tell you for sure what will happen when you want to move to EE.
 
All info from providers is very scarce still.

I'm with Orange/T-Mobile. Should i get a nano-sim off them once available. Should i wait to transfer to EE and get one from them ? Albeit the same company apparently.

EE are doing lots of Promo but giving little info. I think there will be lots of people pre-ordering the IP5 with with little or no idea when they'll be able to use it.

If you want to use 4G in the UK, you need to get the GSM A1249 variant as that's the only device that supports the frequency that EE will use for their LTE.
 
When pre-ordering the iPhone 5, do you have to pay in full? Or do you pay a smaller amount to pre-order, then settle-up before dispatch/on collection?

Thanks guys, I know nobody is taking pre orders yet. I am going to go with T-Mobile this time round.
 
Nano sim collected from my local Three store today, was told it should cost £5.11 but got it for free.
 
Just had an online chat with Apple UK online re: iPhone 5 pre-order time..

Basically, they don't know!!

info on pre-orders

Hey guys I was just wondering if anyone can give me a rundown on what the Vodafone upgrade system was for the 3G and the iPhone 4. I changed providers from O2 to Vodafone for the 4 and so don’t know if I can pre orderover the phone or online Also they will deliver for Friday or do I have to queue again.

I said this earlier but it is relevant.
I am with Orange and went in today to see what they could tell me. Very little as it turned out, but after I asked how moving to EE would happen he said that I would be able to move over to EE but t would be a new contract so the clock on a 2year contract would start again, rather than from my start of contract with Orange if that makes sense>

it wouldn't make sense to open up the orders during the early hours would it? i do remember pre-ordering some iDevice at 1am though...

Haha, I bet they've sent a micro sim. The guy seemed clueless to any difference.

I had a convo with an Orange sales guy, I accidentally said micro sim to him and he corrected me saying "iPhone 5 will only take nano sim" so they're not all bad ;p
 
ahh all this talking via web chat... think i'll go into a store and speak to a real person about it once my iPhone 5 is pre-ordered.
