I got impatient waiting till Monday for delivery from apple and decided to take a trip to the apple store in Aberdeen.

They have lots of stock in and could offer every phone variety. So picked up my new iPhone 5. Very happy with it.

First one I opened had a tiny blemish near the metal join at the side so the staff swapped it.

I was very tempted when i was there this afternoon as well, but decided to wait, i did have a good play with the demos (its so light!!) and purchase an extra lightning cable while i was there though

has anyone seen the Daily Mail have been monitoring this thread for a prefabricated story on damaged units? they're such tossers.

Wouldn't surprise me.

The DM's arrogant, narcissistic, hypocritical readers would believe any BS that's written by them.

They could fabricate an entire story about tiny metal eating midgets that have been microscopically discovered coming out of the iphone 5's back plate to steal the "Flakies" and some tosser would believe them.

Did they have any cases or adapters? Will be in for the football so might as well make it worth while

Just a little point on Apple Maps,

Obviously the Satellite imaging is terrible and the lack of street view is crap,

But i was out in the car all day and decided to use the turn by turn just to see how good it is,

It was spot on, as good as any stand alone sat nav ive used, instant re routing, clear instructions.

Brilliant

Anyone notice that the iPhone 5 headphone output is lower than the 4S, and if you try to go higher to compensate you start getting volume too high warnings?

Went to a works 'do' this afternoon and had lots of people coming up to look at my phone. Pretty much the first thing they all commented on was the lighter weight and the thinness of the phone. They all seemed to like it.

I would agree with that, I got a bit lost in a strange area this afternoon so thought I would give it a try. Told Siri to navigate home, and seamlessly and smoothly navigation opened and gave perfect directions.

Yeah was the same consensus with me at work today. I must admit my very first impression was just how light it was.

You'll probably find that The Sun are too. It's shocking how thick the people are that comment on those sites.

Bit of advice - if you've got an iPhone on order for delivery from Apple, or direct from one of the networks - cancel it and go into the shop.

They are getting tons of the things in. The Watford shop (arguably one of the least popular shops) had 15 pallets arrive today - at once! I also spoke to the one over at Milton Keynes - loads in stock, not a problem picking one up at any time today.

Just stay away from them early in the morning as you get the scalpers there.

Really? Then how come when I went to the Milton Keynes store today they had no stock?

It was supposed to be easy!

So, after going through the hassle of the iPhone4 launch two years ago (I reserved a phone in store thinking I could just turn up and pick it up...how wrong was I!), I thought I'd take the 'easy' route and upgrade with Orange.

Being away in Spain with work, I couldn't go in to an Orange shop to organise my upgrade, so resorted to the online system. After a little bit of down time on the site, I was able to process through to confirmation at about 8:30am UK time. Great...until I got a message on my phone telling me my bank had bloked a payment for a phone from Spain! After an half hour phonecall to my bank and then Orange I finally managed to re-order at about 2pm UK time.

So...I wasn't hugely fussed about getting the phone on launch day, but thought it would be nice. Anyway...needless to say that like every Orange customer I got zero confirmation other than the 'your shiney new phone is on its way'.

So, as I'm driving back to the airport in Spain on Friday morning, I get a text with the 'Your order is being delivered on Friday, to re-arrange text...'. That'd be great.....if it wasn't already Friday on on the van an hour before they sent the text! So a quick text to my housemate who finishes work at lunch anyway, and fingers crossed he'd be there for the UKMail van.

No.

Attempted Delivery at 11am! Awesome. So I phone UKMail this morning to ask whether I can collect from the depot today. 'No the depots closed, as we're re-delivering today (Sat)'.

So...I've been sitting here all day and now at 9:52pm, it hasn't turned up. I've got the day off on Monday anyway, so have just tried to use their online system to select 'collect on Monday' and it won't let me! It will only let me re-deliver on Monday! What?! So my current only hope is to phone them first thing Monday and see if they can get it off the van. If not, I'll have to cancel a morning appointment and hope they deliver before 1pm before I leave for a meeting I absolutly have to go to. All this now to stop them sending the thing back to Orange and causing yet more phonecalls/hassle.

Why oh why does this have to be so difficult?!

Bloody hell. Thought I'd call Orange again. Didn't realise there was a specific number just for activations. Spoke to a really nice lady who said there was a bar on my phone which they put on for security reasons in transit, fair enough. She removed it and it worked instantly. I also gave her my PAC code which will go through on Tuesday. Great service, just wish I spoke to her last night rather than the Indian guy who said it was barred because it hand't been activated. I've been waiting all day for nothing!!

I went through the same thing with my ip4!

Been a good test on my iPhone 5 battery today... I been to Southampton and back from Birmingham for the football.. less said about that the better. Anyhow, took it off charge at about 8:30am this morning, auto-brightness... on 3G or Edge all day. Used some Siri, a lot of Twitter, Facebook, Sports apps and some typing on Pages. Also watched about 20 minutes of the Swansea-Everton game on Sky Go over 3G on 100% brightness. Back at home and at 8pm i have a battery of 14%. Not bad i think.

Not bad at all!

What do you guys think about trying to pick one up middle to end of next week from an apple store?? Meadowhall preferably because its the nearest one? Do they get stock daily? Will try the reserve option.

I just walked into soton last night and picked one up. They still had plenty and were getting more on Monday. Phone first but i reckon your odds are quite good

Are any of the UK users reporting the same pre-delivery scratch reports as the US users?

Alittle unfair online orders are 3 weeks behind but plenty of stock in stores? If people cancel online orders it would take so long to get money back they couldn't get into an apple store quickly anyway!

Sorry if this has been answered, but my iPhone from t mobile came with two small dent/scratches on the edge. If I were to swap it would it have to be through t mobile?

If my apple store were able to swap it I would, but if it involved sending mine to t mobile I don't think I could be bothered.

You can get it swapped at Apple (Assuming they have stock)

Went to Manchester Arndale today

Queue outside the store for iPhone 5, about 2pm and they've sold out of 32gb Black, so I get 64gb Black instead :D

Then downstairs I bump into a Ghost Armor stand who are handily doing iPhone 5 skins, so got it all skinned up straight out of the box

Leaving it 24 hours to let the bubbles settle down but considering I'm upgrading from iPhone 2G...Beautiful phone! As soon as I picked up the demo unit in store I knew I was buying it!
