Impressive stuff. That's the thing. You're never really guaranteed good speeds everywhere. It's a guessing game really. Is it true if you can't get 3g reception on three you're out of luck completely as they do not have a 2g network?

Have yours activated? Mine was entered into the system at 11am but they say it is still pending and will take upto 24hrs, they at least credited back the £10 back that I paid for the sim as a goodwill gesture.

I at least managed to activate the phone so I can use it, but I can't make any calls or send and texts.

Ours were activated straight away. No 10 minute wait or anything.

Had to take both sims back though as the T-Mobile coverage was no better that 3's at our house. So now were are rockin some simplicity sims from O2.

Have went full circle in the past week with carriers. Went from O2 to 3. 3 to T-Mobile. T-Mobile to O2 and at last our phones have coverage in our house.

I think in areas they are strong in 3G they're switching off their 2g roaming. I haven't seen the 2g fall back in ages. Basically if you love data they are really good. But if your more concerned in having a realiable or voice signal then yeah be careful. Having said they have purchased some EE 1800mhz spectrum which might improve network next year.

No that's not true. Three can roam on other UK networks for 2G.

But the truth is if the signal is that bad you won't want to use the Internet
Just calls and that works fine.

Incidentally my 19Mbits on 3 is in Eastbourne.

Tethering on T-Mobile

Both me and my friend both got the full monty package with our iPhone 5s.

I have tethering but he does not. Whats that about?

I thought tmobile took away the tethering recently from their plans.

3 only network that does all you can eat tethering now.

Mine has 3 nicks in the aluminium and 3 nicks on the beveled edge. I have a replacement coming next week.

Did you call Apple for the replacement?

I called Apple for mine (non-uniform screen + antenna nick) and they told me i'd have to send mine in first and then they'd send a replacement which means;

1. i would be phone-less for almost 2 weeks (have to ship off 4S if keeping iP5)
2. i might get something worse.

I was hoping they'd send the replacement straight away. Now i'm considering cancelling for a refund altogether. A decision made easier by the fact that my 4S is absolutely perfect as is and i have zero qualms rocking it for another 12 months.

Bloody hell. Thought I'd call Orange again. Didn't realise there was a specific number just for activations. Spoke to a really nice lady who said there was a bar on my phone which they put on for security reasons in transit, fair enough. She removed it and it worked instantly. I also gave her my PAC code which will go through on Tuesday. Great service, just wish I spoke to her last night rather than the Indian guy who said it was barred because it hand't been activated. I've been waiting all day for nothing!!

*exhales*

I've ordered mine, 64GB in Slate and Grey. Can't wait! :) My first smartphone, and I adore my iTouch 2nd Gen, so excited!

Are the iPhone 5's similar to the iPad 3's, in which you shouldn't let the battery charge all the way down?

Is it better to start charging when it hits 40-50%? Or do they not work like that..

I received mine today from UKMail. One small nick just near the right speaker grill. Have called Apple and a replacement is coming out to me. For those concerned about loosing a phone for a week or so, the service works by you getting a call from the courier to arrange a pick up - you just tell them that you want to arrange it for next week - that way the new phone will be with you beforehand. CS told me that although the email with the new phone says '3-4 weeks delivery' it is actually a priority order and gets shipped quickly.

I must say, I was very impressed with how Apple dealt with it - it's a small nick, but having paid £600 for a product, I want it to be perfect. Good on them for replacing the phone for me.

Are networks usually true to their word in that my number won't actually transfer until Tuesday? Or is there a possibility it could go through today or tomorrow?

Alternative is to take it to an apple shop in a few weeks when they will have stock, can you ask fr some kind of reference that you hae raised the issue as soon as it arrived?

I am dreading opening mine now!!

All lithium ion batteries can charge whenever. iPhone or iPad will never let you run the battery to zero. The gauge says zero % but actually still has charge. Apple recommend charging whenever you can and keep it topped up.

So will be ok as long as you ask courier to pick it up from I as late as possible. And hope other phone turns up...

I charge mine to 100% out of the box, then wear it down to the point it turns off, at the same time making the phone hot to help things settle down, and then charge it back too 100% whilst off. I think this helps to calibrate the readings, but who knows. :p

You can take it to an apple store and they will swap it for a refurb - which is a new phone as there are no old iPhone 5's. It will just be without a box but you can keep your existing box.
