Typically you can't reserve popular in demand products like newly released iPhones and iPads. They are sold on a first come first serve basis.

You also cannot reserve them on the Apple site for in store pick up either. I think this is possible in the US by paying in full online and then picking up at a local Apple store but not here in the UK.

----------

They don't.

I suspect they didn't actually debit it but just reserved it for debit later at dispatch. Very few online retailers take money at time of order and Apple isn't one of them.

Nope it showed up right away, the money was gone. I even checked my statement over the phone, the money came out

Do any three stores sell the iPhone 5 with their contracts or is it preorders only at the moment? :)
When I was in my local store yesterday they quoted 10th October for delivery, you could reserve with a deposit I believe.

incorrect, i asked apple on this and they said it would take 5-7 days to return money to a debit card even if the item is not dispatched (or with weeks to run)

You are correct. I found this out when I needed an Amazon buyer to give me a refund back to my card. Took 5 days.

Sometimes your bank can be fantastic like mine. They gave me a temporary refund until the amazon seller's money had cleared back to my account. I didn't have to wait 5 days. Just 15 mins :)

Yes its a nice way to screw up people being able to get into a local store if they find out they have some stock left.

Hi all - I've been lurking here for a long time but am now compelled to contribute!

I ordered a White 64gb handset on Friday 14th 8.55am (got email about problems with payment verification, rang them and got through at 11:30am and sorted everything out and confirmed that my order was in the queue). I am an existing Orange customer and ordered the phone as an additional handset (not upgrade, as had a terrible experience with iPhone 4 as upgrade before).....

Same boat, although as an upgrader. Their system crashed on friday morning as you probably now know. I couldn't get any information (other than that my order hadn't gone through properly and £209 had gone from my bank) until yesterday. Finally got a tracking number for UKmail and finally it now says delivery for tomorrow. I guess we should tolerate the late delivery - although surely they would expect it being a tad busier than normal on pre-order day? - but the absolute incompetence and lack of information held by Orange staff is jaw dropping. Had i not hounded them, the only message/confirmation/receipt/thanks for order I would have since the 14th would be a text last night giving helpful hints 'to help you getting up and running or your new phone.' Shambles, and makes you want to rant the entire time! It should be something to look forward to. Anyway, if you can get a tracking number for UKmail - mine begins 085....- it might bring good news. Hope you get yours soon.

The iPhone 4 does not support FaceTime over 3G regardless of which version of iOS you have.

Oh :( is it supported in iPhone 4S...

It's a pity you upgraded the iPhone 4 to iOS 6, now there is no possible way for FaceTime over 3G to work. If you were still on 5.1.1, there would have been ways to make it work ;).

Oh really... how's that then just out of interest?

Using this link you can apparently reserve an iPhone 5 at an AppleStore.

http://www.apple.com/uk/retail/iphone/

Has anybody tried it? It gives me some kind of "communication error".

Just tried it and it seems to have worked fine for me. After you fill it in it says "thanks for your request, we'll email you before 9pm to confirm a reservation and you pick it up tomorrow. If we don't email you, we have been unable to reserve at this time, please try again later"

Anyone know what stock levels are like in stores at the minute?

I reserved mine at 9:01am this morning after seeing that page updated on the Apple site last night. I have received no communication from Apple yet.

I don't understand why it says they will contact you at 9pm on the same day to confirm a reservation for collection the next day.

My nearest store stated they are preferring online reservations rather than walk in's.

I'm after a sim free 32 gig version but it appears I have 0 zero chance of getting one today.

My guess would be that by 9pm all stores will have closed and they will have taken night deliveries so they'll have a clear idea of inventory to allocate reservations. I'd guess that they can't do same day reservations incase they're about to sell the last phone and have to turn down a customer who is about to pay, or something like that.

Did you get yours on three from an apple store? If you did do they offer the same contracts as direct from three?

Yes, and yes. In fact I think they had more contracts on offer. They had ipads showing all the plans on the tables in front of the display models. The ultimate 300 seemed like the best plan on offer. Works out at £943 for 2 years on unlimited data. Compare that to a £12.50/mo contract (Without unlimited data) and buying the phone outright, which would work out at £829. Pretty decent contract IMO.

Glad I got unlimited data too. It's used up 800mb data just from email, twitter and facebook.

Let me guess - thats your eBay account. They arent propper ones and cut down sims are NOT as fast as they are not the newer LTE compatible ones.

Also you'd be a fool to use the 5 on any network other than T-Mobile/Orange or Three as you'll be stuck on SLOW connections and pay MORE over the length of a contract.

NO NETWORK has LTE yet and when it does it will be EE in a few weeks. Then you will need a new LTE EE SIM as existing Orange/T-Mobile sims won't work on 4G but that is the only case where your right.

It doesn't make any difference if you cut down a standard or micro sim to nano size it will work perfectly on 3G.

Anyone who had there estimated delivery changed from early October to tomorrow getting it via TNT and if so what died website fell you about your package? Thanks in advance...

Can you please expand on this one? I'm planning to change my phone number in a few weeks, and so goes for my carrier (I had O2 till now). I would use iPhone 5 mainly in London, which operation is better fit for internet heavy user? So far I've seen that 3 is the only one to offer unlimited data.

They are referring to the fact that the iPhone 5 will only EVER work on LTE for T-Mobile/Orange and Three. It will never be compatible with O2 or Vodafone even when they have LTE as they use different bands. I got mine with Three as best price, unlimited data and the possibility of LTE in a years time

Orange5000

Special delivery don't do Saturdays unless they pay the upgrade fee. Which I doubt.

Update from Orange.....they didn't go out RM special delivery......they're Ukmail......and have no tracking number.....and will be delivered tomorrow between 8-6....sigh....

I have a GS3 and an iPhone 5 and I did a side by side panorama shot and I can say I was surprised at just how much better the iPhone was.

The GS3 had lots of blurriness and artifacting while the iPhone 5 looked sharp and crisp. Much much better.

Just for the record I think there can be little doubt that the GS3 is a better phone than the iPhone 5, with the exception of build quality where it doesn't come close. This is me being objective. I still find myself loving the iPhone 5 despite not having a lightening cable and having to borrow one to charge my phone and a small chip.

That is what Apple does to us.... Makes us passionate and love products that aren't necessarily the best but make us think they are.

I want to be clear. I love the iPhone 5. It is amazing. I'm using it non stop. So much I'm out of battery after a few hours (I hope that isn't a fault and just my high usage) but rationally the iPhone 5 isn't the best phone there is, it is one of the best but not the best.

Please don't hate on me for saying that. I have has every iPhone since the original but Apple need to catch up on the software side.

Serious problems with my iPhone 5

Q'd overnight in Belfast Thursday. Got 32GB white. Lots of problems, text sticking when typing messages, email, camera/video lense not opening, time elapse when answer phone calls before caller could be heard, hit loudspeaker on phone and mute operated etc. etc. Apple support suggested restore iOS. Phone crashed when tried that. Good techie friend diagnosed serious RAM problem.
Went back to Belfast yesterday and got a perfectly working replacement from the nice Apple people at the store.

Interested to know if anyone else has this problem or has found discussion of this kind of problem? Mine could have been a one-off dud.

I noted lot of advertising for Samsung product this week. I read Samsung was one of suppliers of RAM for iPhones until Apple cancelled supply from them

.........

----------

Looking at the more reliable Reuters report, it seems that the first batch of iPhones 5 do not have Samsung DRAM. Could an alternate source have supplied inferior product?
