I pre-ordered on the evening of the 14th with estimated delivery of 2-8 Oct.

Black 32GB and it is like you still showing processing items :/

Went to the apple store near me for a genius bar appointment and decided if they had any in stock id buy one there and then and cancel the order, but they didn't have stock.

If the status hasn't changed by Friday I'll be reserving and going to the store to pick up on Saturday (if they have stock!). Toying with the idea of doing that today but the stores about an hour away and I can't be bothered to go after work

Same skippy. I ordered on the evening of the 14th a 32GB black and mine still says processing but I live too far from any Apple store so need to wait it out :(

Anyone else experiencing feedback through headphones on iPhone 5? I was on the train whilst going through a tunnel, my phone was looking for signal and I could hear it feeding back through my headphones.

Ip5 uk

Just to let you orange people popped into shop today and they are not even getting info as there phones and net crashing and can't even tell you how many phones are being delivered daily.
Anyway ordered by phone preorder day still waiting and uk mail have just delivered my 2 phones . He said everyone's doing a dance at the door . I asked why no text he said should of but the surge and traffic at depots is mental and he's only doing iPhones since Friday min 500 phones a day and on overtime till 9.30 pm at night so I would say try and sit it out as no one is able to help as so mental. If your in Kent they are working 6 till 9.30 all week for deliverys . Hope this helps.

The reason the 4G@1800 situation is easy for EE is because they own a huge chunk at 1800Mhz and can put a matched pair of bands (which is how 4G works) inside it, move calls off to 3G and be done with it. The other operators can't do this because they don't have a large enough band to fit the matched pair in along with their current demand.

Three can, they have 2x15MHz chunks of 1800MHz spectrum purchased from EE. They just have to wait for EE to either release it (Sept 2013) or for EE to be made to release it sooner.

Yes if the other operators fail to postpone the auction i assume the first thing they will do is lodge a complaint with ofcom against EE and seek an injunction to postpone the earlier launch from EE

They can't, they already tried to block it and lost.

looks like there is going to be a delay to EE's roll out of 4G in the UK until next year.

lol at the people who signed up to Orange/T-mobile to get 4G.

The Telegraph article doesn't say that at all. The article says:

While EE plans to roll out its 4G services within weeks, rivals must wait for a Government auction to buy the radio spectrum space needed to run a superfast network.

Everything Everywhere, formed by the merger of Orange and T-Mobile, has a surplus of 2G spectrum and successfully applied to Ofcom to reuse it and introduce 4G services early. It plans to start offering 4G subscriptions next month.

The other networks are trying to force OFCOM to bring forward the auction so that there isn't as much of a gap between the EE launch and their own launch post auction.

Orange nightmares!

My call to Orange on the 14th Sep was answered at 8:01am, and the upgrade processed by 08:15. I'd like to think that I was in the first 1000 people to have ordered over the phone. Unfortunately the muppet answering my call sent me a 32Gb 4S instead of the 5. :(

I had to return the phone that arrived at my work before I did on Monday last, and it didn't get processed until Wednesday afternoon last week. I was straight on the phone again and to be fair to Orange, they subsequently waived the £39.99 upgrade fee.

BUT, I was then a good few days behind the drag curve on ordering, has anyone else that ordered mid last week managed to find out any information from Orange as to when they might get a delivery? (And not just the standard it'll take up to 30 days quote?!?)

Thanks

GG

that's correct I recall reading that one of the terms of the 1800mhz roll out by EE was that they had to sell 25% of the spectrum to prevent unfair competition.

just requested a reserve for a 64GB black at Reagent street in London. what are the chances itll be in stock? anyone have any experieince?

F*ckin great! I'm just about to leave the house for a few hours!

Orange UK

I ordered my upgrade to the iphone 5 black 32GB on the morning of the 14th, the 1st day. They've taken my money and I still have no idea when I can expect delivery.

I assume at least some people have started receiving their iphones via Orange?

The woman on the phone yesterday told me I was high up on the pre-order list so would not have to wait the full 30 days. Wish I knew a ball park date especially after taking my money!

Bit of a noob question. Is there any reason why the carriers can't retune the frequencies of the 4G so it will work on the wavelength supported by the iPhone 5?

That aside, I cannot believe OFCOM allowed EE to do this, but it merely serves to highlight how far behind the UK is in terms of technology.

I have done the same, I called them on sunday to return and change to white, I was told it would take around 5 working days but maybe longer due to the colour change. I got an email yesterday saying that they plan to ship my replacement within 3-5 working days. Did you get this email too? if so on what date.

I got the email yesterday (monday) and then later that day i got the shipment email saying it would be with me by or on the 25th (today). And i've just received it now.

My Orange experience

F*ckin great! I'm just about to leave the house for a few hours!

I posted earlier about not having heard anything from Orange, having ordered in the morning on the 14/9.

My phone arrived yesterday afternoon (Monday) via UKMail. I had rung Orange 10 minutes earlier for about the 8th time and finally managed to get a consignment number, which told me that UKMail had attempted delivery at "00:00" on the Friday launch day, and that the customer had requested a redelivery!!

Obviously they had never attempted a delivery (though their records showed they had received the phone on the Thursday). I couldn't have requested a redelivery when I had no information. I had made sure someone was at home "in case" since Friday morning. Massively inconvenient.

The learning I have from this is that Orange's process was a total shambles, and UK Mail were totally in over their heads, and were clearly not bothering to keep their systems up-to-date. No one knew where my phone was and when I would get it, and I got no information. It just suddenly arrived, three days after it was meant to.

Personally I hate being made to feel completely powerless in these situations. For me, getting the phone finally made me forget how fed up I was with the rubbish customer service, which I'm sure is what Orange count on.

And for those who have said how good UK Mail are, I've had only two deliveries from them, and both were 'bumped' with "Customer not available" when I had been at home and it was obvious no delivery attempt had actually been made. All the other couriers can get packages to us. I think they're rubbish.

Good luck with the wait for delivery! :)

The frequencies that O2, Vodafone etc. will be using are part of the Analogue TV spectrum. They need to wait for that to be turned off so that they can use it.

Retuning would mean that it would clash with something else in the radio waves. Sadly for such a small country there's lots of information floating around out there on various MHz bands.

For anyone interested about the whole scuffgate thing and returning your iPhone for a replacement/exchange to a white one...

I received my 32gb black iPhone 5 on Friday, and immediately phoned Apple and said i wanted a exchange to white and she put it all through and a courier phoned me yesterday to arrange pickup of the black one, we agreed for it to be picked up today.

I checked my emails this morning and the white iPhone was dispatched yesterday and is due for delivery today via TNT.

So all in all, it's a pretty painless process, apart from restoring and backing up several times!

Cheers, followed your advice and got them to swap mine out!

Problem is the white isn't problem free either. It just doesn't show as much because of the similar colours.

Exactly why i swapped. I know white isn't problem free, but i'd rather it now show them as obviously as the black does if you know what i mean. I'll be getting full skin protection as soon as it's available.

Talks in the balance over 4G services said:
Attempts to bring superfast 4G mobile broadband services to Britain could still be held up by litigation as crunch talks between the telecoms industry and officials enter the final week.

Those close to the confidential negotiations have said that discussions are still “in the balance”, and have warned that the brinkmanship between the warring telecoms groups has meant that the UK could face the prospect of slipping behind much of the world in its mobile communications.

The talks include key issues such as accelerating the long-awaited auction of the 4G spectrum, as well as streamlining the planning system for faster rollout of mobile masts. One person said that progress had been made, and that participants were more hopeful, but no resolution had yet been reached.

The telecoms operators all want to launch 4G services as quickly as possible but the move by regulators to authorise Everything Everywhere (EE) to launch a network based on existing spectrum rather than wait for the auction process to conclude has angered rivals. They fear that this first-mover advantage could be critical to winning customers.

Talks to end the threat of legal action from its rivals are being held between the telecoms operators and Ofcom. The groups are making proposals to create a more lasting legal truce, but there has been no resolution yet with just a week to go before the end of a government-brokered month-long standstill agreement that prevents legal action as well as any 4G launch.

There remains the threat of “years of litigation”, according to one person close to the talks, if other operators seek to block any rollout of the mobile broadband services being planned by EE. In turn, there could be legal action to interrupt the already long-delayed auction of spectrum that could be used by the other groups for 4G, which had been expected later this year.

4G has been pushed to the highest priority for Ofcom, and the last act by outgoing culture secretary Jeremy Hunt was to try to broker a resolution. Any decision to litigate against the 4G auction process would be a blow to the government’s ambitions for the digital economy, having identified superfast mobile broadband as a key means of driving economic growth.

The result could have a huge impact on government finances next year given the £4bn that could be raised by the auction of 4G spectrum, according to analysts, as well as an estimated boost of national GDP by 0.5 per cent, or £75bn over a decade.

The government has put aside more than £800m in funding to ensure the UK has the best mobile and fixed broadband in Europe, but has been helpless to prevent a legal escalation that has held up 4G services for four years already.

The constant threat of legal action has forced a number of consultations and proposals made about how the government would auction off the necessary spectrum.

In the meantime, many other countries from the US and Germany to Uzbekistan and Lithuania have adopted 4G networks, which can rapidly transmit mobile data such as videos and social media opening up greater possibilities for phones and tablets on the move. The 4G network can also replace fixed line broadband in places that are difficult to reach.

EE, the UK’s largest mobile network with the Orange and T-Mobile brands, said this month that it wanted to launch 4G in the UK this year, but did not give an exact time owing to the standstill agreement that prohibited the launch of the network ahead of the talks.

Even so, EE said that it planned to reach 16 UK cities by Christmas and 98 per cent of population by 2014. However, the other three operators – O2 , Vodafone and Three – will need to wait to buy spectrum at the 800MHz frequency at the auction.

Those people with knowledge of the talks say that four separate working groups have been formed to help accelerate the auction date, and the time taken to prepare the airwaves for 4G use.

The talks also include the early formation of a company called MitCo that will be tasked with preventing any interference with services such as TV. The cost of preparing the spectrum for 4G use could be about £100m, according to people with knowledge of the situation. A group is also looking at changes required to streamline planning consents for mobile sites.

Is the white aluminium treated the same way the MacBook Pros's are? because I recently noticed on my macbook pro that I cherish has a little scratch on one of the corners and in some lights it shows up a very noticeable dark grey!

Ah that's rubbish :( I think they should make pre orders more of a priority considering we've shown support of the company by ordering! If only I'd been paid a day earlier! :(

I have been trying to reserve one in-store each morning but to no avail.
If I try to order one online, it states 3-4 weeks delivery.
I really hate the launch of these things!

I received my black 64GB on release day after pre ordering just after midday in the 14th via telephone. Didn't receive a text from the courier until 8am on the 21st.
