My number was supposed to port from Vodafone to 3 today and as of yet it still hasn't completed. Calls and texts are still being directed to my Vodafone sim yet the temporary number 3 gave me seems to now be disconnected.

Looks like the process has started but not completed, my experience of porting before suggests it should have finished by this time! Don't know what to do, is it even worth phoning 3 or even Vodafone to find out, or should I just wait it out. Have tried the usual stuff like removing and inserting SIM card, turning phone off and on etc.

1 of the Orange lucky 5000

I posted earlier about not having heard anything from Orange, having ordered in the morning on the 14/9.

My phone arrived yesterday afternoon (Monday) via UKMail. I had rung Orange 10 minutes earlier for about the 8th time and finally managed to get a consignment number, which told me that UKMail had attempted delivery at "00:00" on the Friday launch day, and that the customer had requested a redelivery!!

Obviously they had never attempted a delivery (though their records showed they had received the phone on the Thursday). I couldn't have requested a redelivery when I had no information. I had made sure someone was at home "in case" since Friday morning. Massively inconvenient.

The learning I have from this is that Orange's process was a total shambles, and UK Mail were totally in over their heads, and were clearly not bothering to keep their systems up-to-date. No one knew where my phone was and when I would get it, and I got no information. It just suddenly arrived, three days after it was meant to.

Personally I hate being made to feel completely powerless in these situations. For me, getting the phone finally made me forget how fed up I was with the rubbish customer service, which I'm sure is what Orange count on.

And for those who have said how good UK Mail are, I've had only two deliveries from them, and both were 'bumped' with "Customer not available" when I had been at home and it was obvious no delivery attempt had actually been made. All the other couriers can get packages to us. I think they're rubbish.

Good luck with the wait for delivery! :)

I'm one of the 5000 Orange customer idiots who said 'yes' when Orange phoned last Thursday to offer to bump my pre-ordered 32gb black to 64gb white and guaranteed Sat delivery for £30.

I've been talking with a very helpful Orange customer service chap but he simply isnt getting the information. The latest is that there was a SAP issue (ironic as I'm a SAP Project Manager....perhaps I should offer my services ?) with the warehouse and 'a' number of the 5000 phones didnt get pushed for delivery. Apparently they're still there, in stock, and someone is now manually going through the list of customers.........

Anyone else go for the £30 extra payment ? (now refunded btw)

Have you restarted the phone with your 3 SIM in it? If you have and it's been a few hours already then you should give 3 a call.

Yeah done this. I can no longer access my Vodafone online account, it says number inactive or suspended, yet I can still call it and it rings my 4 with Vodafone sim in it when you call it. So something is going on but it's been like this all day now. Have rebooted both phones several times.

I would agree, I did this exact thing today. I had enough went to the Covent Garden store without a reservation and was able to upgrade my tmobile contract. It is well known even amongst the staff tmobile are even one of the most awkward networks to upgrade with in store.

I couldn't believe my divine luck. I ended up with a black 32gb with no appointment and reservation. You just have to say you want it on contract or upgrade. They are usually reservation or out of stock for mainly sim free models.

In regards to the reservation system I also got confirmation of getting one for tomorrow. Before I went to Covent Garden I applied for three stores and ended up with Regent Street for the model I want. I would give it to somebody else but it says it needs your name on the ID and there appears to be no way to cancel it from the email.

But yeah apple store is the way to go they had full month 41 for tmobile contracts as well. Exactly the same price as the carrier and with all the stock. Tmobile's handling of the whole launch has been ropey (but I'm staying cos they're cheap and potential 4G).

I would be advising anybody wanting an iPhone on contract to either go via reservation or try Covent garden. That was also 6pm last night (24th) that I got the phone.

great to hear that you was successful in getting an iPhone 5 mate. Good stuff.

Since I emailed T Mobile last night, surprise surprise, I've not heard a thing back from them. They are so useless its untrue. Ive never in my life come across a company as poor as them when it comes to dealing with their customers. How did you go about cancelling your order? did you phone them?

If worst comes to worst and I cant get hold of them to cancel my order, ill just keep it running, go into an Apple store to get my new contract and when the T Mobile one does arrive, just send it back. I don't want to do it that way but i might not have a choice due to how incompetent they are.

Has anyone been able to make a online iphone 5 reserveration today?

I've been trying all day from work, but kept getting the error "server unreachable" after I click the last submit button.

I've placed 3 reservations (different stores) today and they all went through ok. I did get that error yesterday, but just re-submitted and it worked fine.

Just back from the local Apple Store. My phone had a loose battery however they did not have the means to repair instore so I now have a new iPhone 5.

Apple typically never repair iOS devices even in store unless its a quick software fix. They just swap the device with one from their warranty brown box stock.

So what's the general consensus here, are the majority buying their phones outright & using with their tariff of choice?

I find the 24 month contracts far too long. I dislike having an 18 month at the minute, let alone 24 :D

I was thinking of buying the phone & getting an O2 simplicity contract of some sort.

I guess what I'm trying to say is what's the cheapest overall option?

Ive allways found vodafones 12month contacts with iphones good value. Thats what I did last year with the 4S but this year I wasnt due an upgrade until October 9th so I purchased the phone sim free from apple and once Im due an upgrade I will get a sim only plan, I will stay with vodafone though as I find them top class

Hi, sorry for all those who haven't got their phones yet and sorry for posting this but I haven't found a UK answer yet, it's all american.

What's the best screen protector to get and where can I order it from?? I'm really loving the retina display so I don't want to compromise it but I really need a screen protector. Front and back protector ideally as I'm just wanting minimal casing (probably just a bumper).

Thanks in advance!!

spigen sgp screen protectors are the best in my opinion

So great news my iphone 5 arrived today, so quite a quick turnaround with 11 days from the date of 1st preorders.

Bad news is that it arrived damaged!!!!!

I have 1 chip on the corner, and 2 dents on the ridge of the frame, called orange and it seems I'm the 1st person to get a damaged iphone5, wow. Now I have to send it back to them and wait for a replacement!

Could I take it straight to an Apple store and get a replacement there in the shop?

Take it to the apple store in mint condition (other than dints) and they will replace it on the spot.

I gave up on this online reservation crap and just ordered a sim free version online.

Estimated delivery 18th-24th October :(

That date is likely do go down but what a lot of people have been saying. It seems Apple are fulfilling orders quicker than first expected.

Ordered mine yesterday with 3....... they said the 13th october. :(

Annoying as Ive got someone who wants to buy my iphone 4 but wants it in the next 2 weeks :(

iPhone 5 was only £109 on a 2 year contract, so thinking i might take the oppurtunity to sell my iphone 4 and my ipad 1 and use the money toward an ipad 3.

*sigh* i'm finally one of them. I can't look at my beloved 4S anymore. The screen is sooo small and it looks svelte. 4 rows of icons is so last year. :p

Has anyone had any luck with apple's reservation system in Manchester yet? Reserved the iPhone 5 32gb black at 2 stores in Manchester, Trafford Center & Arndale, and in Liverpool with multiple reservations but having no luck at all for the last three days!
Had more luck last year when you had to buy it at 9pm sharp!

This is what I've done too.

Your delivery time will defientely come down!

Glad I'm not the only one, been reserving at the same 3 stores and not got a single confirmation. I'm after a 32gb black on contract. I keep reading people saying apple are giving priority to those who want contracts but im not sure thats the case.

I visited the Liverpool store this morning and asked if i could buy one on contract. The assistant went out the back them came to tell me he cant sell me one without a reservation and that if i make one online i should be able to collect the following day. I told him i've been doing that but not had any luck. He didn't seem to know when they get deliveries and how many.

Looks like I'll just be reserving everyday until i finally get one.

I think that's the best thing to do just keep trying till we get the damn phones lol

As soon as the online reservation opens tomorrow (9am) I'm putting my request in. This morning and yesterday i did it around 9.30, but maybe more people where before me. If i don't get an email tomorrow evening then maybe it's because some store aren't getting much or any re-stocking.

I was told by the 3 store if i pre-order with them (think they wanted a deposit) i could collect it on Monday so i'm considering doing that. The only preference to going directly to apple is they seem better replacing it incase of any issues.

So my Three pre-order delivery was dated for Monday October 1st.

Just got a text from DPD parcel delivery to tell me I can have it delivered early, or on the 1st.

Have chosen for it to be delivered on Thursday!

Fingers crossed it all works nicely :)

I've been reserving it exactly at 9! But just keep trying I guess!
