I ordered mine on the 15th at around 3pm and mine says 3rd-9th. Still on processing. Would have hoped it was shipped yesterday, fingers crossed for tomorrow!

Ordered mine, black 32gb, last Saturday after launch from the local three store. They said it would not be deliverer until at least the 10th. But then I got a call Monday to say it had arrived and I could pick it up.

Loving it so far. A great improvement over my iPhone 4.

I'm still not sure I'm really that sold on 4G. If DC-HSPA can give you 40MB down, will you really notice a difference on 4G? At that speed websites are going to load instantly, music will download/stream pretty much instantly too. The only thing I can see it making a difference on is things like downloading full HD videos/movies which is pointless on an iPhone as the screen isn't 1080P, although admittedly in the future it could be. There will also be internet services in the pipelines from companies that will probably require the higher data speeds, but as of yet, no one knows. It would also be good for tethering, but I'm sure the carriers will either totally disallow tethering or charge extortionate prices for it, plus how many carriers are really going to offer unlimited 4G?

Also, I'm pretty sure where I live (North East England) will be one of the last places to get proper coverage...

That being said, I think it's embarrassing, for the country who "created" the Internet, that we're so far behind in terms of a 4G rollout.

I'm thinking along pretty similar lines. I travel a lot around the North and to West Cumbria and to get 3G is a bonus in many places. It'll be nice to have decent speeds if out and about in Newcastle but only means things load a bit faster. My work phone is going to Orange so will be interesting to see how their network compares (don't think we get EE automatically at work - only for business need).

Probably academic at the moment. Won't be getting an iPhone 5 until next weekend at the earliest now, in any case.

Agree that we're lagging but now that Tyne Tees region has moved over to digital TV, they can start releasing the spectrum to mobile data.

Does anyone know when we could just walk in and buy one? e.g in 1/2 weeks, or will it probably be at least 3?

I'd be surprised if there was any sort of free stock before the end of October. Demand is still outstripping supply, and Apple are in the process of launching in another 22 countries this weekend.

Even the on line Apple store is quoting 3-4 weeks on orders, so just walking in for one must be further away than that.

I'm in the Uk and most of the network high street stores where i reside have one of the different colours and gb storage options in stock

but.........

Issue here is they will only sell them on contracts or contract upgrades ,and not on pay as you go or sim free.

I'm patiently waiting for my local Uk Apple Store to get them back in.

I'm also in the 3rd to 9th batch.

I gave up pre-ordering last Thursday, especially with the original delivery estimate an all... IMO it doesn't make sense anymore hunting one down so close to the date that I'm expected one.

Doing all this leg work defeats the object of pre-ordering semi early!

I have a question,

I'm planning on getting the iPhone 5 32GB in Black on an Orange contract, likely on the £36 a month (but I also understand there's a £38 a month where you can join it with your iPad, is that correct?)

Anyway, since I am wanting it on contract, can I walk into my local Orange shop and get one there and then? I live in North East Scotland, Aberdeen by the way.

I also trailed the Manchester Trafford center stores yesterday and although stock was available for contract they would not take my 700 pounds off me to buy one outright.

This is because the contract phones lock to a network. Im sure you wouldnt be too happy about spending £700 and having it lock now would you ;)

Thing is that O2 are rolling out DC-HSDPA and that can be faster than EE's 4G offering. By the time O2 have rolled out 4G, it'll probably be 2014, since the auction isn't until later next year and they don't be able to start much before they know what spectrum they get.

Aren't Vodafone also rolling that out soon?

They will all roll it out as soon as they get the spectrum licences from Ofcom. The problem is only EE and Three use a spectrum currently supported by the iphone 5. The others may be supported on the ip5s or 6 or whatever is next.

They don't need a new licence to roll out DC-HSDPA (which is what is being discussed by The Game 161). DC-HSPDA runs on the current 3G network.

The new spectrum licence next year relates to LTE, and by the time Voda and O2 have a commercial LTE network the 5S/6 will already be launched.

I'm looking to buy a 64GB iPhone 5 from Carohone Warehouse sim free (yes I know they're not truly unlocked but I'm on vodafone at the minute and they do unlocking for free)

Anyway - I'm fairly sure I've heard stories of people being able to but sim free but I've called a few stores today and they said they won't sell sim free models, only upgrades or new contracts. Has anyone been able to get a sim-free model from these guys?

Also they're saying its only 2 days delivery for sim free models online (to store). Has anyone got any experience if this is indeed the case?

Thank you!

Where are you based? I brought my CPW "sim free" from their shop outside the Tottenham Court tube station. Their staff aslo told me the Oxford Circus store is selling 'sim free" iphones.

If you are not in London, best thing to do is ask the CPW staff to see which shop near you have sold "sim free" phones on the computer and then go to that store.

As Apple has stopped taking reservations, does that mean I've got any hope of being able to walk into a store and pick a unit up? (32GB Black Sim-free)?

I don't want to go with CPW as their 'sim-free' phones lock to a network when you first use a SIM card (check the small print on their online pages).

I'm only interested in a Sim-free phone as I will want to sell it in around six months.

Not true.

When I bought my 4S last November, the online Apple store said that it would be a 2-3 weeks wait so I went to my local Apple store in Reading to buy my iMac a few days later and thought I would ask on the off chance that they might have some and they had tons. I bought it there and then with my iMac.

We're talking about the status changing to 'preparing for shipment' not the iPhone being delivered.

----------

The 14th. I'm quoted 2-8th so in essence I should be 1 day ahead of you with status changing etc.

I also ordered on the 14th at midday and there's no change on the status. It's allegedly due between the 2nd and the 8th.

Remarkably calm about the whole thing actually, especially as all the sim change/number porting has already been done and I'm using the nano sim/adapter in my 4S :)

The Orange store in the Merry Hill had loads of 16GB Blacks in today.

Absolutely flawless too FWIW :)
