Is it only o2 that gives visual voicemail at the moment? How come none of the other networks ever did? was it some perk that o2 got with apple?

It was an agreement Apple had put in place before O2 got the original exclusivity on the iPhone. If the networks won't innovate by themselves at least some companies can force it on them

Turns out I did get one. Only a 300 mile round trip to do tomorrow!!

Does anyone know how to confirm that I've got a sim free reserved? I don't want to go all that way and them tell me it's a contract phone?!

Any thoughts?

What's that costing u in petrol?

Was doing my maths this afternoon and for a 64gb, it's actually quite close on contract v outright sale:

I'm looking at t-mobile/orange:

CPW are doing £31 per month + £270 up front, giving you a total of £1014 over 2 years on t mobile (can't seem to find the same deal on the t mobile site but wouldn't be the first time CPW have a better deal than the provider!)
Buy the phone outright & the £10.50 Orange SIM only contract and you get to £952.

Yeah, there's some pretty good deals out there.

Another way to look at it: You're getting a £430 subsidy on the phone, paid off over 2 years. Think of it as free credit in return for your loyalty.

In your case, after subtracting the value of the subsidy, you're left with ~£13.10/month for the phone service. Since these plans offer lots (or unlimited) minutes, and lots of data, unless you're a very light user they're probably better value than anything you can get without a contract.

There's one potential downside to look out for: as featured on "Watchdog" tonight, recently some mobile operators in the UK have been pulling shenanigans where they've been using fine print clauses in the contract to unilaterally increase the monthly cost. 3 and Vodafone have been guilty of this. Apparently Ofcom are investigating this practice.

yeah, if I do the sums on my Orange contract.

24 months @ £36 a month, plus £269 for the cost of the phone, then subtract the £699 I would have paid outright, it works out at £18.50 a month for unlimited calls and texts and 1GB of data.

I was paying more to 3 for the One plan (£20 a month), but I had unlimited data with them. saying that, it's rare I use over 500MB each month.

Updates:

Guys, just got an e-mail from Apple but not for me, its for a friends name.

The pick up time was 4-5pm changed it to 7-8pm
will keep you posted....

Manchester?

Phone them first thing and ask them to confirm all the details over the phone.

I managed 32GB white last week at Braehead - sim free - Buchanan St and Braehead were my choices too. Keep trying! Took me about 10 days.

When my reservation came through on the second attempt the email did not come through until 11.54pm that night. Put my reservation request in at 3.30pm that day as well so I don't think it relates to how early you do it.

Nothing,,, it's a diesel :p

But since you asked, and I did wonder myself, I consulted one of my favourite apps - Road Trip.

Based on 2+ years of data, my 1.8 focus diesel costs me 11.6p per mile on average. The mileage is actually 137 miles each way, so the total cost will be roughly £32 for the return trip.

Not ideal, but not too bad either.

Ugh why the late pickup time, do you have to be sneaked in and out of the shop incase casual passers by get angry?!

i ordered online 32GB black, can i tell them to give me the white version instead without having to the store?

maybe an e-mail will do.

I'm not sure what Apple do, but almost certainly they don't discard multiple applications from the same IP address.

People at work, people in public access areas often all share one public IP to the Internet, to disregard people because of duplicate IP addresses would prohibit many from being able to apply at all.

Perhaps they disregard based on multiple entries from one phone number (why do they need your number after all, they don't text or phone you).

So.. who here received their black/slate iPhone now thinking of exchanging for white/silver?

I keep playing with the idea. My previous iPhone was black so I was planning to switch it up this tme, but then the black slate looked really cool in pictures...now a couple of days in, I'm not that wowed...don't get me wrong, it IS nice a phone though, and I probably will end up keeping it.

The return window is 14 days right?

They might not have stock to change your unit.
Also had a black 4, stolen with such great timing. Getting a white this time.
So I went to the Apple store and told them I had to cancel my reservation cause of incorrect data, asked if I still can get the phone since it is in stock. No

There was a 3G assisted wifi option in the beta of iOS 6, where a poor wifi signal was assisted by your 3G. The feature is now gone in the released version of iOS6, but I'm now wondering if it is still there and it's just the switch to disable it that's missing. With the issues people are reporting of slow/poor wifi, I wonder if the phone is falling back to 3G data when this happens?
