There are no walk ins available, and no sign that demand is dropping enough to see it happening any time soon, even the nightly reserve system still seems to be quite hit and miss.

Ordered mine from Apple on the 1st October, expected delivery is still showing 24th - 30th. really hoping for a nice surprise its coming sooner email though

Any successful reservations tonight?

Yes. 3rd attempt and 1st attempt where I only made a single reservation. 2 attempts prior to that I'd made multiple reservations across 2-3 different stores.

Whether its just coincidence or not, I don't know.

Pick up between 1230-1330 at Milton Keynes. Went for 32Gb black.

U r so lucky!

i have tried to reserve one for 2 weeks, but still nothing. very frustrated, maybe i should choose samsung

1st post,
Feeling extremely lucky today, just managed to reserve a 32Gb Black in Southamton. (After only 3 attempts!)

I had 8 different email's setup on the same IP, so they don't restrict it. (However the email I reserved was the first one I attempted to reserve on, if that makes sense...)

Good luck to the rest of you!

Dumb question but looking at the reserve and pick-up site it says

For all carriers, you must bring the following:

Driving licence or passport
Recent utility bill
Bank statement or building society statement

Does that mean you need to bring all of them?

I don't have any utility bills in my name, will this be an issue?

is the black one easier to get than the white one? 10 attempts for a 32Gb white, but nothing.

I queried that before launch day with my local Apple store, they said it was badly written and not needed for sim free (contract requirement), for reservations they might ask for photo ID but that was all.

Apple are very equal opportunity in this regard, both are in very short supply.

Thanks, seemed overly excessive.

I placed my reservation at about 4pm, got my reservation email for a 16gb black one (on contract) at 9pm for the Trafford Centre. This was my first time trying.

Supply picking up, or just very lucky? I feel really bad as my flatmate has been trying with reservations for the past 3 weeks. Especially considering he actually had it in his hand at the Orange store but they took it off him as he is Norwegian so couldn't pass a UK credit check (even though they actually said he didn't need to pass a UK specific one).

Either way, so happy I managed to get it. Hopefully other people had luck with it too.

Ugh why the late pickup time, do you have to be sneaked in and out of the shop incase casual passers by get angry?!
lol

I had to change time to btn 7-8

it was at Lakeside

the store was fairly empty and few were just pickups

I suggest people should just reserve with multiple e-mails/friends names

I'm glad this thing is over.

----------

How did you change the pick up time please ?

----------

My 12th attempt at reserving one today.

Here's hoping.

once you get confirmation, you can click an option to change pick up time on a link from your e-mail

I now feel duty bound to complain :D

the problem we have no one to complain to.

Went for 32gb black and white at MK and no joy. Enjoy yours!

There's only so many days over the next few weeks i'll make it into the office and therefore an apple store visit.
Either that or i capitulate over that t mob contract and pick one up sooner....

I was on holiday for 2 weeks after the Friday it was released. I was kind of glad to miss the first rush but stocks were still short when I tried at the weekend. I decided to go with 3. The prices aren't to bad, all-you-can-eat data and free tethering plus I can get 3G coverage in the local rural small town I live which no other network offers. 3 also seems to have current partnerships with Orange and T-Mobile so I am sure they will also get with EE soon as well.

Anyway, I ordered one which was expected to be in stock by 30th Oct but they ended up ringing me on Wednesday saying the 32GB White was here. The 64GB White wasn't but I could take away a 64GB black today so I took up the offer and here I am.

First impressions are good. Definitely quicker, lighter and nicer than my old iPhone 4. The only niggling problem I am having is this Wi-Fi issue which only seems to be affecting my iPhone 5 and not my wife. My iPhone 4, iPad 3, MacBook Pro and work laptop all work fine so it is obviously an iPhone 5 issue. I have eventually got all my apps downloaded but it has been a long and tedious process. At the moment I am just having to use 3G which works great. Hopefully Apple releases an update soon.

Another week has passed with no luck getting hold of a SIM free black 32gb (am not around this weekend so no point trying tonight).

The more time that passes the more I think I might as well just hold off for longer anyway, there seem to be enough teething problems (particularly with wifi issues) to make me think that leaving it a bit longer might be no bad thing.

I'm still very happy with my 4s, I'm only really upgrading so that my wife can upgrade her 3GS to my 4s (her phone feels pretty old and slow now). If it were just me I would definitely be waiting until my contract ends in March before even thinking of changing my phone. I've spent a fair bit of time playing with the 5 in my local Apple store and although it is a nice enough product nothing about it screams "must have now".

So far though this has been a pretty irritating experience. To do a full commercial launch of a mass market product but with such inadequate stock is pretty poor show from Apple. The slow down of production from the annoyingly-dubbed "scuff gate" really can't have helped. I wonder how long it will be before people can just walk into a shop and buy one (you know, inthe way that people usually expect to be able to buy things!).

How did you propose they do it? Wait until they had built up stock and need to store it somewhere securely with no leaks? Or increase capacity in the factory, knowing that after the initial rush is over, you'll have wasted money paying for tools and machines that you don't use all the time?

Both have financial cost implications, which need to be weighed up against potential lost sales from people not prepared to wait.

I agree, the quality control on the aluminium is not helping in this instance, something which should probably have been foreseen and mitigated against.
