O2 are frustrating.

So I ordered my phone on Wednesday and it came on Friday. I then phoned O2 so that they could move my number over to my new nano sim card and they said it would take up to 24 hours, though from doing this before I know it usually takes an hour or so. Anyway, the day went on and it didn't move over but my old sim still worked in my old phone so I wasn't too fussed as I could still contact people. I then woke up this morning and neither of the sims worked. I waited and waited but my new sim never activated, so I phoned them up again and they said it'd take up to another 24 hours.

It's been 34 hours since I received my iPhone and I still haven't been able to use it properly. I wouldn't be too fussed if my old sim hadn't deactivated, but I've been kept out of contact with my friends all day which has been an inconvenience.

Sounds like O2 haven't changed much since I last used them.

My only advice, find the name of the CEO, (I think it's Ronan Dunne), email him, the address format is first name.lastname at O2.com. He has a resolution team attached to his office staffed by what seems to be the only intelligent CS agents at O2.

I was an O2 customer for years but fell out with them during the 4S release. I can't remember the exact details now, but cut a long story short they took some underhand and sneaky tactics a day or two before the 4S released and changed their early upgrade eligibility terms which narked off a lot of people who had been eligible for the upgrade under their old terms. The new terms meant you paid a lot more to upgrade. They did this knowing they could make a substantial amount of money, as every iPhone release generates a lot of interest.

Really despise them now.

As far as i understand it 02 had an outage a couple of days ago which has put everything back, and they are still chasing their tails to resolve most things.

I performed a sim swap in the apple store yesterday at 5pm and at present my ip5 is still showing no service, and my 4s is still working this morning.

On balance a few months ago i did the same thing as my iphone 4 was stolen so did a sim swap to a new micro sim for my ip4s and it took a couple of hours, plus a few teething issues on turning on some parts of my service as 02 had blocked my account to protect it from the theif trying to use it !

All in all i've been happy with 02 regarding the service where i work and reside.

because my iphone 5 is sim free and unlocked i may be tempted in the future by ee regarding let if the data charges are good and network coverage is solid and lte does not suck the life out of my battery !

lets hope we both get sorted soon.

Unlimited data on the £10 bag is being replaced with 1GB of data, however it will now be possible to tether other devices to your iPhone when using this plan. Unlimited data will live on in a new £12 bag, however you won't be able to use that for tethering.

Unless one jailbreaks and uses a tether tweak !

Just done todays reservation, 64gb white, MK. I'm only on about my fourth so plenty of time to catch up..!

Comments about 3 are making me have a rethink, although i know their reception at work is bad as we're right in a hole on their map...

Thats the 1st time i've seen someone be able to make a reservation on a Sunday.

Wonder if stock is catching up a little with demand.

I'm only a SIM only plan with Orange (£15.50 a month, 1.5GB of data, 600 minutes and unlimited texts). I'm buying the iPhone 5 unlocked.

I'm unsure whether I'll be able to use EE's 4G network with my current plan. I'm in one of the cities advertised with coverage, and I'm assuming the nano sim card Orange have sent me will be LTE enabled?

You will only be able to use 4G if you move over to a new deal with EE, not with Orange. The new SIM card you are getting will not have 4G/LTE enabled - none of the Orange or T-Mobile SIM cards will have it enabled.

Nothing on pay as you go with them either. Only rolling contracts etc :(

The opinion i'm getting from reading this thread is that most people are impressed with the service they are receiving from 3.

I'm still a little sceptical about them and their coverage for some reason. Their pricing is definitely the best if looking for a contract phone.

Can anyone else give their opinions on them for the iPhone 5, especially those who have moved from another network over to them. I'm just thinking in terms of reception and data coverage.

I've been a 3 customer for years and it all depends on where you are. If you're in the right area, their data speeds are fast:

photo-2.PNG

Unfortunately, I'm afraid I may need to switch from 3 to another provider due to signal issues (read below).

I use 3 right across the North of England up to the Borders, and find coverage excellent, I've only had to deal with CS twice in 2 years, once for a number port and one technical problem and both were dealt with efficiently.

Can't fault them or the network infrastructure, I get a strong, fast 3G signal in some very rural locations where other networks don't have any 3G signal at all (like o2).

3 are awesome in the North. I consistently get very good data speeds and a solid 4-5 bars of signal everywhere I go.

I'm having to switch from them though. In the midlands, 3 is not so good. For example, I'm sitting here in a rented apartment near a window and I'm getting no service. I'm lucky to get one bar when I'm inside and I consistently get no service in libraries, supermarkets, restaurants, my own apartment, hospital wards, lecture theatres (not that I should be using my phone here anyway :p) and generally just places where you would expect to get signal (for example, the signal randomly drops from 1-2 bars to no service whenever I enter the car park for the university halls where my friend lives).

The 3G network is also a little spotty jumping wildly from 10-15mbps to below 0.5mbps from time to time. Speeds have been below 5-6 much more often than they have been above that comfortable threshold.

I've really enjoyed my time with 3 - can't fault them really - and if the signal is good in your area (in the North it is excellent) you will get awesome prices and a very fast 3G network at all times.

Seeing as I'm in the midlands for the most part of the year I'm considering switching to either EE or O2 (despite their network issues recently, they have been solid for my friends where I currently am. Their 3G network isn't as fast as 3 yet but it seems to be consistent).

Anyone got any suggestions for me? I need 600+ minutes, unlimited texts and I should be comfortable on 1GB data with a £20/month max limit. O2s on and on for £20 is looking the best right now.

T-Mobile will do you unlimited minutes, unlimited texts, unlimited data for £21 a month sim only.

Thanks. Looks like a good deal and I did consider that one but I've heard/seen that the 3G speeds where I am aren't as consistent or as fast as O2 which is the only thing that is holding me back.

Having said that, in recent times, O2s network has been patchy (recent outage and also back in July). Haven't heard anything in the news about T-Mobile so I assume everything's been ok with them.

I'll ask a couple of friends and compare the two networks but I think it will either be the plan you suggested or O2s £20/month one. Although the unlimited data would be nice.

On a side note - Does anyone know how much data maps uses in the UK? I've found this:

http://www.techradar.com/news/softw...ps-uses-80-less-data-than-google-maps-1101501

That's quite a lot less data than google maps. Are the maps used already pre-downloaded? How much data do you guys think I will use for two long trips per month (260 miles round trip x2) and 4-5 short town journeys per week (around 16-20 per month)?

I would test it myself but my cars in for repairs at the moment and I'm just curious based on that article I've read. Although, if I went with T-Mobiles unlimited data, this wouldn't be a problem.

Hmm... decisions, decisions...

I'm on the £21 t mobile sim. Shows up as EE on the iphone so no one knows you're a cheapskate haha.

Not sure on speeds as I haven't checked, but I can stream spotify consistantly with no issue.

Does anyone know if the lightning-30 pin adaptors are in apple retail yet?

On their website, it says tethering excluded, which makes unlimited data not so "unlimited" any more. 3 still allows you to tether on unlimited data.

Yup tethering was removed in august I think (for new customers).

However currently the setting is still enabled for me, and I only signed up last week. Whether its against the ts and cs I don't know, but I'd use it in an emergency.

okay so..;; i was fed up waiting for sim free every single day trying to reserve
and i wanted a better tarrif than im on at o2 .. who have been pissing me off for over 2 years now, terrible customer service, having spent more than £6000 in the last 11 years,,

so i called up 3 this afternoon, sorted a contract for the iphone 5 32GB black unlimted data plan with tethering included for my macbook pro retina when im out and about... only paid 89 up front and its coming on tuesday!

they have an app already loaded onto the phone, for all needs and over all i think im going to be much happy than when with o2, im not fussed about 4g if im going to be getting 15mb/s + which is three times the speed im getting on my home broadband,... f'o2 .. : ) no mo'monies from me

Yeah that's what I thought.

I'll wait to get 4G enabled once likes of O2/Vodafone bring out their 4G network and prices come down.

She's called the Confirm Hero. She's pretty and all, but I'm getting sick of the sight of her.

Why do I have to go through this whole reservation process every day? Surely I should be able to make a reservation just once, and then wait until Apple emails to say they can fulfil it?

So on Friday at about 8.30pm I received my confirmation email that I could pick up a black iPhone 5 32GB from Covent Garden, I've reserved faithfully everyday for the past 2 weeks (when it was open, of course).

I asked the Apple lady that was setting my iPhone up about the reservations. She said the following:

You can make a maximum of 5 reservations per day (it doesn't matter which store, etc.) The system picks up on any matching data, whether that's email address, name, telephone number. If there are 5 matches with any of those it will cap it at that and will not validate any more of your reservations.

I hope that helps anyone that's been frantically reserving.

I also asked about the scratching and obviously she has to be careful with what she says but there have been a lot of customers checking before buying and mine supposedly was one of the better models (there's no scratching at all), so do keep an eye out when you purchase it.

Yeah that's what I thought.

I'll wait to get 4G enabled once likes of O2/Vodafone bring out their 4G network and prices come down.

You do realise that's around a year away? Or longer?

The LTE spectrum auction will only take place next year, and Vodafone and O2 can't start building a network until they know what frequencies they have won. Also, if they overpay for the prized 800 MHz spectrum (all the networks want the 800MHz band), odds of them bringing the price down anytime soon is pretty remote.

Not without jail breaking as Apple does not recognise them as a iPhone certified network provider.
