The thing is, I will be visiting London from 18th till the 23rd (22nd practically, as I will leave on the 23rd early morning), and am shipping the phone to my friend's current residence in London as I am from Malta and the iPhone is not released here yet!

Do you know if they attempt delivery and no one is at home, whether it is possible to pick it up myself? Also, do you know at what time do they usually deliver?

Once shipped, They will give you a tracking number so you can track where your item is and also it will confirm if it is out for delivery.

I have had my items shipped by UPS in the past, but i also know Apple use UK Mail so not sure who will be delivering yours. I beleive if UPS attempt to deliver they will either come again same day at a later time or next day. UPS also have a base where you can call up and pick up your item but ID is required.

Uk Mail Ive never had a shipement so im unsure, but they will usually leave a card to say no one was home and you may need to call them up for redelivery.

in terms of time they deliver. its normally between 7:30am till 6/8pm I beleive.

Thanks for the info. I guess it will be a close call!

I've been trying to reserve an iPhone at the Solihull and Birmingham stores for a couple of weeks.
I've tried again today for tomorrow however I've just had a large job come through for tomorrow that I can't cancel.
If I am successful do you think that there would be a chance of me rescheduling to collect it Wednesday instead?

The e mail i got for mine only held it for the next day.

The only option of changing was the actual collection time.

Definitely only for the next day, and unfortunately use it or lose it.

Isn't there anybody you could send with your card to pay for it? Someone who might be able to pass for you.

The e mail told me to take photo i.d

When i got there it was that busy i wasn't even asked for the e mail print out.
I was paying by debit card and my full name was on it.

I have read of others though being fully i.d verified before being able to buy it even when on sim only !

are the orders from apple estimated shipping times from the time of order very accurate, or have some been arriving earlier than the initial expected date?

That's understandable, any sort of contract (even sim only) will entail a credit check and the accompanying proof of ID and address.

I think as long as you pay with a card in the same name as the reservation for sim free from Apple it should satisfy most Apple staff.

Yes, I know you have to sign a new contract, it's just whether you can move the duration of the old one over or start 24 months all over again. I could see the latter being very unpopular but not entirely unlikely.

By definition a new contract means starting over. This is clearly stated in the link I provided. They will not let you continue where you left off with your old contract. It's not going to happen.

Certainly the lawyer interpretation is that you start a new 18/24 month contract from scratch and they'd be expecting most people to buy a new phone and new contract anyway. However any sort of verbal promises made by staff would over-ride this and with the confusion and uncertainty over the situation when the iPhone 5 released I wouldn't be surprised if some staff told people they can just carry their contract over on EE so they might have to let customers do that anyway

I mis typed and meant to say sim free

I think that only my dear old mother will be free in the day time. Nevermind, if my luck is the same tonight as it has been the past two weeks I won't get an email!

More likely it'll come through when you can't pick it up!

I've gone for MK and also added Birmingham today but things changed during the day and i may well struggle to get up there and back, so i'm expecting birmingham to come through with my luck!

I've been trying the Bullring store for a while to get a black sim free 32GB. Best of luck let me know if you get an email.

Nothing here :(

Tried:

Basingstoke, Festival Place
Bath, SouthGate
Bristol, Cabot Circus
Bristol, Cribbs Causeway
Reading, The Oracle

... all for a 32GB Black.

Believe me they aint as bad as O2. I have a business contract with them, or shall I say I do until I swap in the next few days.
Since pre-order I have probably spend four hours on hold collectively, ordered 6 hand sets on launch day by the end, yes SIX handsets to be told they had the white ones in stock to be followed by the black "in a few days"
Told the three white 32gig unit will be dispatched Monday to me Tuesday.
Called Monday to double check that things were getting dispatched, "yes three white unit are down for dispatch today, delivery on Tuesday"

Muggins here ended up sitting in the my office all day (staff were out selling to help pay for the phone) waiting on Mr. Yodel to turn up. Mr. Yodel shows his face at the usual time, but ZERO phones. Back on the phone to O2 Business, 40 mins on hold as per usual. This is the answer I got. " Sorry Sir I can't understand why you was told we have or had stock. We haven't had any stock since we ran out of them Saturday morning the day after pre-orders started. We won't be seeing any stock for at least 3 week but could be as long as 6 weeks!"

This is what is called sharp practices. It's also one of the oldest tricks in the books, you can't ******** a sales rep which is why I can see through this type of crap. They make you think they have a product only to be told you was miss-informed. They then hope that you don't cancel your orders.

Well I did. I have been with O2 for several years and have seen their customer service go to ****. You think you have it bad as a normal consumer, but when your spending thousands of pound per year with a company you'd expect better service wouldn't you.

Honest I wish I could just walk into any shop and sort this out too, but most of the high street shops won't deal with business users.....I'm glad I don't run my business like these idiots.

After all the problems above T-Mobile managed to make a mess of things too.

Two phone order both 32gig one white one black. Never received a text saying when the white one would be delivered but turned up 10 days after the initial order, to the wrong address, in Birmingham, I'm in Leeds. Address corrected by courier, turned up the following day via Royal Mail which was left at a neighbours unit!

I changed my black order to a 64gig last Monday while complaining about the above cockup as they have stock of them now, apparently. Stated it would be out the following day. Several calls later I've finally got a delivery text with a date of tomorrow.

Moral of all this BS is. They all piss in the same pot, they all offer terrible customer service. It's the last time I buy a phone with a contract. The only plus side is at least T-Mobile don't have long queuing at their call centres.

Reading this thread after securing my reservation on first attempt (contract though) really makes me feel rather lucky. Feel for all you guys, been in a similar situation whilst waiting for the Macbook Pro Retina and have a flat mate who has been waiting since release to get his.

Hopefully the demand can start to pick up soon.

After around 5 attempts I managed to reserve a 32GB Black for collection at Apple Trafford Centre tomorrow.

As this seems to be a popular choice perhaps supply is slowly catching up with demand.

I hope those still trying manage to get their phones soon.

I tried for the same from the Trafford centre but nothing for me.

Seems that the black 32GB is by far the most popular.

Still holding back from ordering...

Hey everyone... been holding back from ordering due to the problems people are having such as scratches and camera issues.

Overall have things improved? I'll be getting the black 16gb model and i'm coming from an iPhone 4 which i'm giving to my mum.

Any other issues?

Thank you.
Richard.
