Hey everyone... been holding back from ordering due to the problems people are having such as scratches and camera issues.

Overall have things improved? I'll be getting the black 16gb model and i'm coming from an iPhone 4 which i'm giving to my mum.

Any other issues?

Thank you.
Richard.

Apparently they have tightened the QA which slowed things down a little. My wife 32gig arrived 10 days ago and that was perfect, my 64 black to so I am expecting the same really. I still think thre was an initial batch which had problems with marks.

As far as the camera, what problems ? The purple halo thing would take a redesign, plus it present in the 4s too :)

I too are jumping from the 4 to the 5 and looking forward to it. Nearly two and a half year with the same phone regardless of the moaners the 5 is a big bump from the original 4.

Yes I know the camera thing well most cameras will do that halo thing when held at sunlight so why do people take pictures of the sun!

When you do a comparison of the phones on the apple website the battery life isnt much different to the 4 really. There isnt much else different between the 4s and the 5. Apart from facetime camera. The main camera is the same spec. Granted its a bigger screen and cosmetically it looks mint. But I have to weigh up if its worth parting with so much money when I am going to have to buy new docks unless I want to spend £25 on a converter which will make everything look ugly!

With the dock thing you'll have to make the plunge at some point. My wifes battery in just about up to speed now, only charged three time so far and last usage was over 6 hours so it's about the same as the old 4.

I'm personally wanting the swap for the speed difference, which is huge, and the camera.

32GB is popular this time round I would imagine because whereas you may have initially wanted a 16GB, for another £70 you can have 16GB more.

Whereas last year, the difference between 16GB and 32GB 4S was £100. Lot harder to swallow.

How long has it taken for peoples orders to arrive once it goes to Preparing/shipped?

I ordered two phones, a 30pin adapter and a lightning cable on Sept 17th, I have a delivery estimate of Oct 15th-19th but it still shows as Processing!

Do I have a hope in hell of my phones arriving this week?

Only if there is stock of the adapters now, Apple will hold your whole order back if any one item is OOS.

Thanks. I believe that's why it's taken so long anyway. It was 2-3 week ETA when I ordered, but then showed as 3-4 weeks.
My Delivery window was only added to the Account page last week so I assume I've been allocated an adapter.

Once they ship, is it next day delivery?

My phone is delivered 12 Oct, 2012 - 18 Oct, 2012 and has just gone to preparing for shipment... so hopefully it should be here within the allotted time .

Wow...

I appear to have had some good luck...

Yesterday, I went to the upgrade section of MyO2 and placed an order for a black 32GB iPhone 5. Site said 3-4 weeks for delivery.

This was at ~4pm yesterday.

To my surprise, I got a tracking number by 5.30pm. The phone arrived at work this morning at 8am.

So that's just 16 hours. Superb! Plus, the phone is scuff-free (for the moment!), screen's perfect and WiFi reception's just fine.

I'm seriously never that lucky...

Congrats!
I think in general there's a lot more availability for contract phones than SIM free.
Put my reservations for MK in for today, I think a few more days for me then I'll order online (I need to time it to avoid any chance of it being delivered when I'm away...)

Just out of interest, do O2 do subsidised upgrades with iPhones now? When I was with them before they wouldn't upgrade my 3G I just had to take out a new contract for the iPhone 4 at the same price as a new customer

Nobody does, even if you've been with a network for 10+ years. This is because normally the networks will get a discount on certain handsets if they order a lot, this then gives them wiggle room to offer discounts by passing on some of the discount they received. However Apple don't give the networks a discount so they have no wiggle room to offer a discount to customers regardless of how loyal they have been

is it just me, or are fewer and fewer posts coming each day with people who've got the emails. I think the situation might be getting worse not better..:(

(Yeah, I know 9 is the official cut-off point, but over the last couple of weeks it's seemed like 7:30 - 8:30 is 'peak period'. Not holding out much hope for tonight now..)
