Not checked this thread in a while, been busy. How have reservations been going? Have we seen an increased frequency of successful reservations or still very hit & miss? I've put in my application for sim free 16GB black for the first time in a while, seems to have been unsuccessful again.

Place as much reservations as you can and you will increase you chance to "win" a reservation. Usually for entry to lottery you should pay, this is a FREE lottery from Apple :)
My experience has been confirmed by other lucky members of avforums

Another unsuccessful day for reservations. Really am unsure why I'm still bothering. Is it the sim-free phones that are the issue or do Apple simply not give a damn about their UK market?

Not even sure I want the new phone, but having spent two hours today recovering my phone from it's bricked state as a result of Twitter installation crashing, I feel that Imight have better luck with an iPhone 5. I wonder how many others have simply given up because of the supply problems?

Apple now have a fixed quota of stocks they are pre-pared to sell sim-free, unfortunately the percentage of stock allocated to sim-free is far smaller than the percentage of people wanting sim-free versus contract. This is a policy that has been introduced by the new head of Apple stores, a former Dixons boss and we all know how great Dixons in their various guises have been! This policy is so they can double dip, they make a very nice profit on the handset and also make a nice commission from the network selling a contract. The policy sucks big time and is creating artificial shortage of sim-free phones as they are identical to the contract ones which they usually have stock of. But you don't find yourself having more cash in hand than the US government (which actually happened at one point!) by not maximising profits.

Am I correct in thinking that my sim free iPhone 5 from the Uk Apple Store in Meadowhall will not lock out to the first sim I use in it like the models from CPW do ?

I also thought the sim free and contract handsets were different as to where a contract model would only take that particular network sim it was sold with.

Sm free from the apple store are truly unlocked and you can put say a t mobile sim in it, take it out,put a voda sim in, and both will work etc etc.

CPW, according to some here were effectively selling contract phones as sim free, because all iPhones are unlocked at first, but handsets listed as contract lock to the first network sim you put in them.

So yeah, apple meadowhall sell proper sim only devices.

Thanks for the clarification.

One question. I am in Greece right now so I am making the reservation from here and a friend of mine will go for the pick-up. You know if their system only accepts UK IP's?

Can I put more than one separate reservation in for a single store?

Can I put more than one reservation at several stores?

How long is the wait? Have I got more of a chance if I choose the 32GB over the 16?

Seems ridiculous that a month after launch there are still delays!

tried to reserve for more than 3 weeks, but got nothing. i finally ordered a white 32G iphone 5 online and have to wait for 4 weeks.

No just one reservation per store, you can try and put in reservation in more than one store however there are conflicting reports/theories about whether this improves or harms your chances. As for how long a wait that is totally unknown as it all depends on how many of their stock gets allocated for sim-free sales and not on actual overall stock levels (there is usually stock just not made available for sim-free sales). 16 and 32 are both popular, especially as there is now a smaller price difference between them. 64Gb in white is the least popular model

For those with a business I can confirm that you can shortcut the reservation system by calling your local Apple store and selecting the business team option.
However unfortunately the store i called simply had no 32GB Sim free black but did offer to hold a white 32 or a black 64 if i wanted for collection on that day.
I was tempted to go for the black 64gb but I will wait until Monday where they will keep a black 32gb aside for me as they expect a delivery.
I gave my business name however i've never spoke to the business team in the store before so I'm not known to them.

Still got 2 weeks left to wait. First time ordering a SIM free iPhone, wish it wasn't talking so long!

I was after the white 64 all the time and only one semi-successful reservation. Still trying

I ordered a iphone5 in the apple online store. however, i have a problem. i am living in the university's accommodation, and mail usually received by the Administrator of the accommodation. the courier can not enter my accommodation without a key. therefore, i wanna know whether the courier would contact with me before he/she deliver my iphone.

is there anyone who has received a iphone know that? thank you!

No, they would not contact you. The only thing they'll tell you is the expected day and possibly a time frame for the delivery. If there is a time frame, you could just hang around your administrator's room/office during it.

Does anyone know if network stores (i.e. Three) and Carphone Warehouse/Phones4U have handset only stock for sale? Sick of the delays with Apple stores for one, just wondering if these places are different.
