I would be grateful if somebody could answer this question about 3 UK plans.

They have an "Ultimate Internet SIM 600 1 month" plan with all-you-can-eat data. Regardless of its fancy name, how do you pay for "1 month" plan? Do you need a UK based bank account? Or can I pay by cash every month? I only have an italian card at the moment... :(

Sorry, you'll need a UK bank account that allows direct debits and you will also need to pass a credit check (I.e. be a full UK resident)

I was following this thread a couple of weeks ago and jumped on the carphone warehouse tip before i realised about the locked business. I ordered online and got my black 64gb within 3 days, was very happy indeed!
Not so happy when I realised it would lock to Voda as I am moving back to Oz at the end of the year and will need to change the sim.
Luckily I phoned voda and it was very easy to unlock it without any charge - so i would recommend that those of you who are still waiting and avoiding carphone warehouse because of this issue may want to reconsider.

However I now have another issue. I thought I was going to get the VAT back when we went overseas last week, but I didn't realise the UK duty free scheme is very different to Oz. Customs said that online sales don't count at all, and that I would have needed to get the actual customs form from the store when I purchased.

Is there anyone here who is about to buy in a store who wouldn't mind getting the form for me? I know its a bit of hassle and a bit of an ask but i would really appreciate it if anyone could!

Equally, if anyone would like to take my lovely 2 week old unlocked 64gb black phone off my hands because you're sick of the wait, I could now go into a CPW store to replace and do the paperwork myself..

thanks :)

Whats the 'carphone warehouse tip'? I'm not bothered about sim lock at all - are you saying they have stock to purchase?

I see, thank you for your reply.

So I guess my only choice is Pay as you Go plan, right? Are there any disadvantages of these compared to "ad-hoc" (whatever it means) iPhone contracts that Three has? Apart from explicit characteristics (lower amount of minutes etc).

For instance, they have "Pay As You Go - All-in-One £15" which gets you "3000 texts and 300 minutes plus all-you-can-eat data for just £15". Sounds very good actually, was wondering if there is a catch.

Not really other than the fact you have to pay upfront but Three right now doesn't actually do PAYG nano sims for the iPhone 5.

Wait, what? Why???

I'm gonna pick up my iPhone tomorrow, and I can't use Three because I don't have UK bank account?

This. I'm on Three PAYG. What happens in a couple of weeks when I get my SIM free? Do I have to go to O2, get scissors out...?

tried to reserve for more than 3 weeks, but got nothing. i finally ordered a white 32G iphone 5 online and have to wait for 4 weeks.

I wouldn't give up. It took me a couple of weeks to get a 32GB white SIM free reserved but finally managed it at Braehead in Glasgow.

I'm still waiting on my iPhone 5, however I'm pretty much all ready for it.

Orange/EE have just delivered my new nano SIM to replace my micro SIM. I can't activate it till my iPhone 5 arrives, and annoyingly, it can take up to 24 hours. So I may be unreachable for up to 24 hours.

One thing that I thought was trying to slice my micro SIM to nano size, saving me having to activate a new sim card. Has anyone had any success in doing this?

You'll be contract free, and able to hop onto another network any time you want if Three isn't up to coverage for you.

Is Three's unlimited data really unlimited? Or is it fair use and no more than 1.5GB's?

I believe they are doing payg nanos in store.

Okay so on Friday my iPhone arrives. On Saturday my wife is going into Birmingham.
I say "Go into 3 store off New Street and pick up a nano sim for me, I think they're free".

She goes into store but the assistant is totally unhelpful.
"I can't give you a nano sim. I need info from your husband"
"Like what?"
"Date of birth for example"
"For a free sim? I can give you that."
"No it needs to be him. He can phone and get one delivered"
"But I'm standing here with all the info, and it's a free sim"
"No can do"

So, basically, don't expect any help from 3. I'll be using GiffGaf or O2.

The only resistance i got from 02 was when i wanted a micro sim to fit into a 4s and was told i would need to top it up by £10 before i left the store. {payg}

When i said i could order one online and have it thro the post in 2-3 days without having to top up i didn't get much of a response.

I didn't want to top it up because the micro sim was for my old 4s that was going to my son.

I called Three a couple of weeks ago as I wanted a nano sim replacement for my current micro sim 30 day rolling plan. Took a few mins on the phone and the nano sim arrived the next day free of charge.

UPDATE regarding reservations in store

Just received two emails to separate mailboxes today for successful 16GB white iPhone reservations on the SAME NAME in one of Apple stores. I made reservation in all stores for 6 emails today which I mentioned above. It looks like only one store got 16GB White in stock for tomorrow. So, try as many shops as you can reach everyday!

Don't have that many options, that's why I am only trying one store. Didn't get an email. This is frustrating
