Okay so on Friday my iPhone arrives. On Saturday my wife is going into Birmingham.
I say "Go into 3 store off New Street and pick up a nano sim for me, I think they're free".

She goes into store but the assistant is totally unhelpful.
"I can't give you a nano sim. I need info from your husband"
"Like what?"
"Date of birth for example"
"For a free sim? I can give you that."
"No it needs to be him. He can phone and get one delivered"
"But I'm standing here with all the info, and it's a free sim"
"No can do"

So, basically, don't expect any help from 3. I'll be using GiffGaf or O2.

It's the law. The data protection act means your wife cannot act on your behalf. There are some pretty hefty fines for breaching it. How do they know your not an under cover officer trying to test them. You should be thankful they didn't make changes to your account just because a random woman who could have got your dob from Facebook asked them to.

UPDATE regarding reservations in store

Just received two emails to separate mailboxes today for successful 16GB white iPhone reservations on the SAME NAME in one of Apple stores. I made reservation in all stores for 6 emails today which I mentioned above. It looks like only one store got 16GB White in stock for tomorrow. So, try as many shops as you can reach everyday!

today is my fourth time to try 12 different Apple stores on the same day, but still nothing. so bad luck!

Looking to reserve a 64gb white this Thursday/Friday.

Have many people been having any luck with the 64gb's? I understand the 16 is probably the most popular.

He only wanted to pick up a free PAYG sim not a contract. That's nothing to do with data protection as that would only apply if she was wanting to modify/cancel/set up an account on his behalf. I know because I deal a lot with the data protection act in my job.

I was able to walk into a Vodafone shop just last week and pick up a new nano sim on behalf of someone and no info asked as its done when you ring up to activate on first time use - and even then they don't need date of birth!

Is anyone wanting a 32GB Black sim free iPhone who is able to collect from Touchwood Solihull?
I am expecting a call from the business staff there tomorrow who should have a phone available for me but my online order will be arriving Tuesday/Wednesday.

I would like one and have been reserving at bullring but none works so if this is up for grab, would be fantastic news! Would I have to pick it up? Thanks!

I could meet you there. To be honest I'm not sure how business sales are handled I'm guessing that they will take my business' details and then you can pay using your card and have the receipt sent to your email.
If you can spare £10 for the petrol and parking I'd be more than happy to help out.

Nah, no worries, it's fine! Thanks for helping anyways!

I had one reserved with wrong details approx 2 weeks ago, nothing since then. They just don't have enough sim-free phones. Is that new retail head such a genius?

Anyone on the 18-24th had updates? Mine still says processing and its the 22nd today.

If it doesnt change today then I dont understand how I will get the phone on Wedneday so the date has been pushed back.

I got 6/7 reservations I made 2/3 weeks ago for 64GBs so maybe try higher GB's

Can't get any higher, they were all for 64GB! There is some light at the end of the tunnel. Business dept at one store has come through shining, should be able to collect this afternoon. Fingers crossed.

It might be because 3 want to register the sims given out in shops?

By posting to an address, they are getting details that way.

As I said in the other thread where you posted the same message.

So you are going to stamp your foot and go to GiffGaff who:

Don't supply nano sims
Have no stores
Have no customer service

AND

you have to order the micro sim to be delivered by post as the only method to get one.

Sounds quite well thought out....

Why not just do the sensible thing, let your wife go in and get you one in her name, or just to a 3 shop yourself, most are open 7 days a week, or, like you will have to do with GiffGaff, get one delivered.
