ive given up with the apple store and bit the bullet with carphone warehouse, they have the 32gb space grey in stock so went with that. delivery tomorrow.

wanted the gold but not that fussed. i have been a 3 customer for years as has the wife so i dont mint the sim lock as she will get this as a hand me down next year anyway.

for info carphone warehouse is selling the same price as apple for the space grey. (obviously sim locked once you pop in a sim however)

You have no idea how business works.

Clearly Apple needs to ensure their customers (that's the likes of CPW & network operators) have plenty of stock to ship to customers. Apple relies on network providers & retail stores to push their products.

I've no idea if this is your first launch but the fact that they managed to sell 9,000,000 of these things last weekend (which shattered the previous record by the way) shows that there is nothing wrong with their supply chain. But the demand is high and they can only make so many.

The level of crying and feet stamping in this thread and on this forum is embarrassing. Apple set my delivery expectations within minutes of me ordering after midnight last Friday. They told me it will be with me on the 7th-11th October, that's fine by me. What would be unacceptable was if they didn't give me a date or promised a date that they couldn't meet.

They sold 9m because they released it worldwide.

Not everyone can sit in the queues you know. What happened to giving people a fair chance at ordering? And that was what Apple did with their old system. Not taking online orders was a big mistake . Those whole launch was rushed. I mean some of the stores didn't even have Gold or Silver at launch, which says it all.

Says 629 on the page but add it to your basket.. and price goes up to 679.

EDIT: my mistake, you guys were talking about the grey.. stand corrected! although thats pretty sneaky with the silver, right?

As I said... taking advantage.... shamelessly and blatantly.

Grey is the most available in apple stores so they charge the same...

Silver and Gold hard to get hold of.. they know that... hence the £50 price hike for that model. Should be ashamed !!

They say hey have it in stock, but they don't have a "buy" button, but a "pre order" button. Strange?

Think it will arrive tomorrow?

So if the orders change from "Proccessing" to "Preparing to Ship" today or tomorrow I am guessing delivery by the end of next week is already out of the question?
Not necessarily, because there may be a bulk shipment to a UK distribution centre without a status change. It may only change when they start sending them out from there, at which point delivery would be not long after. We don't know yet how it works this time round.

I expect mine to prepare for shipment today. If not, I will be complaining to Apple tonight. 7 Business Days Fri, Sat, Mon-Fri - If Apple try to tell me they don't work on a Saturday, I'm calling BS

Good luck with that - if they mean calendar days that's what they would have said.........

Covent Garden had a load this morning. Picked up a gold but gold has since run out. There may be other colours left. The scalpers were out in full force

Once again, MacRumors posters being the classiest politest community on the internet.

9 Mil sold doesn't equate to people with a phone in their hand. That figure will include our online orders (not received yet) as well as probably orders to retail (not necessarily in-stores on shelves or sold to customers yet).

That figure is also the 5C combined with the 5S. Hell, I could walk into any phone store or apple store in the UK and buy a 5C if I wanted one.

The level of crying and feet stamping in this thread and on this forum is embarrassing.

I ordered online. I am willing to wait. I'm not playing the retail game. But that said, The way they have dealt with online 00:01 orders directly via their website for the UK market has been way below my expectations for online ordering in todays market compared to other high demand products (console launches etc). To have NO stock at all pre-reserved or in country for the direct web-orders is pretty ******. Even if it sold out in 15-20 minutes at midnight and people had phones in their hand in 1-3 shipping days, it would have been a fairer way and better PR than to just lump all online orders into this limbo.

Be prepared to be disappointed. When they say business days they mean Mon-Fri.
Surely it doesn't take too much to figure out that if they meant 7-10 days they would say that. The fact that Apple or Foxconn work seven days a week does not alter the fact that business days in this sense has always meant Mon-Fri.

I don't see why people are annoyed.

We were quoted 7-10 business days and it hasn't even been 6 yet.

If it hasn't dispatched by Thursday next week then maybe people will have a reason to be annoyed.

You are not in limbo. They set your expectations with a delivery date.

I too would have preferred to have received my order earlier, but at least they have given me a delivery date which is all you can ask for.

You have no idea how many of those 9 million were orders on the Apple website, which have not been shipped yet. Making any judgement about the supply chain without that rather important information is not possible.

The 9m figure EXCLUDES orders placed on the website but not yet shipped. The way Apple counts a sale is actual phone leaving a store/being delivered.

So they have sold way more than 9m.

The delivery estimate was actually 7th-10th Oct but other than that I agree completely.

Do you have a link for that? Because I read somewhere an analyst claiming that the real figure was 5.5 million shipped and 3.5 million backordered.

Just to keep you all up to date; we ordered 2 iPhone 5S' (Silver 16GB and 32GB) on Friday 20th (launch day), UK Mail have just sent out a text message telling us of a delivery tomorrow morning of the 16GB handset, so we're half way there, just waiting on the other model (32GB) to be sent out.

Edit: ordered with EE over the phone.

who did you order with?

That was announced at 00:01 to a fan-base that had stayed up to order them. Sure you don't have to buy, you could have tried a store instead. It's a matter of perception, but in my opinion having absolutely 0% of UK direct online orders going out, not even an initial trickle compared to stores re-stocking and carphone warehouse charing premiums for sim-free phones makes for a pretty bad taste in a consumers mouth.
