I know. The 'plan' would be to take out a 30 day sim at the non-offer price and cancel it straight away so it doesn't roll over. Don't transfer your number yet etc. You'll still get the service for the 30 days then it will die.

This gives you an 'operational' sim that you can experiment with in the real world to see if you like it in the places that you frequent. This would only take a few days. If it's all good, then you still have time to sign up for the 12 month offer, transfer your number onto the 12 month sim etc.

Until they offer PAYG, that's the only way I can think of to test out their network and not be tied into a long contract.

EDIT- oh, it's only for 3G?! Sorrrrryyyyy!!!!!

EDIT NUMBER 2- it is 4G. Not Sorry!

It's 4G that's on offer. They call it sim only but it's definitely a 4G sim/service.
The two on the left marked as 4GEE include the cost of subsidised handsets, that's why they're different.

Ok, I've spoken to EE and they said:

The 12 month sim only, is exactly that: SIM ONLY.
The other tariffs are with Phone deals

If your area is not covered by 4G, you will automatically be reverted to 3G until EE extend coverage, at no extra cost.

The 12 month sim is £xx.xx per month contracted.

So, but sim only phone from Apple, insert EE sim, call EE with PAC number and it is ported over within 24 hours. Apparently, PAC codes are only given when the "contract" is terminated. So you should only really call once the phone is in your hands.

Boom!

Edit in response to declandio's edit. Correct! EE "only deal with 4G but we provide 3G to areas not yet covered"

But now it's Applecare Plus for £70. Must be purchased within 30 days of buying the phone. Includes 2 accidental damages at £55 excess fee. Definitely worth buying. (unless you have other warranty which covers phones)

Good find man. things brings a 64gb version in at under the £700 mental pain barrier in my head. £709 is ridiculous. £699 would have made no difference to their profits and doesn't sound quite so harsh when you say it out loud! £687.73 is still hefty but it's heading in the right direction compared to 709!

Haha, yep. I'm not sure wether to get the 32Gb instead of 64GB. It's insane how much Apple are charging for this tiny amount of space, but that's their market/business strategy. I wonder is carriers charge so much because they know iPhone customer will pay it? (since Apple is so expensive apparently)

Aye. First world problems, eh?

I'm forever having to reclaim space so would love to jump from 32 to 64gb.

For some reason I'm am ok with letting Apple screw (see cost of 64gb comment above!) me but the mobile operators are a different story!

I guess it's a pleasure thing. The networks don't give you pleasure, more often than not!

Since the deal is for SIM ONLY... But there is another EE cash back offer for "purchases"...

Also note, £5 extra gets you 3GB data instead of 1GB, so with £48 cashback you end up paying:

12months*£16 = £192 - £48 = £144 for 12 months 1GB data.
12months*£21 = £252 - £48 = £204 for 12 months 3GB data.
£204 - £144 = £60 extra for 2GB extra data per month.

I'm currently on a 12 month SIM only 4G contract with EE on my iPhone 5 which ends on November 22nd this year. I'm wondering if I can buy out the rest of my contract and then sign up for the new 12 month SIM only 5GB data 4G plan which is going to be discounted by £10 to £26 keeping the same number on an iPhone 5S. I rather pay £5 a month more and have 5GB then the 500MB I have right now. That's a ten fold increase for an additional £5 a month.

It's surely worth asking them- sometimes mentioning the phrase 'PAC code please' during those conversations, can help!

I see you're in London- I'm near Twickenham... how are they for you?!

Yes I will go into an EE store when I get a chance and see what they say. As for 4G coverage and speed I find its pretty good although it can vary in different parts of the city. Its not scientific but I find using the Internet a much better experience then I did when I was on 3G. The downside is I use to have unlimited data before and now I only have 500MB which basically limits me to browsing checking and sending email and using social networks.

I'm definitely getting the 5S and I rather have the 5GB 12 month sim only plan at £26 then the 500MB 12 month sim only plan at £21.

Thanks for the info. The meagre data that's been offered to date is why I've stayed put on the ancient o2 unlimited simplicity thing... It spoils you. I average around 3gb per month easily... and that billmonitor.com thing always agrees with me and tells me not to change tariffs.

Looks like competition is finally knocking some sense into the EE tariffs! With any luck, they'll stay 'lower' even after this offer period.

Yes, when you request the PAC the line stays active until you use the PAC. When you give the PAC to the new network they process the port and it is processed for the following working day.

Only when your number is live on the new network will your old account actually be terminated.

Be aware though, if you don't give the PAC to the new network it will expire after 30 days and the old account will stay active and they then act as if you never requested cancellation. If you then wanted another PAC a new 30 day notice will start again,
 
Does anyone who got an iPhone 5 last year on EE know now long it took to get there rom being ordering near launch?
 
Wow, 3's deal is really poor. 32GB 5c for £49.99 and £46p/m as apposed to the 32GB 5 for £129 and £31pm. I'd rather pay the extra £80 for the same internal hardware in a better enclosure and save £360 over the 24 months.

Was considering 3 but it looks like I'll definitely be going with EE if thats any indication of what they're going to do with the 5s tariff.

3's deals for the 5C are expensive compared to iPhone 5 but not quite as bad as you make out.

The iPhone 5 on the One plan is £35 per month not £31 so the 5C works out £184 more expensive.

I was looking at recommended without scrolling down so did get it wrong as I was comparing the Ultimate Internet 500 on the 5 to the One plan on the 5c.

So for a more fair comparison the Ultimate Internet 500 on the 5c is £42 so an £11p/m difference and £264 over the 24 months. Still poor when compared to the 5.

Sweet, so the same price currently done for the 64GB model on the £46p/m contract as compared to the 5 which is what I've been thinking of going for. I'll definitely be going with EE now.
