I've done it, so it's possible. The only issue is that just because your item has been scanned into the depot, it might not have physically been unpacked from the lorry. Apparently they do 3 scans, one when the item leaves the previous depot, one when it's unpacked from the lorry and one when it's put on the van for delivery. They can see the separate departure/arrival scans on their tracking info, but we just see on the public tracking that it's arrived at the final depot. So, if you go at the wrong time they might not be physically able to get at the box as it might be buried deep in a trailer...
OK, at long last I've now got a shipping notification and an estimated delivery for the 9th (Wednesday) 
According to the tracking information, it's now arrived at Chek Lap Kok, Hong Kong which is great but the question is how do you guys get to know the flight number of the UPS plane and where it is? I'm not that desperate for the phone (a 16Gb Gold) but just found it interesting to see others track the flight paths of the plane when viewed in planefinder.net and thought that now that mine is on it's way I could track the actual flight.
Any help much appreciated.

I've picked up an Apple TV before they attempted delivery before, so it is possible, but it did take them an age to find it amongst all the others.
Does anyone know the places where you can buy these either Sim Free or PAYG?
Just been on Orange website and you can get 16/32gb silver 5s collected by wednesday 9th which isnt bad if anyone wanted it

If you use this link then tick the box/grid for the model and colour of choice, the right-hand side drop-down for PAYG will allow you to add to basket and buy. This is how I got mine as I originally thought they were OOS too. Seems like they didn't update the whole site so this link is a workaround

After that, you fill in the online unlock form at www.three.co.uk/unlock then wait for the call to take £15.32. Some hours later (can be up to 2 days apparently) the email with unlock instructions arrives - this requires connecting to iTunes with a different network's SIM card.
Not as simple as buying from Apple but that's not straight-forward right now. If someone wants an unlocked 5s in the next week or two this is a proven way to do it. I've only followed what others have done before me as I didn't have time to wait (going abroad soon).
Still following this thread incase a Gold 16 for my wife becomes available in the next week or so. CPW told me today for Gold's last week but others have been updated that it's going to be later
There is also the fact that the goods aren't yet at their final delivery depots, where you will see a 'Destination Scan'. Which as alFR points out means you need to give it a bit of time, there is no point rushing down there the second you see an update.
Of course the big hurdle for anyone wishing to try and do that is simply the opening hours of the depot, especially given most won't be open on a Sunday, so waiting for the 1st delivery is likely the only option anyway.

Also the problem for me is that I have two depots nearby. One is 13 miles and the other 19 miles, and in the past UPS stuff has come from the one that's 19 miles away. But I won't know for sure which one it's at this time until the tracking updates. By then, the depot will probably be closed to the public anyway. So I'll just have to work at home Monday.
If you are referring to the same batch we are discussing here, currently at Castle Donnington, then its not even at your local depot, so you are wasting your time.
Just checked and mines just landed in Castle Donnington as well, I assume UPS don't deliver on weekends but I look forward to Monday (Scheduled Delivery) now . . . . how exciting (even more so as I sold my iPhone 5 on the 20th so I've been stuck using an old k850i for two weeks)
All happened at once for me...moved in to preparing for dispatch early this morning, and is now shipped with delivery on Tuesday!..Finally

Yep, mine's a 32GB gold. Seems like quite a few people on here in this batch waiting for a Monday delivery!

Have my 64GB Gold thats departed from Koeln, Germany at 5:35 A.M. this morning! Usually around an hour or so to get to Castle Donnington, so not sure whats keeping it.
Expected delivery for Tuesday but im hoping Monday, as it does have more than enough time for that to be possible. *fingers crossed*
Anybody in similar position?

Mines departed at 4.05 this morning and arrived at Castle Donnington 9 mins later at 4.14 so these new 5s really are fast

Presumably it's one hour 9 minutes as Koln is an hour ahead and they are local times.
