Well you can dress it up however you like it if it makes you feel better about it, but its still wrong. Apple may be a big (I'm not going to say faceless in their case) Corporation so you might think it doesn't matter, but ultimately you are still costing them money; if everybody did the same thing it wouldn't work and they would also have to end the policy.

Such a policy is setup so that people can ensure the product is right for them, with iPhones I would imagine most people won't have an issue, but its a nice piece of mind to have when purchasing your first product and have hesitation. Deliberately abusing that system though is different.

When I was much younger my first ever job was in retail and the shop I worked in had a similar policy. People would come in and buy Playstations and Sega Saturns simply to 'rent' them over a weekend, then return them, pretty much all the people doing this would do it again. The Manager eventually had to step in and tell such people they weren't allowed to buy that product anymore. That very policy for the store no longer exists anymore now anyway, because it was too easily open to abuse.

Are you really that impatient that you HAVE to have an iPhone 5s while waiting for the one you actually ordered?

That's not even getting to the point of the extra hassle of having to buy one, be careful with it and later return it.

You're right, if everybody did the same thing, it wouldn't work. Fortunately, that is a hypothetical statement and, lets be truthful - irrelevant - as that will never happen. I kind of see your point though.

I also recognise what the policy is for - and that I am not using the policy for that purpose. Having said that, the people at the store were so open and carefree about it, they said, and I quote "Yep, there doesn't have to be anything wrong with it. No questions asked, go ahead."
You say Apple is a large corporation - that is exactly the point. I love shopping locally for food etc. because I like supporting local businesses. I would never, ever, do that to a local Apple reseller. I am more comfortable doing it to Apple, not least because I already spend a huge amount of money on their products and believe their customer service is excellent, but also because it is just that - a large corporation, selling millions of iPhones, and this policy has no restrictions and is open to 'abuse' as you put it, because really, it doesn't matter to them. I mean seriously - it just doesn't. If it did, they would be safeguards in place to stop people doing it. Also it only happens for a very short period of a product cycle, and only for high demand items.

Finally, I should state that my iPhone had a dead pixel, so I had a genuine reason.

I see where you are coming from - morally - but in practice? I just don't care - I can't wait!

PS I live 2 minutes from the Apple store so this is also a factor. Its easy to do, and you don't have to return the phone in any particular condition (I asked). Obviously not smashed up/water damaged etc.)

Guys I think he's joking, I mean it'd cost apple more to collect and fly all the phones back to china, for a free update we could perform ourselves. Besides I've had the receipt for mine emailed to me with the money been taken too

Indeed! Off work tomorrow, so hope it's here early, so I can do other constructive things! (Like playing with the fingerprint sensor and the slow-mo of the dog) :D

Hopefully mine will come before I go to Uni, so I can sync it with my macbook whilst getting ready and then play with it on the train.... And my lecture.... And my double free.... My seminar..... And the train home.
 
I finally gave in and created an account on here..........i see the 20th september phones are arriving, i ordered mine on the 24th, can anyone give me a possible time frame that it will be shipped or delivered in? i know it won't be any time soon, i just don't want to wake up to disappointment every day hoping for a shipment

I think you will get it week c 14 Oct or earlier
 
That's good to hear, i read shipment dates of 31st oct+ on a different thread :(

Depends on what colour you ordered though. Gold is really really limited at the minute and so may take more time regardless of when you ordered. Some people who ordered the Gold on the 20th are still yet to see their orders dispatch.

16gb gold from apple website, i'll just prepare for the worst and assume i'll be getting it sometime in november the way things seem at the moment?

Can't really tell tbh. It could end up being a lot earlier if Apple start ramping up production :) All we can do is wait and see :/
