Received my 32GB silver 5S today around 11. I love it. It's amazing and so quick, and 1000X better than my 4. Well chuffed. Tried the compass/ level and on a flat surface it's out by 1-2 degrees. Tried my 4's compass/ level app and that's out by the same. Do I care? No. 1-2 degrees is so small. And I'm not exactly gonna use an iPhone to fit a shelf, and don't expect real builders etc too either.

See y'all in 3-4 years. Lol

Guys my new 5s is not working :-( what a dissapointing start
It's not reading the sim
Can anyone please help

Need some help guys, what's the quickest way to get a replacement for an online order that's defective?? Can it be done in store, or do you have to call up Apple Care??

5S has debris under screen...

in-store via Genius Bar will be fastest but you will get a "refurb" or "service unit" there has been long discussions on whether the service unit is a brand new unit at this stage of a product launch. apple care call them "as new".

Think you can get it done instore. Though my phone is getting replaced within 5 days (apparently) by courier. Call after sales and discuss it.

Returns have to be sent back via mail if you ordered online, however, since your problem will be covered by the warranty, you can go straight into a store. They won't have stock for a replacement, though :(

Any golds at London stores?

Has anyone managed to buy a Gold 5s today or over the weekend? How early did you have to queue? Tips welcome!

To any people with OCD like me about scratches. I've kept the back plastic film on my new iPhone until I get a proper back protector and hole punched the camera lense out! Works really well, and you still protect the phone/ use the camera effectively

Try (in order of increasing difficulty/time):

Clean SIM with alcohol wipes / eraser on the contacts
Reboot phone (hold power/home until it goes off and reboots)
Restore phone
? get new SIM
Call Apple / Genius Bar appt

Tried multiple sims don't work
Tried reboot

How do I restore ?

Plug it into the computer, start iTunes, wait for phone to be recognised then click the restore phone button on the summary screen.

p.s. Back it up first!

Cool thanks.
Nothing to back up hehe brand new gold brick at the moment

AFAIK you can do either. For the Applecare method, see posts from Mercenary (think in this thread but it might have been in the gyro one) where he talks about how it works. Might be worth calling your local store and asking about stock of replacements in your size and colour before you go over there...

White box replacement came today. Power button still rattles but it's near perfect on the level now.

It's a week 37 unit. New, not a refurb. It's still too early for refurb units.

I thought iPhones needed a working SIM card in order to activate?

I can't get it to activate due to it not finding a sim

put it in dfu mode ( google how to do that), then connect it to itunes. It will tell u the phone has to be restored an downloads the latest ios for it.

out of curiosity, to the guys who received their iphones today. What version of ios did they ship with?

7.0.1

Hi mate don't know if you heard but I seen your reply this morning, it went from edinburgh to glasgow destination scan, came around 4:30. Only thing was, I'm 16 and the guy needed a signature from an adult. Panicked, seriously the thing i was waiting for for weeks was in his hands and he finally gave in and gave it to me. All is great, finger id is fab only thing is a problem with the sim, giffgaff are sorting it though.

Tried and it didn't work. I definitely have a bricked phone, what a terrible way to end my 2 and half week wait for the phone. The gold colour also means I won't be getting a quick replacement. I wasted an overpriced screen protector I bought from apple too (£8). Depressing times, but first world problems I guess :)
This doesn't appear to be a common problem either, most threads about it are from iPhone 5

that's bad luck. You should call apple and get a replacement shipped to you this should be a brand new retail unit.

your other option is to take it to an apple store (make an appointment with a genius) and get it replaced there, the apple store replacement will be a "service unit" aka refurb. these are handsets only that come out of a different box so u get to keep the accesories and box u have now. these units are service units and are not for sale so they might have the spac that matches yours.

if I was in your place I would opt for getting a brand new retail unit and just send the duf one back with the box it rode in on. tell them that u waited since the 20th etc maybe u get priority.
