so u have zero level on all sides? u r in the minority, r u week 39 too?

----------

u are measuring the surface so if u rotate 180 degrees u should get the same, u should worry if not :)

Yes week 39 Gold 64GB - 0 degrees on all sides :) - the only thing wrong with the phone is the sleep button is slightly loose and rattles but I deffo won't take it back for that considering I may have one of few 5S's with working sensors!

Oh and for those pics or didn't happen people:

that's bad luck. You should call apple and get a replacement shipped to you this should be a brand new retail unit.

your other option is to take it to an apple store (make an appointment with a genius) and get it replaced there, the apple store replacement will be a "service unit" aka refurb. these are handsets only that come out of a different box so u get to keep the accesories and box u have now. these units are service units and are not for sale so they might have the spac that matches yours.

if I was in your place I would opt for getting a brand new retail unit and just send the duf one back with the box it rode in on. tell them that u waited since the 20th etc maybe u get priority.

I have booked an appointment for Saturday, but I will give them a call tomorrow to see what they say. Even if they will send me one, I don't see it being quicker than a week. I will definitely ask for a free screen protector considering I bought it from them and wasted it.

Week 39 gold 64GB turned up this morning (ordered 12:02 20:09). No issues so far. Now just need the wife's nano SIM to turn up so she can have the 5 and the 4S will be destined for resale/recycle. Fonebank seem to be offering a fair price, unless anyone knows of better?

Give it to charity?

I already gave at the office.
At least there is, in my probably naive opinion, some tiny amount of responsibility in using a recycling service rather than trying to extract the maximum ROI through eBay et al.

Part of the "buy SIM free from Apple" approach, rather then selling your soul to the carriers is an expectation of a fractional return on the capital investment.

OK, I bit. It's been a long day, with a shiny new toy that I've only been able to play with for about an hour.

I've been told I'll receive my replacement within 5 days.

wait till sat to get a refurb? might as we'll wait for the retail unit replacement, maybe a couple of days longer but much better solution IMO.

It actually makes a change I always seem to be the one who picks up all the faults! - but yeah now you know it's possible to have a 5S which works :p - Maybe mine was one of the latest ones to be built week 39? - maybe they all work fine after that?

why what's up with it?

----------

what spec might buy it off ya if u don't open it that is :)

Why are you sending it back?

Nothing wrong with the iPhone…

I had a buyer lined up for my 5, who said she just needed to wait until payday (the end of September). She then decided she couldn't afford it as she's moving house… This happened after i'd placed the order but before i'd received it.

eBay prices have now dropped quite a bit for a 5 (even for those similar to mine - which is in excellent condition with all accessories), and there are no takers on my work noticeboard.

I can't really afford the £629 without a decent resale value coming in from the 5 – I should have ignored the offer and placed on eBay before the 5s was announced, or close to it, which has worked well in previous years.

:(

So close…

My 5s is also fine in those two planes. Most are. However, lie your iPhone flat on a surface on it's back. That's where the problem lies. Excuse the pun.

Received 64gb today briefly tested the gyro an so far got a zero laying it on its back.

I'll do a more thorough test tomorrow and report back

UK iPhone 5s and 5c Thread

Need some help guys, what's the quickest way to get a replacement for an online order that's defective?? Can it be done in store, or do you have to call up Apple Care??

5S has debris under screen...

I think you can exchange it in store. If you want a refund it has to go back to the online store. At least this was the way in the past.

It may not be debris and in fact dead pixels. My first 64GB had dead pixels in a cluster. The glass and digitiser and fused on this phone so debris less likely.

I put it flat and it was -1 on my work desk so I thought it wasn't working until I tried all other sides and it was still -1 so checked with a leveller and my work desk wasn't actually straight :p

Checked another desk which was and it works perfectly fine flat too - can't take a picture as I don't have another phone with me, will try and remember to take one when I get home.

better to use floor than desk

If you phone AppleCare and they offer a replacement you will have it next working day. A UPS man turns up, hands you a new box and pops your old phone in a jiffy bag. Job done. Thats if you go for the express option.

Otherwise you will be without a phone for a week

Ah, day 17: still processing. I keep telling myself it's giving them more time to fix the gyros before they build mine, but this is getting a bit tedious now. Hopefully some movement before the end of the week...

Having switched from the 4, I've had to wait for my sim to activate. I noticed under mobile though it says Enable 4G.

Which I don't have on my contract, or is it something that is there by default from the iPhone 5 onwards?

More Progress

Ordered my 32gb gold on September the 20th at 9.30 am and received the confirmation email at 9.42am.
Ordered on Apple UK site and all times are UK GMT
Finally changed to preparing for despatch from processing (07.10.2013)
Checked at 6am (08.10.2013) and now showing despatched with delivery scheduled for 15.10.2013 via UPS which is great as i am off from the 14th - 18th so have plenty of time to set up and play etc.
Not quite sure how to track it yet though
Hope everyone else has some progress soon too
Roll on the 15th

Yes.

Heres the thing though. In the UK we get a statutory 6 year warranty. Not just the one year apple tell you about. However, this 6 year warranty is with the place you bought it from. So CPW. For those of us who bought from apple, its like a 6 year applecare :)

http://www.apple.com/uk/legal/statutory-warranty/

You misunderstand the basics there, in the UK you have the right to commence action for breach of contract against the retailer for 6 years, that isn't the same as a warranty and it's up to a court to decide if the contract was breached (unlikely in the case of a phone with wear and tear).

You might want to read up on the Sale of Goods Act 1979 to familiarise yourself with what it actually means.
