Me neither, I have been without a phone for nearly 3 weeks as I sold my 4 because I really didn't expect to wait this long, its gotta ship by Monday or else they've lied to us!!

oh that sucks.. i have my 4 still.. just going to swap the sim cards when it comes. at this rate i might as well wait for the iPhone 6!

Sucks indeed! I'm trying to be patient but its wearing a bit thin now. The sim is even smaller for the 5s, its a nano sim, had mine ready for weeks.

I'm also without a phone at the moment and I think I'm gonna give up on getting the iPhone 5S for now. Will probably do a low monthly contract with a Samsung phone which I can test and use as a spare (I have two numbers anyway). Will also enable mean I can test another mobile network. Depending on how the Samsung goes, I might stick with it, upgrade it or try for a 5S at some point in the future. The frustration in trying to obtain the iPhone 5S this year has taken the enjoyment out of it for me. I'll probably hate Android (did try it once 4 years ago) but at least I'll have a phone. I really don't want a 2 year contract for an iPhone although I've seen a few which may tempt me.

I also had an Android before I had my 4 and hated it, but your right about having the enjoyment taken out of it. But I have waited this long so going to stick it out although I must admit I have hovered over the cancel items button a few times! I actually wouldn't mind so much if we were kept in the loop better, its this waiting and not knowing that's really getting on my nerves now.

tried buying a 5s today at my local store but it was completely sold out (except for contracts). going to have to try next week...or just order online but i'm not sure what's the best option.

most Apple stores that I have rung seem to have space greys. its the silvers and golds that are in short supply.
One store that I rang today suggested that i took a gamble and rolled up mid morning tomorrow when they all have taken a delivery

Apple have the wrong attitude expecting customers to travel to stores to see if the phones are in stock. They should be reserving them for customers instead of the customer have to chase them.

Except for contracts??? Surely if they have stock they should be shifting it regardless of whether the customer wants a contract or not?

Yep I agree with that. Why can we not phone them up, reserve one with a debit or credit card and receive an email or text notification when one comes in with a remit of having to collect within 24 hours other wise it goes on the shelf.
Its not rocket science

I ordered a gold 32gb 5s on 8th October and it's just changed to "Preparing for dispatch" There is hope for everyone in the 24-28th October dispatch range :)

Aren't all the devices just the same or are the contract devices locked to carriers? I don't know.

But yeah, it's a bit crazy. I asked a member of staff about having the 5S in stock and he told me "If you want to take out a contract, we have plenty of stock or if you're looking to go sim free then we're all out."

Apple should really sort it out and just merge both allocations of stock and make it first come first serve.

Maybe they have a batch that are unlocked and a batch that lock to the network of the first sim entered.

Sorry, I wish they just did it in order because that's the only fair way to do it. I hope you get yours soon!

Don't apologise, its not your fault. Im just mad with them. As soon as I saw your post I went to check the order status and it hadn't changed. Don't expect it to today now not at this time. Never mind, it isn't the 28th yet!

Good evening all.

After reading SoaringStar post above , I went & checked mine again.

Mine has now changed from processing to Preparing To Despatch.

Gold 32GB ordered on 9th October. So Apple living up to their 24-28th time window , will they meet the 4th Nov time I've been given I wonder.

Out of interest , anyone have any idea from experience etc as to how long it stays in Preparing to despatch ?

Cheers

Returns have to be to the point of purchase so if you buy on the Apple Online Store then it has to be returned to them (via UPS or TNT with prior agreement from Apple). I believe Apple retail and Apple online store currently function separately so that may be the reason for this. Things could change next year when both retail and online store operations are merged under Angela Ahrendts.

If you do have a problem contact aftersales and they will issue a replacement and set up the return. You will get an RMA number from Apple and then the TNT/UPS will contact you to arrange the return. Apple should let you keep the original phone until the replacement arrives. Read my posts in this thread for more info.

If you really want to return the phone to store you can do, but this would mean getting an AppleCare warranty replacement. In this case they simply replace the handset. Note that the replacement could well be a refurbished unit.

Hope this helps but equally hope you don't run into a problem in the first place!

thanks for the info, but it came out perfect first time round, no chips scratches dead pixels, nothing :D the level was correct as well, very pleased

Just checked at 10pm, it's preparing to dispatch!! Finally, some progress. Yours should change soon too :)

edit: oh it has lol

I got so excited I came straight here and posted lol! How long do you reckon before it says dispatched? Money has gone from account as well :)
