It's getting beyond ridiculous now all this scalping. Apple have really got to sort this out, but over here it's probably some stupid EU law preventing them from only selling to genuine people. Still 4 Asian guys ahead of me in the queue, all of them buying 2 phones each.

they are using cash too right?

Best thing about online orders it's card only, so the seedy types cannot order!

It's almost impossible to deal with.

If they throw out one genuine customer who happens to be Asian, then Apple would be in MASSIVE trouble. It would be a PR nightmaire.

I don't see what they can actually do about it.

I doubt all the asians are scalpers! Im asian, and if my local store does have stock (currently on hold on the phone to confirm) for the variants I want, I too will be purchasing 2 (16GB Silver + 64GB Gold) but ones for me and one for my sister!

Easy - if cash payment then one phone per customer. If two phones are required then it's credit and debit card only payment and photo ID must be produced.

Problem solved.

Maybe in these early days they should do some kind of check to a valid apple ID, compared to individual ID.

All the ones huddled in large groups almost certainly are

Do you know if they had any 64GB gold?

Id take me about an hour to get their if I leave right now... worth a punt?

I'm in the same position.... I have been trying to phone them since 9:30 but they are either engaged or just options to go through to the general Apple call centre. Even tried emailling but no reply.

I'm the type of person who doesn't give a **** if I offend people, so I quite happily stood there and called people around me out very loudly. "You know what you're doing, I know what you're doing" etc etc. The security at Covent Garden were clearly wanting to act, but only really did it once people started to become vocal. My actions caused a lot of ruffled feathers, to the point where the guys organising the scalpers came over from across the road and tried to get the Apple staff to quieten me down. What it did though was draw attention to what was going on, I was then vocal about how they did it and called/pointed out more, that spurred the security and apple staff to start throwing people out of line.

Kudos to Covent Garden, they are doing all they can. :)

I said it last year and I'll say it again this year: Apple are leaving a lot of money on the table here. Whilst supplies are constrained they should charge more. Or even operate sales in some sort of Dutch auction format. If people are willing to pay more to buy from a scalper they'd pay more to buy from Apple...

Iv got through to them. Just a few minutes ago. Been told they've sold out, and as per usual, they dont know when they are getting the next batch of stock.

You did look the most 'propper' with your folded up Brompton bike, very suave.

Haha. That will be the first and last time I'll be called suave. :D

Don't have my nano SIM with my so I can't use the phone yet, but I've noticed there is a minute imperfection on the "space grey" section on the back. Its so small as to not bother me though. Are yours flawless?

In regards to the scalpers, what if they made it purely card only! It would make End of Day easier for managers not having to deal with large amounts of it. Also allow them to very easily decline any card thats used twice within a set period of time. P4U have that in place!

How many genuine customers pay by cash? If any do, im sure they all have bank accounts and can deposit that money there first.

Just an idea.

Don't encourage Apple to charge even more.
What incentive would they have to reduce the queues if they are making more money from it. It would be a PR disaster in my opinion.

Wouldn't it be simpler to just make it credit / debit card sales only with a maximum of 2 phones per card?

It seems like the ones organising the scalpers are handing out cash to their buyers who drop off the phones and rejoin the queue. They need to make it difficult for the scalpers, not punish the genuine customers.

If impatient people were not paying over £1000 for these devices scalpers would have no incentive to buy so many units.

I would be very annoyed if these people were taking all the phone infront of me in the queue.

Can I just make a point - I completly agree that this scalper situation has gone out of control and is causing a lot of frustration for us genuine purchasers that are eagerly waiting to get our phones but does it really matter what race they are or what continent there from? Do they need to be reffered to as those group of Asians or can they just be called scalpers?

Just a point as we're all from different places on this forum and are sharing our views and updates regarding our orders/purchases.

Hope I havent caused any grief with my post

Thanks

I've now cancelled my 7-10 Business Days Online order. Hope that helps someone on here with a "Delivered: October" order get their phone slightly sooner.

Mine looks fine. In all honesty I've set it up and put it straight in my iP5 case so I'm not fussed.

I do like the fingerprint scanner though :D

It would only cost more while people were willing to pay more. The PR could be simple: base it around cost rather than queues. It was somewhat tongue in cheek but would handle the scalper situation quite well.

Any update about current stock in Covent Garden or Regent St stores?

I could go at lunch time, but I guess at this time will be already sold out :(

It would also upset genuine customers. Really upset them.

I'd hate to be a moderator on a Mac forum having to clear up the fallout if they tried pulling a stunt like that. ;)
