Just spoken to our regular UPS driver at work, he has confirmed they will be delivering the new iPhones in the UK.

He also said that UPS have hired in more staff to deliver the iPhones (agency drivers) as they were expecting to be busy delivering them from launch day. They are not very happy because they were not told the shipments would be this late after launch day. He also said most UPS hubs now have too many staff than they need.

Just back from the Glasgow Buchanan Street store, and the queue was absolutely shameful. It was full of guys with envelopes full of £50 notes, along with their wives (and kids in some cases) presumably to maximise the number of iPhones they could get. When they announced the 16GB models were sold out one guy went through the queue handing out £50 notes to certain people so they could buy 32GB and 64GB models.

There were only four people infront of me to get into the shop when they announced they were out of 32GB models. I stayed anyway, got put through to the inside queue and then a fight broke out! They were letting people into the Apple Store freely for non-iPhone purchases and some kid went in then tried to join the back of the inside iPhone queue and started fighting with the security guy when he was told to leave. The people in front of me decided to leave at that point, I guess maybe they knew the kid who was in trouble, which allowed me to pick up the last 32GB phone they had in stock :D

Props to the staff and security people though. They did a good job getting rid of queue jumpers and such.

Glad another genuine customer managed to get one this morning. I felt like I was the only one in the queue. I managed to get what I am told was the last 64GB Gold. I have to give credit also to the stewards and Apple staff. It's clear they now know how to spot a genuine customer a mile away.

The staff looked exhausted by the whole thing to be honest.

A side note: another thing I am disgusted by is how difficult it is to get an appointment at the genius bar around the time of a new phone launch. I have been trying to get an appointment all week and there is nothing. Normally you get one within 48 hours. I have a genuine hardware issue with my iPhone 5, and I can't get seen because of the ridiculous number of people looking to get replacement handsets to sell online as 'new', in order to offset their upgrade cost! It's ridiculous; almost as big an issue as the scalpers themselves!

Westfield White City Apple store has some more iPhone 5ss in stock. My friend got there at 12pm and now has two cards for 16GB Space Grey iPhones. He's currently waiting in the queue.

Covent Garden update: at 12:20 they only had 32GB space grey left. By the looks of it they had around 40 or so on the table. Probably gone by now, but worth a quick look if you're nearby.

It seems like they gave the online orders the big delay they did just so that they could keep bringing stock into their physical stores to drive the queues and PR, and for the carriers to keep them sweet. That's all well and good, but I don't want to buy a locked phone or a first-network locked phone, and I'm not queueing anywhere. In fact I'm never doing this online order on launch day thing again. This time round I will just wait for my 7-10 business days order, but next time I upgrade if there are no real pre-orders I will just leave it until the online store says it ships in one day, and probably not upgrade so often either. Lesson learnt.

I was about to post this.

After seeing the comment about online orders shipping in a few days, they've clearly held back online orders for launch day pr buzz, and now that is dying down they will start to let online orders go through.

Shameful mr.Cook, considering your shareholders would be more happy that you sell more phones rather than getting people to go to a store and buy a stupid case with their phone purchase.

Maybe in these early days they should do some kind of check to a valid apple ID, compared to individual ID.

Yeah that simple solution would solve all the scalping - make sure that each iPhone is only sold to someone with a valid Apple ID and personal ID to confirm it. Solved.

Have they been informed when the first batch will be shipping?

Agree that something needs done, but what about first time purchasers that may not have an Apple ID? Not everybody wanting an iphone will have one prior to purchase.

Does anybody have information on stock at Eldon Square Newcastle? Can someone check if they have 16gb Gold in stock please? Thank you!

I'd think it very unlikely that someone who has never owned an iPhone and doesn't even have an Apple ID would be in line on launch day... thats proper fanboy territory!

Well 32gb space grey ordered from O2 yesterday arrived today as promised. Now to phone and pay the phone up in full and cancel refresh contract!

Picked up a 32gb space grey 5S this morning from Kingston upon Thames store - they had 32gb and 16gb space grey in stock (that was at midday ish).

I unfortunately missed the initial ordering window and my 64GB Grey online order is stuck on Dispatched: October. From what I can see Carphone Warehouse are charging £709 - the exact same price as Apple, so apart from potentially having to pay an unlock price to get it on to 3, is there any downside to ordering it from CW? Or should I just go ahead and et my phone ASAP rather than waiting for ages?

I think you misunderstand the CPW deal, the phone will arrived "unlocked" to any UK simcard, when you insert your simcard from any UK network it will then lock to that simcard.

So if you are buying to use on Three, as long as the Three card is the first inserted it will not need unlocking to work on Three.

as of about 1pm. Leeds had about 2-3 32gb Silver some 64gb silver and all models of space grey. (don't know how many)
