Do you happen to know how this will work? Will they require full or partial payment to reserve, and will I have to queue for a stupid amount of time or turn up when I like.

Not really confirmed is it. Just the US networks confirming their times.
But, it is looking like an 8AM start.
Depends what you use your phone for... For £5 more on Three you get unlimited 4G data, unlimited texts and 200/300 mins. That is a one month rolling contract... So you can leave easily if needs be.

Ohh i know that sweet feeling, always looking out the window for the delivery truck (UPS in my case) and waking up so early... worth it!
I remember working at home (I'm self employed), waiting for my i5 to turn up on launch day.
I was a smoker at the time and watched as my new in the morning packet kept depleting!
Eventually, at about 4pm, I had to whizz to the shop (top of our road) to get more ciggies and as I came back in the road a UKMail van was about to pull out!!
I flagged him and asked him if he had just tried a delivery at our house number and he said yes, so I flashed some ID and he let me have my phone!
10 seconds could have meant I missed the delivery!
No worries now, because I gave up smoking not long after that and no dramas this time round as anything else I need (food/drink for example), I can/will get delivered!
No need to worry at all. Every iPhone/iPad I've ordered online has been delivered on launch day.
My ip5 never turned up on launch day after delivery vans in Manchester were targeted and drivers threatened for there stock. Came the day after in a plain white van

I made a similar blunder memory wise, 32gb might have been enough back in the days of the iPhone 4 for myself but just isn't enough on my 5S these days.
The main driving factor upgrade is screen size, I just find 4" a little too small these days.

Locked with different SIM?
If I buy from direct from Apple unlocked it will have 4G available on all UK networks.
If I put in an O2 sim (currenly on O2 sim-only 3G for iPhone 5) then decide a week later I want to change to another nework (EE, 3 etc) will 4G still work or is the phone locked to O2?

Suppose when you think about it the criminals are gonna know the van is full of iPhones on a launch day.

Guys your advice please? Transferred money from my savings to my current account but it's gonna take a few days to hit my current account. What happens when after pre order tomorrow apple try to take pre authorisation from my debit card and the money isn't there? It will be by the time they formally take it out end of next week for dispatch......

How likely is the Apple site to crash?
Reason is, I leave for work at 6 so won't be able to order at 8, unless i can find 4G Signal on my iPad.
So my G/F will be trying to order one for me at 8am and just hope she doesn't run into any issues.

That was the info at the time 3 vans hit and robbed at knife point for there stock
