This might be a stupid question, but....

Isn't if fairly simple to unlock your iPhone via your carrier? O2 have a form you fill out and they send you a code within 72 hours, or has this changed?

The Edinburgh Apple Store has been pretty good with stocking new stuff. They had the new Watch varieties on release day too. It'll be interesting to see if they have some in. My wife ordered an unlocked phone direct from Apple rather than risk it. I went with O2 (fingers crossed).

Got the gold sports watch with no problem. Plenty of stock. I'm sure it'll be the same with phones. There's a part of me that wishes I was queuing too, I'm well trained in that area! ;)

hi, what phone did you order?

I ordered the Space Grey 128gb Plus.

Or if you have to put any Sim in it make sure it's a three sim there the only network what you got a chance of a unlock for free

So if you put a three SIM in, I wonder if it will become unlocked as three say all their phones are now on locked since 2014?

OR does it lock and then you have to go through the free unlock procedure? ... Would they unlock it if it was not bought through them?

FFS... Regret just ordering one from JL... Sounds like too much Argo as I do swap to local SIMs on my travels

It's awesome! This is my 3rd Watch. I had the Space Grey Sport on launch day, but sold it after feeling it wasn't 'watch-y' enough. I like my watches, and went with SS with Black Classic Buckle second time around. Then Apple released the updated classic buckle bands and added a brown leather option, so I asked Apple if the would accept a return on the SS with Black Classic Buckle and they did so without hesitation, despite me being outwith the return period.

Now it's just the agony of waiting for it to arrive!

How long had you had the watch that they let you return for?
I've had my SS since launch & was gutted when they launched space black with sports strap

Through your carrier but I don't know how willing they would be
Most carriers will do an unlock nowadays, they usually have information on that on their website. I can't remember exact details but I remember reading of some charging, or others wanting you to have been using their services for x amount of time before unlocking, but that may usually be when the device has been provided by them as part of the contract...

Looks like there's movement with my phone. Security scan and then 'In delivering warehouse scan'. Preston to my postcode is about a 4 hour drive. Guessing nothing else will happen until tomorrow late evening / early morning Friday.

Yes O2 will unlock it but not straight away normally after about 6 months!

As for Vodafone, they match it with your contract and if imei doesnt match no unlock, experienced this as im with Vodafone!

EE- dont even go there lol!!

3- not used them but many say they will do ot for free!

Many on Ebay offer unlocks fpr around £20 so thats an option but not sure how they do it and wether is a true unlock from the carrier and if Apple replacements will be unlocked of you use ebay!!

But one thing for sure if your carrier unlocks it then apple replacements are always unlocked!

Often it isn't this simple.

For example Vodafone: They will only unlock phones that they have despatched themselves from their warehouse.

I'm trying to get my 6 unlocked by them but since it was replaced at an Apple store it's an absolute nightmare.

Edit: @LKN just beat me. But a personal case study is always nice. :p

4 weeks. I was 2 weeks beyond my return window when I went in and got into a conversation about how I was gutted the brown leather model had been released. The did not even query it, just offered to process a refund and let me wait until the new one was in stock. It had been worn and had the usual light scratches too. I couldn't believe the level of service.

Looking at the three unlock service, they will do it for free if you bought your phone through them... But have seen a post where someone bought a phone from car phone warehouse which became locked to three .... Three would on unlock it and referred them back to CPW... Who could not unlock it.

As my UK carrier is EE, who are not the easiest or cheapest to unlock... Will have to cancel the JL order, too risky for me

Vodafone will do it! Just mail them the genius bar notes and they will swap over the imei on file for you.

Definitely free. This will be my third handset with Three and the sales rep confirmed it would be unlocked without me having to ask! Twice prior to that, I called up asking for my phone to be unlocked and there was no charge.

Also, just like the Apple replacement, if you do receive a replacement via insurance claim ask them to unlock it if your hand set was unlocked previously.

That's amazing :) I would have loved space black but wasn't willing to pay the price with the link bracelet, still love my SS though, love the watch

It's a lottery mate I know folk who bought from cpw and it was unlocked and could swap sims until there hearts content and others who it locked to the first sim

I had a rose gold 6S plus from John Lewis in my basket but I couldn't decide if I should pull the trigger.

So it is now out of stock! If it is copper I want one but I won't know until we see them in person

I should add this is but one page of an incredibly convoluted book.

But yes, in theory, with evidence they'll process it. In practise, however...

If you need unlocked phones always go direct!!

Or buy from a carrier as most will unlock some easier and some harder but eventually they do!

I'd avoid contracts from CPW but they do have cheaper deals and if you know someone who works there you get 30% friends discount lol!

Just get a clone mate I had a black link bracelet £33 from China worth every penny now sold it though and have the ss and a clone link again £33 eBay

If vodafone give you trouble email the CEO!! I did that! Got a call back too left a voicemail but my phone got accepted!! So i left it!

Basically my phone kept getting rejected for unlock so called up and Imei on file was correct.

So i sent a mail to CEO. Next day got a mail saying my unlock will be processed and took 2 days!! All good. Had it seapped at Apple for crescent issue and its unlocked! My mrs is using it now on O2 whilst i await my 6S+ on Friday :p

Thanks, yeah totally agree with you... Would not contemplate buying from CPW for this very reason.... But as I was thinking I would actually like a different model than I ordered from Apple... And John Lewis had them for launch day, I ordered one... was going to cancel the Apple order... Then found out that JL lock to first network too! Grrrr will have to cancel the JL order now.... Just too much of a pain to try and network unlock.... I can see it now, hours on the phone "but you did not buy it from us, so we can't unlock it... You need to speak to who you bought it from" ... "We can't un lock it, you need to speak to the carrier" repeat, repeat, etc

All this fuss about unlocking. It's been ruining my life for the last month trying to get 12 business phones unlocked on Vodafone.

Why is locking legal? It's fundamentally anticompetitive. Such a farce.
