Complete myth.
No, it’s not a myth. Especially if you’ve been on the beta programme. Backups can not always) carry bugs and issues over. I always start fresh with every upgrade, for me it’s part of the hype and fun of getting the new phone.

I often find settings that I had forgotten about and enjoy the setup process. I only ever restore from a backup if I get a replacement mid-cycle. I always have amazing battery life by following this route.

Considering iOS is updated or reinstalled on the new device tell me how 'bugs' get transported over?

It has nothing to do with iOS being updated or reinstalled. That’s on a separate partition to the data.

Restoring from a backup, can (sometimes) carry over software bugs and issues because a backup includes the phone's settings, configurations, and data, which can include underlying problems causing glitches or poor performance. To avoid transferring issues, it is best to start with a clean installation and set up the new phone fresh instead of using a full backup.

I’m sorry - you do you if you want to set everyone up again. If you enjoy that process then great. But the rest of it.. bugs, glitches, it is a pure myth. The OS is freshly installed on very new device, you are transferring settings, apps and app data. There are no mysterious bugs in app settings. And if you want to pull down the apps afresh then just recover from iCloud.

I do a lot of beta testing for apple on their accessibility team as I am blind, and I test the software voiceover that is built into the phones that reads things on the screen for us. I was having a weird bug with it a few years ago, and one of the people that properly works for apple said to me when I got a new phone, please don't restore from a backup, because your settings have obviously got corrupted somewhere, so set your phone up as new and see if it works correctly, and yes, it did. so it is definitely not a myth.

If anyone needs an iPhone 17 quick, KRCS appear to have some in stock for next day delivery.

They have some configurations of orange and silver iPhone Pros and all colours of iPhone 17 (except sage) in stock.

Personally I'm waiting on my order direct from Apple, in case of screen lottery issues and ease of returns.

Still waiting as well.... 06 - 13 group and haven't seen any progress yet.

I feel like this time around, my phone will be at best delivered during the window.

Exactly my point.

To the other posters - it is not a myth. You can carry configuration/data issues across to a new device. Having the OS freshly installed is irrelevant. Some people are carrying bugs from many previous devices by doing annual restores then complain the battery isn’t as good as expected.

Ordered a cosmic orange 256GB Pro. They seem to have stock of orange and silver but not blue.

Also Argos offers eBay in three payments, nectar points and collection.

Just hope I can get on with the phone. I never know these days.

Lol ... is that because your phone was scuffed or something else?
Yes came with a scratched back out of the box.

Store refused to allocate me a stock even when CS advised they got some reserved ones.

I had to place a new order on 19th which only got delivered yesterday lol.

But you're returning that aren't you?

I wish they didn't work on such tight timelines. Build up the stock and fulfil them all in the first week rather than dribs and drabs

Why would you call it a myth when its been many users experiences? Just because you have not experienced or observed problems doesn’t mean others hasn’t. 🙄 Its been recommended for years to set up from fresh to avoid passing on problems the other user explains, if you already have problems atleast. If not then you do you. Shrugging it of as a myth is wild to me but thats me

Ugh that sucks but good you got something nice out of it. This is why I video all unpacking of new tech devices or pricy kitchen appliances. If there is factory fault or delivery fault scratch I can provide the video as proof if they disagree
