The stores will have the new phones on display from launch day.
I know it’s because Apple knows that people who want a launch-day phone will order it no matter what. But it really does bother me that they can’t just throw a couple of dummy models into even some stores before the pre-orders go live so that you get an opportunity to have a look at them. I suppose their argument would be that they’re all coming to the store on lunch day and then you may just have to wait a short period of time until you can get a phone when they’re back in stock. But I mean it would be nice to be able to go in and even see the colour options, even if they don’t have the actual phones. Even if they had a back plate with the colours on the materials that they are going to use that year, it would be nice just so you get a rough idea because it is quite difficult to see from a video on YouTube or random pictures that people have taken to judge for yourself, never mind the advertising pictures that Apple use; the colours never look the same as what’s on the website to what it is in real life.

£50 for a case is wild. I know it's got the Apple logo on it but wow.

I grudge paying anything above £20 for a case. The one I went with is £15.

Same goes for watch straps. Stupid me paid £50 for one from Apple cause the one that came with the watch was causing an allergic reaction. The quality of the Apple strap was awful and was ruined. A cheap £7 strap from eBay not only is more durable but the rubber doesn't break my skin out.

Screen protectors are another thing. People paying £15-30 for ONE lol. It's a piece of glass. You can get 3-4 for £9.

From what I've seen of previous Apple cases the quality sucks on them too. They do look good but the price is crazy and for that I expect it to be absolute high quality.

even the staff in store don't get to see them until Friday morning

Yeah, still annoyed about the belkin (screen protector) one I had installed on launch day in store last year, was like £30 and cracked within 2 months... cheap one from ebay 9 months later not a mark on it.

Apple told me to request a new one from belkin as it was under warranty but I just couldn't be bothered.

£50 to protect your £1k+ investment isn't really anything.

Expensive stuff tends to last longer and feel better (materials, build quality, design etc).

I always look in my local TK Maxx for Watch straps because if you do want an Apple one, they are quite often reduced by quite a lot.

I want to go caseless for my 17 Pro, but we'll see how long that lasts! 😂

Ive been a prior fan of the silicon cases which for various reasons I've found better than third party direct equivalents. But then I get them 2H from cex for around £15.

This year though, nope. I want better camera protection than they offer.

So it's nearly time for pre order and for the first time ever, I am confused/torn between getting the Air or the pro model! Do I choose looks over performance 🤪

Get both to test if you can afford the temporary liquidity loss.
Otherwise, I'd say they're very different in use. If you want the size and typically consume media id say the air. Camera addict? Pro surely.

Thankyou! I think I just want different, hence the Air is what I'm leaning more towards. Fed up of the same thing year in year out. I won't get both, but may use the 14 day return thing should I really dislike it.

I’m not sure I understand why you wouldn’t always go for the iUp programme beyond the fact you have to go into an Apple Store?

If you want to keep the phone for two years the cost is the same as buying the phone + AppleCare.

If you want to upgrade the phone after the year but want to sell it instead, can’t you just settle the loan, sell the phone and then start again?

Am I missing something? It seems to be identical to the financing if you want it to be. It just allows you to hand back the phone instead of selling it (which you can still do).

I usually end up with 3-4 cases for each phone and rotate through them every few days. One of them is usually an Apple one as I’ve always found the quality really good and I do love having the Apple logo on the back compared to it just being blank. That said, I’m not sure the quality control of this year’s TWO cases is as good. The ones I’ve received seems to have noticeable glue in various places like along the seam between the side and the back or especially around the camera control button. I really wouldn’t have expected this from Apple.
