Just waiting for mac now

I had my 8gb OWC ram delivered to the UK yesterday - took about a week including wait for stock so pretty quick overall. I had it delivered via FedEx and they didn't even charge me any VAT or anything additional :)

Order process was a smooth as anything, so if you're worried, don't be.

Apple UK are charging £2200 for 8gb list time I looked - mine came to just over £200 after shipping lol.

All I have to do now is twiddle my thumbs until my 2.8 with 8800 ships zzzz.

I was surprised how quickly it came. For what? £9, it was shipped in 5 days. It would have been 4 but as I am at a new address, the FedEx guy assumed it was incorrect but after a quick call to CS, it came a few hours later. The nice lady at CS even called later in the day to check that it was delivered.

rds - which postal service did you choose?
I was impatient (I waited 32 days for my old mac pro memory to arrive)
so I went with the highest priced, was about £25 for deliver but it shipped on the 28th and delivered on the 30th.

I don't mind waiting a week or so but it never says how long to expect to wait.

...Ironically I also have my stock RAM for sale on ebay...lol

p.s. please note the auction was put up hours before I even saw this thread

Does anyone know if there is any import duty on memory/RAM from USA into the UK. I know that you have to pay VAT 17.5%

Cheers

Andy

there is yes.
I bought 4gb (2x2gb) from OWC and duty was about £30.

still, £160 in total for 4GB of ram was cheaper than anywhere else in the UK

I got mine from OWC a few days back and didn't pay any duty at all :D

Finally, Crucial has MacPro (early 2008) up in the UK store. Prices aren't as bad as I thought they might be - haven't compared to OWC with VAT and FedEx yet...

Asked one of the Crucial Reps and they said within the next week some should be available, he wouldn't give me any prices though. I also rang another supplier of Kingston Ram and they quoted me £650 + V.A.T + Delivery for a 8GB Kit, I laughed at him down the phone, which wasn't very professional of me I know, but they are having a laugh when you compare it to what OWC are offering.

3x as much for RAM in the UK is not funny. Seriously considering ordering from OWC.

That is crazy .
I ordered an 8Gb kit from OWC yesterday, am getting it tomorrow.
Price including UPS Express shipping is $479.
I payed £50 import duty.

Received mine today and I was dinged for $61.75 Canadian by customs.

So is this the correct orientation? I have all my OWC in on the first riser card while the 2x1GB Apple Hynix are on the bottom. The manual insert was a little hard to grasp.

Feels snappier than with 2GB but I can't really quantify how much the improvement really is.
