same, except i entered the "additional order number" or whatever it was called, and it brought up tracking info for some package delivered to a Mr Carter back in November '11

but that's Edinburgh; a big city, the more rural parts of Scotland will probably have estimates pushed back.

TNT tells me, using the additional number and the current numbers:

Destination: Glasgow + Launceston. Neither of which are even remotely close to me.

I can't remember which number is the correct one to use. If I remember correctly, TNT don't update in the weekend. I prefer UPS.

It may well not be with them yet. Apple (or Syncreon) may well just be labelling them up and sorting them into groups ready for pickup in the next couple of days. If TNT hasn't scanned the package onto their network yet then they will have no idea where it is yet.

Ive received a text this afternoon saying mine is shipped and will be delivered on or before 16th. I have checked status and its at Uttoxeter already! I wonder if there will be some early arrives this time round?

That is also true, but I don't think they work in the weekend anyway.

All the numbers given on Apple's Site are 10 digits long, TNT tracking numbers are 8 digits, so i'm thinking those of us with TNT can't track ours.

when you put in the Additional number you'll notice it ignores the last 2 digits.

Mine is with UPS, haven't tried to track it yet, it will get here on friday. Every console I have ordered for launch day has been held at the depot until the release date, I expect this to be no different either.

Why do these companies go to such lengths to make sure they arrive on launch day. It's been announced, we've paid, now dish 'em out asap!

Yeah. I believe if you actually go to the depot, you can pick it up. I'm not a lawyer, but surely once you've paid for it and it's left Apple it's legally yours? A courier can't hold onto it (unless there's outstanding payments to be made etc.).

They will do whatever Apple has contracted them to. If Apple has required them to not release it till the Friday then I imagine they will do that. All they know is that Apple has hired them to deliver something to you. The ownership could be yours, Apple, or someone else as far as they know or care. They will fulfil their contract in the cheapest way possible.
Since we don't know the exact contract, it is worth a try. If tracking has the package at my local depot before closing Thursday I will at least ring them and try to convince them to let me pick it up then. I imagine lots of proof of ID and address will be needed, but can't hurt to try.

I don't know, with consoles it has something to do with legalities, and trying to get game sales data to fall at the start of a week so that they can hit the top of the charts. I don't know why they would with iPad but they have in the past. I hope I am wrong, I would love to get mine on tuesday or monday. Maybe someone else has a theory?

It is pretty easy for Apple to control the delivery date. Imported goods are held in a bonded warehouse (a secure section within a courier's facility) and they cannot be released until duty+VAT is paid. If Apple pays the VAT on Thursday then they cannot be delivered or released before then. The fact that the recipient (you) has paid for the goods means nothing until HMRC gets it's coin.

I'm not sure if they would use this method but it's possible

Just so that people don't get upset when someone else gets theirs and they don't understand why theirs didn't come the same day. With this system they can process orders and get them ready for shipment in whatever is the most efficient order logistically. As long as they get all the orders processed by the release date it doesn't matter at all what sequence they use. I think it's a fair system and don't mind waiting a few days.

Sounds about right, though I'd also add preparing the ecosystem for the devices as a reason. They've gotta have the support teams lined up, probably prepare for higher than normal bandwidth use via iTunes / App Store, make sure that all the store staff are trained etc etc. Really isn't as easy as some people seem to think and I've never understood the complaints to be honest. Surely if you get yours early it's just a bonus?

Yeah that's the deal ive got been using it since i picked up my iPad 2 last April.
Its basically an iPhone 4 payg micro sim deal. You can pick one up from the shop and top up £10 then you call up tmobile and ask them to activate your 12 months free internet access.

Tmobile have started clocking on that loads of people are using the micro sims for other non iPhone purposes i.e psp vita, dongles, iPads etc What they have started doing is asking for your iPhone IMEI number. If u have an iPhone 4(s) then no problem but if not you might wanna ask someone who does.

Fantastic. Will do. Yea, I have an iPhone 4 and 4s in the house, so no problems there! Cheers!

Comparrision on all the recycle sites out there

Dave

Great site my friend

But just to let you know that the data is already way out (not sure how often your site checks the prices?)

The top result for iPad 32gb wifi shows as £270 for example.....when you click through to the site that turns out to be £200. Quite a steep drop.

Kind regards
