It's here! Luckily I was released from work early because of the rain - I work on a farm until uni. The only negative is that it has an LG screen :( I might call Apple and ask for a swap. I know that seems silly but I think its my right to ask for whatever I want seeing as I'm paying a fortune for it!

Also, how do you run a dead pixel check?

How the the brand a negative point? Surely it's what you see in front of you that determines if the screen is good quality or not? Are you in any way disappointed by the screen?

For dead pixels you can just find a bunch of blank canvas images I guess and fullscreen them?

Hmm when did it merge then? Yesterday, or is that happening today before delivery?

Also Apple track says: "In Transit to Customer - Shipment on Schedule" (although no courier details given). Obviously it means the courier/next recipient to deal with the package as "customer", but i think thats pretty cheap that Apple word it like that to make any average person think it's coming to them.

I'm assuming it merged last night as when I got my UPS tracking number they list both packages. So I think one courier picks it up from Heathrow and then I guess the merging is done by UPS - maybe Apple and UPS share facilities? Would make sense as it's been nowhere else as far as I can tell.

No, not disappointed. Just wary that problems might develop, judging by the number of complaints about LG screens. Also, the tech snob in me leans towards Samsung simply because I think they're a better company. And don't they use a slightly different tech in their screen making? At the end of the day, I want the best bang for my buck. This screen looks great but put it next to a Samsung screen and it might not look as good.

Other than that, gorgeous laptop! So thin and light.

Happy Apple day! :apple:

But there are a lot of reports of backlight bleeding coming from Samsungs. If yours is ok why run the risk of getting a dud?

I don't know. I have an LG TV which I think is excellent. I've never had a Samsung to compare. Personally if I think the screen looks incredible and I can't fault it I wouldn't seek a replacement. I mean, disregarding the time/effort, I've read stories of people replacing one small problematic device for an even more problematic ones, multiple times. Yeah I heard technology was different, but it appeared that "LG use true IPS panels" or something like that, I don't know. I've read arguments for both of them being superior to one another so it all seems superfluous tbh.

ANYWAY, back to waiting.

Oh right well maybe there's a small chance I get it tomorrow? This is my exp.o

Ah no probably not, the requested delivery date is whenever it is delivered to the courier who will take it to a merging facility. So you're probably looking at Friday.

Yeah realistically I'm thinking Friday but secretly hoping tomorrow, just because yours was ready yesterday AM too! I don't know how long I am working Friday... From 6 to at least 9:45, possibly until 2pm. If it comes when I'm not there I'll be pretty distraught. I think I'll be spending my half an hour break at home to increase chances LOL.

Cheers for the words of wisdom :) I feel better now. Will run an IR check in the next day or two though.

I hope everyone gets theirs soon. Like a few people have said, it's worth the wait. Even the typing feels nicer than the old machine.

Mines here and it has scratches and marks

Looks like it won't be a keeper... on the phone to apple.

This is a huge dissapointment.

I need to send pictures to Apple, so they can send it for "analysis"... Not that that matters on my part because they are collecting this unit within 3 days, then I have to wait 3-4 days for a new one to be built, then the additional days for shipment to the uk :(

On the plus side, they are crediting my debit card £50 for the inconvenience which is great!

I seriously thought Apple sorted out their QC by now... I guess not.

****, is the scratch that bad? And surely they should send you the new laptop first, thats bs.

It's bad enough as there are 3 and a weird mark... I almost asked them to send out the new one first, but that means setting up a waiver form and all sorts of mess and I just can't be bothered with Apple right now...

Are they not gonna at least start building your order first?

£50 is a nice reimbursement, but would still be horrible to go through the waiting again!

She mentioned it but the system wasn't updating fast enough or something... Collection is 2-3days but I'm not sure they will start building it until it's collected... I have to say that I'm not even impressed with the screen colour/brightness :( It's a dullish warm colour. The clarity is excellent, it's certainly "retina"

Is there no way you can pick one up from the store? I have a store ten mins away from me and there's no way I could stand waiting for another week! Really hoping nothing is wrong with mine :/

It's a custom order (processor upgrade on the base model)...

How do we find out the screen manufacturer? I'll used commands from google but nothing works. It just sats "Color LCD"... This screen is really dull :( (but we can change that with a profile :D )

Ugh. How come these dud laptops are getting sent out, anyone know? Is this normal with a new product?

N-stocks: Is your screen LG or Samsung? You should definitely demand that you keep your current laptop until a new one is made for you. You could ask for it to go to the apple store and then just swap in a couple of weeks. Seems fair to me.

Also, the screen does't seem that bright to me either. Not as bright as my 2009 imac.

Are you 100% positive these are actual scratches? Back in March when I bought my iPad, there were what genuinely looked like scratches on the back, even felt like it to the touch. I couldn't remove them... Initially. With a little saliva, and rubbing much harder, they started to peel off. It was actually dried up glue. The aluminum was in fact perfect. This happened twice in a row at the store, I figured it out the second time. Give it a try if you haven't already.
