I know the US prices doesn't include sales tax but can anyone explain the UK price? It's $2788 (£1799) for the base model. that gives $588 for the sales tax which is about 26.7%. find me a state in the US charging that much for sales tax.

That isn't just sales tax, the price difference includes currency conversions and additional shipping blah blah blah...

The new MBPro looks absolutely beautiful.

Retina, ssd... I figured would be part of its make up. What stops me from seriously considering buying it is the lack of ethernet... I know everyone was saying ethernet would go which turns out true, but I use my late 2011 uMBP for work (which means it gets plugged into the local network sometimes).

However I love the way they've moved the vents to the side which must improve cooling by a %multiples... USB3 x2 and Thunderbolt x2.... hmmm...

Think I'm going to stick with my current set up for a while yet ..... :(

The thunderbolt to ethernet adapter exists for that reason, to be able to use ethernet when you need/want to :)

Waiting for what the 13" has to offer whenever that decides to come about. Storage is measly in fact the non retina mbp looks like a bit of a bargain in comparison with its equally generous specs.

my price includes currency conversions and you can't tell me it costs more to ship to the US from china instead of the UK? and I'd take a bit of a hit but 26%?????????????????

Really annoyed at how much more we pay for exactly the same items in the US store.

It's a Effing Liberty!

2199USD = 1417GB. add 20% VAT = £1702. Not too far off our price.
Remember US prices do not include tax in the up-front price.

Really want one considering the Mac I'm using right now is four years old and starting to get slow. But whether or not I have to money to get another is a whole another story... I'm probably going to have to sell my current Mac to fund a new one. Has anyone done this or is thinking of doing this? Curious as to how much it could fetch on the second-hand market.

I'm planning on doing the same, and am sure many others here on MacRumors will be selling their existing MacBook Pros (if they have any) to fund purchasing the new MBP. Mines is the Early 2011 model. Going to check eBay and see how much is the average selling price.

£1800?!?!?! I want this machine so darn much but that is just ridiculous. No way in hell should the base model cost nearly £2k!

Why do they still have the previous MPB's as well?! Why not get rid of all the fat ones and bring the retina to the 13" too? This doesn't really make much sense to be honest.

Your price includes the current currency conversion, but Apple will have added a margin in for fluctuations in the USD/GBP price. Check rikbrown's post.

I started a thread with the following statement:

Why is it a shock, and why do i feel the need to make a separate thread?

Simple, go and price up a new thin retina MB Pro, then go and do the same with the current non retina MB Pro and include non Apple memory and 512GB or what ever SSD...

You will be in for a shock, I did this and the new retina MB Pro even with an Apple ethernet adapter AND external DVD Apple drive is actually a few pounds CHEAPER!!!!! Then a current MB Pro with a Vertex 4 512GB SSD and 16GB or 1600mhz SODIMM!!

Now this is a shock.. but a pleasant one. We are going to desperately need these reviews and benchmarks of the new models...

So what are your thoughts on that one, if the new machines do indeed use SATA3 interface speeds, then they are better value. If I used a Samsung 830 512gb SSD then the Retina machine is even BETTER value!!

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously, go to Scan.co.uk and price up a Vertex 4 or Samsung 830 512GB drives and 16GB of ram and the current MB Pro costs MORE then the new Retina model with all the options from Apple! And those are the 2.7ghz options. Also did anyone notice how Apple has dropped memory options from the store for the older style machines?

It is mostly import duties charged by the UK government. That's why the price is crazy high in other countries like Brazil.
