I cancelled my rMBP order today. I can't get myself to support Apple until they straighten out issues with Foxconn and any other manufacturer they purchase from. Second, their design choices on rMBP lowers its sustainability substantially. I could careless about whether or not I can upgrade memory or HDD on a system, if the manufacturer gives me an option to upgrade at time of purchase. But what does concern me is that if the memory or SSD goes out, or I have other hardware issues that normally could be fixed by replacing it by itself, then the logic board is going to be worthless i.e. going in the trash (or however Apple disposes of logic boards). I'm not sure how the LCD or battery repair is going to work, and whether or not this can happen by replacing them individually.

While I have these ethical concerns, a bigger issue for me was the effect buying the rMBP was having on my psyche. I think innovation in technology is awesome, but when it becomes an obsession I think it becomes problematic (to me at least). I feel like purchasing the rMBP would start me on a long consumerist obsession chain of events where I would have to have the new Apple products. I was already getting into the state of mind by thinking about how I can integrate my iPhone with the Macbook, and how awesome future products would be with Apple.

I don't mean to direct any attention to other people's purchasing decisions here. This was a personal decision I made, and I wish you all the best of luck and enjoyment with your rMBPs! :)

Maybe I will purchase a Macbok Pro in the future, if Apple straightens a few things out first.

So what you're saying is, you cancelled your order because you were going to enjoy your purchase too much?

Is self-flagellation back in vogue too?

Anyway, each to their own, as they say...

When I saw that mine had gone out for delivery at like 4am, I was sort of hoping for an outside chance of it arriving before work, but no dice.

Probably for the best, would only have resulted in me "working from home" for the day.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Mine arrived yesterday.

Mine has had UPS updated:

Incheon, Korea, Republic of 04/07/2012 11:05 Departure Scan

Not sure how it will get from Korea (Or why it is going backwards, I presumed they would fly westerly) and get delivered for Friday (As UPS says) or Thursday as Apple says!!

May I ask when your machine went from processing to preparing for shipment? Just curious about the timeframe I should expect. Thanks!

I *think* it was on the 28th, then to shipped a day later?

As soon as you get a number begining with 8 on your apple bridge page, you can go to http://expo.expeditors.com and track what's going on.

Mine took quite a while to clear customs in the UK, but UPS have been quick as buggery.

It's going to be a long day. If I lean back in my chair I can see right down the car park to the gate, and we have the window wide open so every time I hear a diesel engine I'll be looking :p

Mmmm, Pegasus R4, niiiice :D

What protective sleeve have you gone for? I can't seem to find any specifically for the rMBP. Congrats!

Brenthaven Pro style II for the 15" MBP. It's not specifically for the rMBP, but it goes in there nicely and isn't loose. The only problem I have now is that this damn notebook is longer than I expected and does not go all the way in into my backpack. It's not a major train smash because I normally only carry my MBA, but I wanted the option to be able to take my shiny new rMBP occasionally.

:) I was going to get a Mac Pro with lots of internal storage, but when Apple didn't upgrade it I decided to rethink my set up. This should be fine for me, but I would have preferred a faster CPU and the ability to install > 16 GB RAM. Nevertheless, I think the rMBP and the R4 makes for a nice compromise and it's a shiny new toy to play with. I have to say that the screen is out of this world and it looks even better in normal lighting situations as opposed to the bright interior of an Apple store.

i'm getting fairly angry now.. i ordered on the 12th of june and apparently its still processing and going to be on the 17th-23rd, which seems a ridiculous wait seeing as i bought the base model. is anyone else having a similar problem?

Give Apple a ring and see if they can do anything? Seems like an odd wait for a standard order. Could always cancel it and get the base model from an Apple Store.

It seems that bricks-and-mortar stores - Apple's own and 3rd party - are getting priority on standard configs (as that is all they sell) which explains why CTO options are shipping quicker.

Amazon.co.uk

Just wanted to give a big thumbs up to Amazon. After weeks of procrastination, ordered my rMBP (2.6/8GB/512MB) from Amazon on Saturday for £2230. Even though it was showing as out of stock when ordered, it was then dispatched Monday.

Monday evening I noticed that the out of stock price had dipped to £2030 - I phoned Amazon to ask for difference refunded, and considering as I was a prime customer, preferred to buy stuff from them rather than marketplace sellers, they agreed!

Fantastic customer service, and if you aren't bothered about bto options, I heartily recommend them.

It was delivered yesterday as expected.

Thrilled with it, what an upgrade from the late 2009 MBP!
