Mine has the negative issue. Boo. Going in to the Apple store later to try and swap over.

My LCD serial is: 7455232 - is there any way of checking what LCD it has without activating it?

*sigh*

Not that this will satisfy the OP… but…

UK iPhone:
Week: 44
LCD: 7455232
Deadpixels: 0

No negative issues.
I have also run the website "test" on a MacBook Pro screen (glossy) and a Dell 2407WFP.

I have to conclude that for such a small screen my iPhone compares very well with those…

I have the same LCD panel, but it's week 42 - from what I've read on other sites this morning (trying to do my research!) the 7455232 panel is fixed AFTER week 42, so if anyone is having these issues with the panel, simply look for a week 44 phone. That's what I'm hopefully going to do later!

Nope, ive received a week 44 phone with the negative issues.

Crap. What's your panel's ID?

7455232. Im receiving another new phone this week from apple, im guessing itll be a week 45, keeping my fingers crossed, but my guess is that ill get another defective one.

We replaced our dodgy panel iPhone at the Regent Street store yesterday. Apple weren't in a mood to allow my GF to open as many boxes as required to get a good screen and were on the defensive... saying that this maybe is how the UK iPhone is meant to be

Anyway, it didn't matter as the first phone she tried at the Regent Street store was perfect... and she left as a happy iPhone user!

Great to hear she got a good screen. Im keeping my fingers crossed and hope that the next one I receive is good :)

That's what I feared - I'm just hoping they'll let me have a look at a few in the Apple store before I walk away with a replacement...!

Apparently 7459072 is the good one to have.

That's good to know - just checked and it's what I have. It's a perfect screen, no issues or dead pixels. My iPhone is a week 43 model, and so far it's been flawless :D

Mines a week 43, 7S7, Panel ID 7459072, looks great with all the test pages posted here.

Well - just got back from the Apple store. I'll be honest, they were pretty reluctant to change it, and couldn't really see what I was complaining about.

They swapped the phone over for a week 44 'service phone' they had (in other words, just the phone, no accessories - since I'd bought originally from CPW). It has the same LCD ID, but I think the screen seems to be a lot better, from what I can tell.

It's nowhere near as bad as an iPod Touch I had back in September, that was awful for watching videos on.

I'm done worrying about it now, if things bother me in future I guess I can always swap it at the Apple store a few weeks down the line!

I'm feeling really deflated about this now - the week 44 one I've picked up today is acually the same, despite me initially thinking otherwise. The Apple store said it was the only replacement one they had and were pretty reluctant at that.

So I've already replaced it once - what can I do? I called apple support but they said they don't repair or send out phones.

Any suggestions anyone?

I am for the time being satisfied with the screen I got it has one obvious dead pixel but only when its on a totally black screen - otherwise it is hidden behind icons on the screen.

It is still negative and still has a YELLOW tint but its acceptable.

I tend to think (for the time being) to wait for a month and see what the newer panels are like and then maybe I can get it swapped at an apple store or fixed under service.

We will see - I partly feel that it is a waste of time going after another exchange when I will most likely end up with a screen thats the same as the one I have if not worst!

I'm the same i have 7 stuck lit pixels and only one really is noticeable so i am holding onto it for now. I fear getting one with even one stuck pixel in a worse location so its probably better to stick. Anyway the 14 day period doesn't apple now since the 31st October. You now have until Jan 9th 2008

Don't give up - Apple have to get the message that customers won't accept sub-standard components on their premium products.

In his Keynotes, Steve Jobs describes the iPhone and iPod Touch screens as 'gorgeous'. Well, they're not gorgeous if you can't view video on them without wanting to cry.

I queued up for 12 hours to get my iPhone from Regent Street on Friday and the lighting along one edge of the screen was all patchy. I took it back yesterday. They were helpful in swapping it out for a (thankfully) good one but they said that they wouldn't keep letting me open boxes until I found a good one.

This annoyed me on two counts a) that it should be such a lottery in the first place and b) I spent 12 hours being interviewed and photographed by the press and radio generating untold thousands of pounds in publicity for Apple products. I think I (and every Apple fan) deserves to get a product they're 100% happy with.

Take it back and keep trying until you're happy

This is what annoyed me about the experience - I paid £269 for the device, and am tied in to a £45 contract. I don't mind this, but I do mind that, like you said, it's such a lottery whether you get a decent screen. I should be able to open as many bloody boxes as I like until I get a screen that I, as a consumer, am happy with.

What annoys me the most though is that once you've opened it there's an extremely easy way to actually see what screen you have.

I haven't got time to go back to Apple today, going to try CPW. I just want a decent screen - it's soured my early experiences of the device, which is such a shame because (aside from the screen issue) I've really enjoyed using it so far.

I presume that next time you're going to buy a TV you'll be doing the same. Or next time you buy a laptop, or a sat nav. Good luck with that....

The reason they won't do it is probably that they can't then sell those iPhones you've opened as new, they'd have to sell them as refurbs (or "open box", at any rate). Of course you can argue that if you'd been happy with your first screen you wouldn't have to do that, but that's nothing to do with why they won't let you keep opening boxes in the store.

The ones I wanted to open are service ones. They come in a box that is NOT sealed and are NOT fully boxed ones for sale.

I'm not a fussy bugger, but trust me if I had the same issue with a TV, laptop or sat nav I'd be quite prepared to do the same.

Fair enough, can't quite see the issue there then.

I'm sure. I just think that you wouldn't get any further with Currys or wherever than you did in the Apple shop (esp. since they're unlikely to have a load of "service" TVs lying around).
