Not sure what size to go for..

Hey all,

Not sure what size I should go for. 18 y/o male btw.

I think I prefer the bulk of 38, but want to be able to dress it up a bit and since I'm buying a sport I'm not sure if the milanese loop works, so feel like leather loop could work.

Resized the photo so my wrist is about the same size in each.

Thoughts?

I like the 38 on you. Both bands are nice.

My vote is for the 38 also.

So I've been second-guessing whether the 42 mm was too large for me or whether I wanted to go with a more mild 38 and that was based on all the measurement guidelines I've seen on the forums.

Then I came across a webpage which showed a size comparison with the pebble steel

The pebble steel is supposed to be 4 mm larger however in the images it's clear the pebble is somehow measuring the watch lugs or something because the 42 mm Apple Watch is almost the identical height.

The overall point is this you can't really measure based on circumference. Especially because for taller people it's not uncommon for wrosts not to be particularly around but more of an oval shape

So here's how a pebble steel fits me.

Blogger - if you're on macrumors thanks for making the pebble comparison it really helped me.

The black watch is 42mm the white band is 38 ( http://rctechview.blogspot.com/2015/04/pebble-steel-vs-apple-watch.html )

The apple watch 42mm looks a lot smaller than I thought and I don't have big wrists, in fact they're quite small for my height. I think the circumference is around 175-180 but they're flat. That's why I think a lot of measurements are off.

I can't see getting a 38mm

Agreed?

Anyway wouldn't you agree the 42 on my wrist may even look a little small? Based on the comparison photos? Certainly the pebble steel looks ok but the face is a bit small.

Sorry it's riding so low, bracelet is a bit loose and I had to use the iPad for the photo
Well I own the Pebble steel too.
The funny thing is, that the 42 looks like the same size like the pebble but it isnt.
The body of the pebble steel without lugs is 37,5-38mm.

Anyway... 175-180mm is not small at all. You can wear the 42mm without a problem.

Thanks for that detailed comparison. You're right it doesn't look the same in your photos. The measurements I saw for both were 46mm tall for the steel and that apple was measuring it at 42mm tall

I guess I meant small relative to my size. I'm between 6'4-5" 210

That photo really helped me thanks so much

My girlfriend is 4'10" and we were worried the 38 would be too big but doesn't appear so

Do you ever wear your pebble anymore?

you may want to think about getting something like this

I have the anker unit from Amazon. First one died fast but the replacement has worked without a hitch for six months. They're inexpensive and very handy

The 38 will not be too big for your girlfriend. I know someone is gonna hate me for that, but the 38mm is wearable for a kid #

That's alright. Some people have thought she was my daughter when we were walking back to them. :/

When we started dating I was only 5'5" so we didn't see the huge disparity coming

Awe Mapple66, you just had to didn't you?! And I was starting to like you again!
☺️
I just wanted to say that the 38 is not a big watch.
Its a small too normal sized watch which is wearable for women, kids an mens with small wrists.
Plus I have shown that the 38mm is the same size as the pebble steel. You must love me for this #

Funny because the pebble looks to be about the same size as the 42 in your picture.

Yes looks like. I think its because of the round shape of the Apple Watch.
The round shape makes the apple watch looking smaller than it is.
While the Pebble looks like a good size for everyone, i think the 38mm AW looks smaller than the same sized pebble.

38mm Watch ok for my wrist?

Hi all, what do you think, this 38mm works on my wrist or should I go for the 42mm?

38mm feels jewel-like, but does it look under proportioned?

No problems with text readability though.

38 suits you a lot better.

If that was the case, 80% of orders would not have been for the 42

I don't think that's true. I've read that most people that are buying the watch are men, and out of those men, a great percentage of them stayed up late to order one on opening night for themselves. If their wives or girlfriends had ordered for them, I'm sure it would be split more evenly than 80/20.

Its been said many times before
38mm looks ok in many average size photos
42mm Looks HUGE in many average photos

I was really worried that my wrists, approx 180mm would be too small for the 42.

but after using the 42 for 2 weeks its spot on for the size.

the credit card size test is a good one, but posting photos on here is risky as the 38 looks okay, but now I know how it actually is.

for example
My milanese photo looks just too big, BUT it fits fine.
