My adaptor arrived today, so here's my 38mm sport with a standard 22mm wide strap. Looks larger than it did with the sports strap...

I only advice people with wrists larger than 165mm to go with the 42mm. And as I can go with 42 on 150mm I think this is a good advice.

They need to go with what looks best with their body shape, weight, height, hand size, wrist size, arm size and what look they want for their watch. There are a lot of variables.

Looks great!

Smartest comment I've heard about #SizeGate yet! Thank you, well said!

So I have been living with a 42mm SG Sport for the last week, and I love it. But I'm upgrading to a SS after seeing them in person and preferring them. After numerous try ons, I'm going with a 38mm in the SS. I honestly feel like the SS looks bigger than a Sport of the same size. And no, this isn't me just wanting one quicker, I have both sizes ordered in SS and are expected in June. To me, the 42mm SS had a "big watch" look that the Sport didn't, and I personally prefer a smaller looking watch. Wrist size is about 170mm, right in the "could go either way" range. Just my two cents.

I haven't heard to many people going from the 42 to the 38, that's cool. It's whatever works for you. I have a 180 wrist, but it's narrow across the top. I have the 38mm SS BCB and love it! Also have a black sports band ordered and the Click adaptor so I can put any band on. Enjoy your watch!

I have worn the 38 and 42mm over the weekend on my both wrists.
I have 150mm wrists. 50mm with.
Big hands.
Im skinny and 185cm tall.
I have no problem with a smart watch look.

At first I like to say, that I found the 42mm looking better anyway when its off the wrist. In my opinion you get much more apple watch with the 42mm.
The round watch faces looks much better on the 42 because of the bigger screen.
The 38mm looks like a kids or lady watch. I know manny will not agree in this point.

My pros of the 42mm:
- bigger screen with nicer screen to bezel ratio
- higher resolution Display
- battery was much better than my 38mm. With moderate use and heart rate tracking I had 80% at the end of day left.
- bigger texts and touch elements makes it much more useable. I have no glasses needed and have small thin fingers.
- The crown was much more scrollable because the watch is a little more heavier and bigger.
- i found the crown was easier to click too.
- everything on the display says wow too you
- everytime i looked on the 38mm (even while the 42mm has not arrived so far) i had no "wow that looks nice" moment

For me the 42mm is the way to go.
I can only advice anyone to go with 42mm.
At the End its a personal preference.
Someone here wrote that wrist size is not all. It dependa on your whole body shape and specialy your hand size and arm length. You must test out the watches yourself wirhout photos i front of a mirror. Only a mirror can show you how It looks over the day on you.

Right on, for me the 38mm looked like a ladies watch despite me being skinny without large wrists. So I got the 42mm, and it looks brilliant!

I was going to wait until the second gen to get the SS version, but I liked my 38mm sport so much I decided to upgrade to the 38mm SS. Yeah yeah, I know, "way too small."

I'm still waiting for my Sport 42, but all the 38's look fine to me. I'm hoping the 42 won't make me look ridiculous, but big is in these days. Plus, I want to be able to view and touch it with no problems. Time will tell. (no pun) Actually, I had a thought - buy a 38 too - then reality set in.

Not way to small in my opinion, it looks perfect on you!

I'm a 38mm fan, in most cases. Sometimes the 42mm looks good on certain individuals. Just my opinion.

i tried out a friends 42MM and its really really big on my wrist.

i have really skinny wrists, but i wouldnt want to get the 38mm if the screen is too tiny.

like how does the map app compare from the 38mm to the 42mm?

Idiot saying 38 ladies watch. They have plenty of men's rolexs , etc that are 38-40mm you must be new to watches

Welp, we can add me to the undecided category. I've tried on the watches 3 times and usually came away feeling like I wanted the 42, but these forums keep swaying me back to considering the 38. My wrist circumference is nearly 170mm, probably around 167 or 168. I'm a short guy, around 5'3. I find the credit card test to be inconclusive with me, so I'm probably in the B category.

The employee at the Apple store last time I tried them on said he thinks the 38 (classic buckle, oddly the 38 on Milanese looked even smaller to me) looks a little bit better but my wrist could pull either one off, so it was a matter of preference. Looking down on it the 42 looked great, but I have a similar sized/shaped cheap old watch at home that I tried on. Looks cool when I look down at it, but when I glanced in a mirror from a few feet away, it looked huge!! Hahaha.

Anyway, I see guys with humongous watches all the time, but those are usually round mechanical watches, so I don't know if the "big watch" trend translates into the smartwatch black screen territory very well.

I know this is totally an OCD first-world problem, but if I'm going to spend this kind of money on the SS (I just wouldn't feel cool getting dressed up with a Sports model and this will be my only watch, haven't worn one since I was a child) I want it for both its function and it's looks. The big one is nice in so many ways, but I also don't want it to scream "techie" especially when at work I'm trying to get promoted from a tech-leaning job to a more creative one (I'm an assistant editor on TV shows).

I think you answered your own question, go with the 38.

Here's my 38 on my 180mm wrist.

Well i think nobody can help you with that.
In my opinion the 42mm looks ok on my 150mm wrist and at the moment I think I will go with the 42mm. On Monday i send my 38mm back.
I dont think, that the question 38/42mm will affect your job :)
The 38mm doesnt look less like a smart watch in my opinion.
Battery life on the 42 is awesome compared to my 38mm. 38 had 20% left on the end of day and my 42 has as least 60% left, sometimes 70%.
The bigger Screen makes it much more useable and nicer to look at.
More than that, I started thinking to get no Apple Watch and to stay with my pebble steel because I found nothing reall better on the 38mm.
As my 42mm arrived, I had the WOW Effect and started to really use it.
Depending Bandsizing you will not have a Problem with the 42mm.
All band Styles are available to you in a fitting size.

In my opinion with the 38mm you get a stylisch accessoire with the functionality of a Pebble. You cant do much more on it, because the battery drain down so fast...you can watch the % dropping. And for me the screen was so small, I only used it as a Notification Center on my Wrist.
With the 42mm you get a bling bling "Wow" Watch which stands out more.
I found the bigger Screen ver usefull and with the more battery life i didnt get nervous while I use the watch.

You will get any advice here from fitting Perfect too ridiculously too big.
I mean here are people with a 190mm wrist who think that the 38mm looks perfect :D That is ridiculous. But if they like it it is ok...
So for who is the 42mm made, if the 38mm is the perfect fit on a 190mm wrist, which is neraly the biggest wrist I have ever seen?

Sorry for my english, im from Germany

I was the same for weeks trying to decide, but the apple guy at Best Buy helped me decide saying definitely go with the 42 so I did. Will be a month before I get it though. I had the Samsung Gear 1 which is bigger than the 42 so I think I made the right decision. My wrist is bit 172.

Good luck.

This is true. It will have to come down to personal preference, and I'm sure it will have nothing to do with my job prospects, just being silly there. Just gotta weigh the pros and cons of both. Longer battery, the option of the leather loops (kinda dig the blue one). Just gotta decide which one I'd overall feel best about. This is a whole new thing for me since I never wear watches. Thanks for your input!

Oh no kidding? How do you like the functionality vs the Samsung? My android friends are pulling the ol' "Samsung already did it" silliness.

Hey guys! I'm torn on size and feel like I can pull both off. 38 is lighter and cheaper, but the 42mm screen is much better to interact with in person. Which one would you recommend? Thanks, and apologies for the dirty mirror
