After the manual data transfer I tried the on-device eSIM transfer mentioned before—the phone even prompted it—but it failed as it did before.

I went to the AT&T website and used their replace phone option with the BYOD choice, and that worked successfully to transfer the phone number. Nice not having to fuss with someone on what may be a busy phone day.

Make sure the phone has been updated to 17.02 before trying to complete a set up.
This seems to be a solution to a different problem.

Looks like they don’t want you to use the website anymore. I keep getting a pop up that stops me from using the BYOD site.

Make sure you're selecting to transfer your existing line to a new device and not to add another line or switch to ATT. I just, five minutes ago, ran through this with my wife's phone and it still worked fine.

The pop up prevents me from even using the page. The only option I have is to click the Shop button.

For anyone else with ATT, go to their support site and go through the BYOD section; you can transfer your service to your new device pretty painlessly without having to deal with a support person.
How dare you disparage a fine AT&T representative.
Oh, nevermind ☺️🤪

Took me many tries for transfer to work. Had to eventually skip it, keep going through the process, and when it asked again, it worked.

On the other side, my prepaid number transferred over smoothly. That is bonkers that a year later this is still an issue.
Can you please explain how that transfer process works exactly? I also have AT&T prepaid and am on an iPhone 13 Pro and the single reason I don’t upgrade to the 14 Pro and now the 15 Pro is the lack of a sim card tray as I have no idea how I’d transfer my number. Is it a headache? Calling At&t necessary?

I think if you bought phone outright you’ll have to call or do other methods a simple iOS transfer wasn’t working in my case for gf’s iPhone 15 Plus
How did you do it after all? It didn’t transfer with a backup restore through the computer?

I'm getting the same error (AT&T). I've tried multiple times (during setup and afterwards). New phone is nice but I can't take it outside the house with no carrier activated on it.

Spent half an hour with AT&T chat support and I still can't transfer my phone number / plan to my new phone.

Boxing it up to return it on Monday. Debugging Apple/AT&T problems just one more big, unnecessary hassle with setting up a new phone. I'll try again if Apple comes out with a mind-blowing new iPhone that's worth the trouble of dealing with setup bugs (if it even works at all).

When you set up your new phone, there is a step to transfer your eSIM from your old phone to your new phone. It takes about 15-20 seconds, and the new phone will have the phone number and service.

Same issue with two phones. We chose setup later and then from Settings > Cellular the eSIM transferred without issue.

I’m not with AT&T but I had to call in with T-Mobile. Waits about 40 mins then was on the line with the rep for 10 mins. Phone is activated. Transferred everything from a Google Pixel 6a.

Same issue on AT&T. The BYOD site says success, but its been 10 minutes an no notification to my phone.... hmmm

Edit: Nevermind, just popped up and I am good to go.

I finally got my number transfer by powering off first the old phone then the new one then turning them back on.

So I had the same problem.

Called customer service and the updated the IMEI on my account and it worked.

It rocks! Thanks!!

I actually went to att store nearby (when my phone is transferring the data), the agent there didn't sell me the QR esim card. The agent said no need to use that card for the activation...lol

BYOD worked for me earlier this afternoon too.

I am on a corporate account… and I do still have that pesky extra PIN enabled. I wonder if either is the reason for the hiccup?

Either way: this happened when I had to replace my screen on my iPhone last year. Big headache these esims.

Hopefully the process gets easier.
