BYOD worked for me earlier this afternoon too.

I am on a corporate account… and I do still have that pesky extra PIN enabled. I wonder if either is the reason for the hiccup?

Either way: this happened when I had to replace my screen on my iPhone last year. Big headache these esims.

Hopefully the process gets easier.
Quite possibly the reason, because, the whole point of that extra PIN is to help prevent SIM hijacking.

I also have the PIN, couldn't transfer my number to the new eSIM on the phone and had no issues doing it via the BYOD route on the website.

Same here, I had to login to at&t's website and do it manually.

Same I was sitting in the Apple store for 40 mins waiting to speak with someone to help set up my phone. Apple wanted to me do it in store so that I could offically wipe my old iphone 14 pro max since I traded it in. So I remembered this topic and the link to do it manually and it worked. I told the apple employee's about it in case others came in and had the same issue.

Does not work for me, when I try to login it tells me for security a pin has to be sent to my number ending in 0000, how the hell AT&T when I need to activate the darn iPhone and you are trying to send me a security code when I need an eSim

Got new 15 Pro today. It had the wrong # (my wife's #) at the activation screen and would not let me past.

Chatted with ATT, they tried a bunch of things, showed activated on their end but it never worked on my end. They gave me a number to talk to "Advanced tech support". Said wait time would be 18-20mins. Its been nearly an hour on hold.

I tried the ATT BYOD page and it just crashes on me, goes in loops.

I miss when you could just pop the SIM out and in and you'd be gtg. This is a PITA.

I tried to do it on-line and I receive the below message in my account.

Something went wrong
We can’t complete this transaction online. For help, please call us at 800.331.0500 or visit an AT&T retail location.
and there wait time to speak with a rep is over 55 mins.

I had this problem and took to ATT. Took over two hours to solve with multiple factory restorations and multiple e sims. He had to call his own tech support to get it to work

Not a smooth upgrade experience this year but glad we got it done

Wow what a mess ! that is horrible

It’s alright. Looks like a crazy number of people upgraded this year and servers must have been slammed. Many in the store trying to do the same, plus trying to buy new phones cases etc. the workers looked like they had had a looooong day and appreciate their patience

they had to do multiple factory restorations to your iPhone before they got the sim to work?

Apple also took my old phone today without activating the new one. Have been on hold with AT&T for over 2 hours so far. I have tried to do the BYOD trick described above but AT&T won’t let me login without a verification code sent to you, you guessed it, my phone number.
Has anyone encountered this or have any ideas on a path forward?

Yes. I erased The new phone & started over, and it worked the 2nd time. I’m on t-mo.
I’m on my third try
Make sure the phone has been updated to 17.02 before trying to complete a set up.
yup, no dice
I also did. I had to call ATT and they manually activated it on their end. 10 minute call.
my phone is my only phone so i can’t call
Same. Visible was great. Even though I was a silly goose and didn't transfer my eSIM before wiping my old phone for trade in. Chat got me back up and running in under 10 minutes with a new QR code.
:( I had a genius help and no one mentioned anything about esim

eta thank goodness for work phone. Can call but am on hold…

I did Upgrade Program (Apple's) so I had the unlocked phone.

It let me set it up without cellular. I then restored from iCloud backup.

Finally, I went into the cellular and transferred esim from 12 Pro Max after everything else was done (besides loading apps that were still downloading).

Worked without trouble. This was with AT&T.

I feel better that there were others who faced this issue too! I thought I was doing something wrong. I chatted with an AT&T support person and she asked for my new device’s IMEI and then a few minutes later, my iPhone 14 Pro had no more service. I checked my new iPhone 15 Pro and it didn’t have service either. After getting home from dinner, I called AT&T on my partner’s phone and the estimated wait time was over an hour! I checked my iPhone 15 Pro and saw that I could try to add a cellular plan. It said that AT&T was trying to activate a plan. So I said yes and it worked! 😅 Wish I read this post before all this drama. First time since having an iPhone have I had any issues with setting up my new iPhone. 😖

I'm having this problem on an iPhone 15 Pro with Verizon too. The account transfer process failed the first time. It took 2 tries before I was able to transfer the data on my phone. Then when I erased my old phone, my new one didn't activate. It remained a glorified WiFi mini-tablet.

I guess I be calling Verizon to see what's up. Blah. This is why I only upgrade when it's absolutely necessary.

I just noticed a similar thread:

Probably should be merged.

I did not buy an unlocked phone purchased one from apple for my exciting AT&T account and when it was time to move to it the AT&T connected with no problems but also it was like at 9 PM at night not during busy day with servers being slammed. Anyway I am setup and no problems. Looks to me that unlocked phones might have been source of major issue today and a slammed bunch of AT&T servers.

I have been on hold waiting for someone at AT&T customer service to pickup for 4 hours. Support wouldn’t have packed up for the day and left a queue full of customers?! Seems like a very AT&T thing to do, but damn I have never had a company do that to me before.

I was at the Apple Store for about 5 hours for problems with data transfer and not a single person could get their AT&T number to transfer. They were telling them either to wait, go to the store, or change it on the website by typing your IMEI into the BYOD phone transfer page.
