I have the 2.4Ghz Alu MacBook.

No Pro badge. I'm glad I have something which is a little different.

Same here. According to the Geekbench info on iFixit it's still the fastest macbook around, so I'm definitely not complaining.

I upgraded the RAM to 4GB after buying it so it's still immense, It doesn't feel dated at all and it shouldn't.
Same here. Also upgraded the HD to a 7200 rpm Seagate 0,5TB, which admittedly raised the noise levels a bit, but, in some tests i did (File duplication etc.) i noted a 30-35% speed increase over the default 250GB drive.

Bought it used a few months ago, some scratches on the bottom, but otherwise pristine (incl. 99% battery) for 650€.

I've tried to compare the screen to the MBA screen my wife and to the MBP13" screen of a friend I see no significant difference. So I'm ignorant of what everybody's whining about.

I've used professional grade dSLR's for 9 years, and I have never had any use for a SD slot, so I'm not whining bout that either. A FW port is not high on my list of priorities. Considering how easy it is to extract the HD and (put it in a docking station if needed) I do not miss the target disk mode option, but i acknowledge some might.

As it's purely for mobile needs (I have an i7 for the heavier lifting) I'm ecstatic about the machine. I suspect Apple won't release anything which makes me want to replace this baby for at least three years (assuming it does not break).

hate to ressurect a dead thread...but anyway:

My wife and I just got matching CE macbooks (from a guy that fixes computers and stuff). The only distinguishing mark between them is that mine has "MacBook Pro" on the bezel. Now I assure you it is a CE model - does this mean I have the Newer/Better screen??? That'd be pretty swank. I didn't realize they might be different, I'll have to compare to the wife's when I get home from work.

It means that you have the PRO version of the 13" MB. The Alu 13" get the title PRO to difference it from the polycarbonate MB.

I recommend you to download the program mactracker and there compare your both models basen on your model identifier under system information

EDIT:
BTW congrats on the best MB over made aka :apple: MB Unibody ALU Collectors Edition :D

Collector here...

Eventually, the "Aluminum MacBook" will be collectible over the "average plastic" one (the new "plastic" one is Unibody) - but not for a while (I say 10 years give or take).

Just keep at the box/packing/information so it's CIB (Complete-In-Box)... ;)

My girlfriend owns a "collector's edition" MacBook, but if I was to buy anything it'd be a G4 cube. Or an Apple Lisa.

Cube's are awesome, I'd recommend one. The prices have come down on eBay and RAM is cheap. The only problem are the G4 upgrades, but if you find a good one. It'll last you for another ten years.

I dont have a MBP - system ID in says MacBook5,1. same as the wife's- the innards are definitely CE, its just the screen that isn't.

So I assume it does not have FireWire, unlike the 13" aluminum MBPs.

You can tell what screen you have by going to System Preferences->Displays, click on Color then Open Profile. Select line #13 'mmod'. That will show you the screen model. For example my 13" aluminum MB has model 9C8C. Not all of them had the same screen.

Correct, no FireWire. Model ID for mine is 9CA0. The wife's says 9CA8.

I've got 2 of these...

I have two collector's edition macbook's. My is the 2.4ghz with backlit keyboard and my wife's is the 2.0ghz. I am looking to sell one because we don't need 3 macs in the house. I'll probably just replace one of them with an iPad.

How much can I get for this? Is it seriously a collector's item to some? I have original boxes and documentation for both of the macs.

Not really a collectors item. We got ours for $300 but I think you could probably sell one in good condition with original box for somewhere in the range of 6-$800. This site says 900+ http://www.everymac.com/systems/app...-2.4-aluminum-13-late-2008-unibody-specs.html

if you're seriously thinking of trading it for iPad, I have an iPad 16gig 3G that I'm thinking of trading it to macbook. :)

I really do love my CE MacBook. I got it in December 08 and it has been a total trooper ever since. My love for my PC rapidly faded when confronted with the MB in all of its glory.

The latest software updates (hello inertial scrolling and three finger drag...) have meant that I still see no need to upgrade it, and probably wont until well after the Applecare runs out. Come this september I am getting the 27" Cinema Display for it, and probably considering bumping the ram to 4GB. I am also keeping an eye on SSD's and when 500GB reaches a reasonable price, I will be adding one of those to this as well.

I got my CE aluminium unibody on the 21st oct '08! It came out the 14th and I just couldn't get a hold of one for a week! Ever since I got it it's been going strong! I love it! Not had any serious problems. :) I seriously think it'll last me until 2012 and onwards! :D I'm going to use it till it's on it's very last legs or until I need something more powerful, but I doubt it as does everything perfectly. Basic web surfing, downloading music/films via iTunes, music playback/creation, photo editing :) Only things it struggles with is HD footage. It'll get the job done but gets very hot and takes a long time while handling HD.

As much as I love my alu-macbook I think when the time to upgrade comes it'll be an iMac this time! I'm guessing time 2012 comes iMacs will have specs of about 3.4ghz/8gb/2tb standard for about the price I bought my MacBook in '08 :)

How many of you CE Unibody Macbook owners have upgraded to snow leopard?
How has the kitty treated you?
