That happens in the same manner as an artist declaring one of his works a work of art. Once it's declared art, let the price speculations begin. Things are worth as much as people or galleries are worth paying for them. So in a way I do think it's perfectly sound when we declare the unibody MacBook a collector's edition. The only difference with a work of art being that we didn't actually make the MacBook. But that's just a technicality, really.Since when does declaring something yourself to be a collectors item make it so?![]()
I love this whole "collectors editition" thing. This is rich! But seriously, in a couple of years your cheap "collectors edition" macbooks will be viewed as dinosaurs such as the G3 clamshell. But hey, whatever makes you sleep at night.
honestly, what are you going to with an old macbook, when you get a new one? its illogical to spend money on a "collectors edition" computer that was never really state-of-the-art and its only claim to fame was that it had the word "Pro" ommited from the bezel? At the rate apple's going, you might not even be able to run OS X 10.7 on it.
There is nothing wrong with having a cost effective machine, but it is silly and necessary to give it a special name.

Nice fix there buddy
Your facts (before the edit) were totally off...
Haha I saw that oneGotta love the truth behind the post that was in the e-mail I got from being subscribed to the thread.
hehe.. yeah every once in a while, i just cant help myself and i HAVE to call some ppl out![]()
Yeah, I know exactly what you mean
But back on topic. Sure this is becoming very widespread as jav said, but you know we're very proud and satasfied with calling our MacBooks "Collector's Editions," I'm sure we can all agree on that.![]()
It's pretty nifty actually.
However, I don't need to call it any special edition or anything in order to realize that it's still a GREAT computer. I was playing with a 2.26 UMB Pro today, and it didn't really impress me that much. I for one HATE the Card Slot, and LOVE LOVE the simplicity of the ports on my UMB.
That's just me thoEVerybody has the right to their own opinion. I LOVE my UMB and it's been consistently amazing since day 1! Still kickin' butt

Right on
Only thing I've doubted was not having the backlit keyboard... but honestly I survive fine without it, I rarely ever use my MacBook in the dark.
Sure, it's a great computer, but I don't know why you would "HATE" the card slot. The only compromise made was the joining of the audio in and out jacks into one, so unless that's a negative for you, I don't know why you would hate an extra feature. It's pretty nifty actually.

I've become VERY used to my lit keys
That's another thing I absolutely love about my mac.
EDIT: But i'm glad you're fine without the lit keys. I've gotten so used to mine, that I have a hard time using a regular keyboard even in daylight..
Yeah well I guess if you get the lit keys, there's never going back!
The unibody MB was out from October 08 to June 09 which is about 8 months. The PCI Graphics G4 was only out for 4 months and B&W G3 was only out 8 months as well. Sorry to say, the B&W still isn't a collectors item and I don't think the PCI G4 will ever be either.Just curious, has there ever been a shorter lived Apple computer?![]()

haha, i actually thought about the same thing. idk if it will become a collectors item, but im pretty annoyed at the moment, i feel like my computer is completely outdated and its not even a year old...

Yeah, see, thats the thing though....no it's not! not even a little bit, oh im sorry it has an sd card slot. but its internals are exactly the same, same old core 2 duo, same nvidia, same standard ram, and a tiny little processor bump. NOTHING CHANGED, just the name. thats why im not upgrading now, im waiting for the i7 because this is just an idiotic name change.
