Seeing the solidarity and brotherhood of the CE owners in this thread almost makes me regret not opting for the UMB on sale at MacMall for $925 (AMIR), and getting the MBP 13 instead. Although, trying to "buy my way into the brotherhood" at a discount would have made me a poseur anyway. :)

Apple needs to come out with an Aluminum Model MacBook that will be anodized in White, Black, Teal, Blue, Orange and maybe some other colors, it would be cool to see like their older Macs and notebooks back in the early to mid 1990's.

I purchased my uMB 2.4 in Feb of 2009, I originally bought the 2.53 Pro model but at $2499 it was too much $ and the uMB 2.4 was all I needed at $1599.

They could actually drop the Polycarbonate model all together because the new Pro 13" MacBooks are cheap enough, they could actually take the low end 13 now and price drop it to $999

I am not sure they will keep the Whote MacBook around thru the next Generation because it seems they are headed toward all Unibody versions, but it will be interesting to see what comes out this fall, however I love my

Unibody MacBook from early 2009 with the 2.4CPU/4GB Ram/320GB HDD 7200RMP with 16MB Cache. I am getting between 4-5 hours of use on 167 battery cycels so I am pleased. All my friends with Windows Notebooks are lucky if they get 2.5-3 hours of usage before connecting it to an outlet.

All I have left to do it purchase Applecare before February 2010 so my MacBook Classic will be good for 2 more years of Bliss...

Wait... are you telling me the only MacBooks now are the whites? All aluminum ones are MacBook Pros? How much did the price go up from aluminum MacBook to MacBook Pro?

And I was just about to pitch the MacBook aluminum to my friend.

Excuse me, I guess I mean Unibody when I say aluminum.

The prices are the same. Less actually. Cause the 2.53 comes w/ 4GB or RAM, and i had to pay and Extra 70$ to upgrade to that. and HDD is bigger so that is an extra cost as well if i wanted to upgrade. 1tb here i come. Almost have enough saved for that.

Sign me up too... LOL. Just bought one from a BestBuy as a closeout for $819.99. w00t! Glad I didn't get burned like some of you...

The LP133WX2 LCDs that sit in 90% of these that are in circulation are god awful, and they have no firewire port/expresscard slot.

Like the Sega CD, this will be short lived, and not remembered.

Sorry duder, none of the 13" have ExpressCard. The new ones got the SD card, but that's it.

I have one of those "limited edition" MB's :D which I got from the UK higher education store in Sept 08. Didn't see the reason to upgrade to the 13" MBP offering, I have mine connected to an ACD LED 24", has 4GB RAM which is perfectly fine for my day to day tasks and more. I also use memory stick pro duo which is Sony specific rendering the SD useless.

I don't even see mine as its tucked away, http://www.imranmohammed.com/mac/3.jpg - http://www.imranmohammed.com/mac/4.jpg

The unibody MB was out from October 08 to June 09 which is about 8 months. The PCI Graphics G4 was only out for 4 months and B&W G3 was only out 8 months as well. Sorry to say, the B&W still isn't a collectors item and I don't think the PCI G4 will ever be either.

Don't forget the iMac G5 iSight that was only available for 3 months (October 2005 to January 2006).

As far as I know, these aren't going for a fortune on eBay and neither are the aluminium MacBooks. ;)

I'm actually damn pleased I got the uMB before the change to the Pro.

Although I wouldn't mind the FW of the MBP I couldn't be doing with the combined audio In/Out. That would seriously hamper me with certain tasks!

Also. . . I've never understood all the bitching about the screens on these Macbooks. It's the best screen I've ever had on a laptop. Certainly better than my previous iBooks and MacBooks.

The screens depend on which model you get, what you do with it, and your expectations. I had a late 08 2.0 uMB with a 9c89, and it was truly awful for a $1300 computer with its limited viewing angle and poor contrasts. For word processing, it was great. Movies, not so much. When a friend opens up a $3-400 netbook and you catch yourself ogling his screen, you know you got punked by apple.

It differs from model to model. I picked up a second hand 2.4 uMB with a 9c88 screen right before the 13" MBPs came out, and I can accept it.

Made out like a Bandit!

It is 12-11-09 and instead of spending alot of extra money on a 13' macbook pro,i went to ebay and got me a brand New still sealed 13" aluminum collectors macbook with a 2.40ghz processor and 250gb HD with the nividia 9400 graphics for $1000! still under warranty!,now why the heck would i want to get the other just cause it says macbook pro on it? and with only 2.26ghz and 160 HD? I think i got one heck of a deal!:D

My Collector Edition Mackbook 13" 2.40ghz,250gb HD,nividia 9400 256mb shared graphics
iphone 3GS 16gb White

I have the 2.4Ghz Alu MacBook.

No Pro badge. I'm glad I have something which is a little different.

I upgraded the RAM to 4GB after buying it so it's still immense, It doesn't feel dated at all and it shouldn't.

I have a collector's item, too. :) But, I just bought mine a couple weeks ago. LOL. Personally, I like the look of the Aluminum model better. A friend of mine that works for Apple scored me a deal on a refurb (lower end model) for $600. I love it! For my needs, I can see it lasting me a long time.

This is the most ridiculous thread I have ever read. Our Macbooks are not and never will be collector editions or anything special. They were a 1st generation product that got an update that changed their name.

Maybe you missed the tongue-in-cheek-ness of the whole thing. ;)

Still the fact that they were only sold for about seven months means that in a few years you won't see many of them around. Whether that makes them somehow special is a personal opinion.

Somehow, I think you're missing the few people who are raving and taking this quite seriously

In a few years, if someone wants one, I'm betting it will have the little Pro at the end of the name. Even then, in a few years, you'll be able to get much better for probably barely more on the used market. Resale value isn't eternal.

Really, aren't you speaking seriously? Because i was VERY happy thinking that Apple did offer me a great item which value will increase continuously.

But, anyway, i am one of the owners of this GREAT Macbook, and i don't think that it were wrong for me to buy it. I bought the right Mac for me on the right moment that i need it, and i wouldn't change it for a MBP 13"
