haha, i actually thought about the same thing. idk if it will become a collectors item, but im pretty annoyed at the moment, i feel like my computer is completely outdated and its not even a year old...

Does it run sessions in Logic 8 any slower than it did when you bought it?

Does it encode x264 video any slower than it did when you bought it?

Does it load websites any slower than it did when you bought it?

nah rossmann, but it does load them slower than the new macbook pro. which has a 7 hour battery and backlit keyboard for $100 cheaper that i want...

The "old" unibody model came out over eight months ago.

If you can't deal with the idea of a new model being released every six months, you will either be replacing your computer every six months or never buying one.

I gotta hand it to the people who believed that something like this was going to happen... I for sure did not believe it, until I visited the apple website today in the morning! Holy! =O

As for the 'collectors edition' thing, it probably has the potential to become one years down the line, though at the moment the amount of people selling their macbooks to get the new 13" MBPs will kill the scarcity factor a little bit.

You know, I actually think that people are gonna be looking at it funny in a couple of years, having forgotten the 8 month time-window in which our macbooks were sold... I'll probably have a new computer by then, but I'll keep this one and take it out from time to time to observe reactions

I'm sure I'll be hearing some interesting comments when the time comes.

Im kinda new to the Mac world but thats kinda outta character of Apple isnt it? (what they did with this MacBook? Such a short life span)

Haha see thats what Im saying.. Its a cool/positive way to look at something that would otherwise bum you out!

the only thing I'm bummed about is the better screen quality, other than that I could care less if it doesn't say Pro. I am going to buy Apple Care on this one and when something goes wrong , uh oh new macbook pro  but for now I like my COLLECTOR'S EDITION :D

Exactly. Sure the screen would be nice to have and everything but it's not the end of the world.
I dont have anything against the 13" Pro. If I didnt have the CE I would buy a new Pro. Im just happy with what I have...Simple as that.

I'm not too good with mac history myself (which might be an embaressing confession since I've been using macs since the macintosh performa days), so it did strike me as an inconsistency as well. The fact that the white macbook wasn't updated at the same time as the rest of the lineup was refreshed struck me as a tad strange too.

Yes Guys thats so cool!

i am pretty bummed out about this. I want that 8GB upgradability and SD card slot!

Yea Apple seems to be taking things in different directions now I guess.
A full update across the whole line at the same time woulda been a logical thing.
Unless they really are trying to kill off the WhiteBook!?..:
1.Drop the price first on the WhiteBook to clear out some units.
2.Then Update it, clear out even more units.
3.THEN release updates on the rest of the line (AKA what happened today)

I never thought of that before but that^ kinda makes sense!?

NO DOUBT!!! :D

I bet "Collectors Edition" will be a regular term around here by the end of the week!

The fate of the macbook lineup puzzles me. The fact that the only computer representing this lineup now is the white macbook (the design of which is almost stone-age now, judging by how quickly computer designs get refreshed), is puzzling. I refuse to believe they'll keep the design for a lot longer. In my mind there are two options

1.) Update the white macbook, give it a different shell and continue on with it as the only one in the lineup.
2.) Introduce another macbook to the lineup, like maybe a blackbook comeback?

If they got rid of it completely, the famous macbook lineup would be entirely gone, and their laptop range would consist entirely of 'pro' computers. Might happen, though it's strange for sure.

Another thought just occurred to me... this forum might get a whole lot less crowded now that the white one's the only option!

I was just thinking earlier that if they do keep the WhiteBook around it would probably be smart to bring the BlackBook back as well. At least let people feel like they have some kind of choice in the "Non-Pro" department.

Yeah, though it seems strange anyway. To ditch the blackbook and replace it with the unibody macbook, then ditch the unibody and bring the blackbook back to the lineup. If that happened I'd be officially confused

How do you guess the macbook lineup will continue on?
