Unicode Consortium Delays Emoji 14 Update for Six Months, Emoji 13 Characters Not Affected

What’s amazing about it? The Unicode Consortium is a worldwide organization. They don’t have any obligation to cater to you or any particular country, including the US.
Ummm that’s the women only elevator. 🤣Luckily, we already have the THIS ELEVATOR IS FOR MEN ONLY emoji, which comes in handy quite often.
What are you both talking about?? There is no such thing as 'men' or 'women'! That is clearly a zhe-only elevator!
The comments on this site about anything emoji-related are always so annoyingly predictable. We get it, you’re high and mighty because you hate on emoticons.
Apple usually has a minimalist design language and their emojis while not exactly baroque aren’t very minimalist.
The majority of people here do not get overly excited about new emojis. Instead, more often than not, we care about Apple hardware and software.
Well, finally. One good thing has come about as a result of the pandemic. Sadly, the new emoji weren't scrapped entirely. But we can't have everything.
Ok, but not getting too excited about emojis is a far cry from having disdain for them.
So, by your logic, all the angst about them is signaling the commenters' lack of virtue.
Gotta say, this seems to line up...
It’s good you understand that diversity, inclusion and acceptance are virtuous. But the companies themselves don’t decide which emojis to add, it’s the Unicode Consortium. So the comment is best directed at them, not the companies themselves.
It wasn't removed, all companies decided to make it a water pistol instead because idiotic judges were ruling that people using the gun emoji in messages constituted a threat. This is one of MANY cases: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...minal-charges-for-using-emoji-shes-not-alone/
And also just an FYI you will see the water pistol in the article since the browser renders it with current emoji.
I have no problem with having diverse emojis for every occasion, but at some point can we start to allow user disabling for some emojis? Finding the right emoji is too time consuming as it is. Not worth it sometimes.

Example: The Unicode Consortium added a pistol. Here's the re-interpretation that took place:
I wanted a pistol. I guess I only get a water pistol now.
Yeah, like I really need an emoji with a guy in a wedding dress!
Instead of focusing on more emojis (there are already too many), they should complete the subscripts and subscript categories with Latin and Greek letters, people has been asking for them for decades.
Ah Unicode... the once respected consortium behind a global standard. How far it’s fallen!
It doesn’t get any less ridiculous with every new batch. Quite the opposite. People are entitled to express their opinion, and there appears to be a majority (here) of the opinion that it’s over the top with no end in sight.
What is their end game?
So as sure as Unicode will release yet more batches of unnecessary pictographs (they’ve gone way beyond emoticons after all) people will call them out on it, and so they should!
