Apple is a pretty big company. They need to sit down with Walmart and work through it.

There is no 'working through it' in this instance. It isn't about money, because in my area anyone from the smallest mom-and-pops grocer takes NFC (therefore ApplePay) to very large chains that we are all familiar with. The reason Target, Kroger, and especially Walmart have no intention on caving is data. Privacy invading data analytics, pure and simple. And that is why ApplePay is at an impasse.

question: i have paid with my contactless (europaen) visa multiple times at walmart.
so if I would add my visa to apple pay - walmart would accept it, right?

Walmart has tap-capable POS machines in Canada, but they refuse to enable them because of this.

They're the only place I shop that doesn't allow it. Absolutely ridiculous.

I Appreciate the convenience of contactless payment technology offered like everyone else does, but that doesn’t mean that I need to stray away from a store just because they don’t offer a certain service. I don’t shop Walmart in particular, but I don’t have an issue supporting them either regardless if they have Apple Pay or not. They are just another vendor like all the other stores in my area, I’m shopping for what I *need*, not to boycott a retailer because they don’t offer XYZ Service. To each their own.

As much as I'd love Walmart to support Apple Pay (I shop there as there simply isn't an alternative close to my home), I'm not delusional enough like some on here to think that them not supporting Apple Pay will have any material impact on them. Of those that already shop at Walmart, I'm willing to bet less then .01% of people will stop shopping because of the lack of Apple Pay support.

Look out superior people that *don't shop at Walmart*!

That condescension looks good on you. Really.

I shop at Walmart. I'd prefer a Target (just like Target's layouts more), but at the end of the day I shop at whoever is closest to my house. Just occasionally need some groceries and TP to buy so I can take a dump at home. Thankfully, I don't have a soapbox or high horse to climb.

People here take it for granted that they have the choice to go "out of their way" to shop at places that accept Apple Pay. And you act as if the people who shop at Walmart are all incompetent slobs who don't know how to manage money.

I have a word for you: we're just barely making it by managing our money and shopping at discount stores. Not everyone has the luxury of living in a stare where the minimum wage is $15, and I'd argue that some of us wouldn't want to.

Controlling payments, incentives/coupons, and associated customer data collection is a REALLY BIG DEAL to a retailer like Walmart or Target, both of whom operate in razor thin profit margins and have to continuously battle Amazon. Both of these companies are very successful right now, and have strong customer followings. They have no reason at all to open up to Apple Pay and every reason not to. Likewise, Apple has no reason at all to modify the terms of Apple Pay to satisfy these retailers.

This pretty much means no hope whatsoever of Apple Pay being accepted at either for quite a while. If they ever do open up to it, the longer they hold out, the more customers will be sucked into their proprietary systems and then most won't bother to switch to Apple Pay.

Sorry, it's just reality. I use Apple Pay whenever I can, and see much more widespread adoption than before, but I've accepted that a few of the big guys are going to be holdouts for some time.

No offense to you personally or people who are barely making it by (as I used to be one of these people for many many years (wife and I had to work two jobs each for awhile just to barely afford rent, food, college))...

But I can't help noticing your usage of "We're just barely making it by" - including yourself in that ---- and your signature: " 2016 MacBook Pro  12.9" iPad Pro (second generation)  128GB Jet Black iPhone 7 Plus  Watch Series 3 Nike+ (GPS + Cellular) w/ Anthracite/Black Nike Sport Band  TV (fourth generation) (64GB)  TV 4K (32GB) "

:p

And I have "no plans" to ever walk into a Wal Mart on principle of them holding back the advancement of a consumer-friendly tech.

Plenty of other, better stores just like it.
I also have no plans to shop at Walmart, though mostly that's just because I hate their entire retail experience from beginning to end. Accepting Apple Pay wouldn't really change that. ;)

That's silly so you're willing spend more money on the principle that using or not using apple pay is advancing consumer friendly tech? Given that Apple a trillion dollar company that doesn't really care about you, just your money, I'd rather save my money and find the best deal

Having used Walmart Pay, I find it clumsy and cumbersome to use. Hell, it doesn't even leave the screen on during the QR code scanning process and if your screen locks, you've got to unlock the Walmart Pay portion of the Walmart app to resume the payment process.

I also don't like the fact that my payment information is on their servers. All it takes is one data breach for everybody's Walmart Pay-associated cards (and gift cards) to be leaked to every yayhoo on the web.

Like I explained to someone else a long time ago... things aren't always as they seem, so don't judge the book by its cover.

Just because I spend my money foolishly on consumer technology doesn't mean that my parents don't work their asses off so I have that ability. Fyi, the Mac is a loaner, the iPhone was bought at 1/2 price, and I used my student refund last semester to purchase the iPad.

Basically, all my current Apple devices were on very decent sales when they were purchased. So no, everything isn't as it seems.
