Ok say what are the fees that i must pay before i end up paying 10 dollars a month? and what are the phones under 50 dollars i can use to set it up? Thanks

You should read the thread carefully, it is all spelled out there from the first post to several people comments.

For those having problems running the free HTC wifi router software - try reinstalling the latest stock ROM for your phone and the installing the HTC wifi router. That fixed the problem I was having where my iPad could connect to the router but had no internet.

Thanks for the update I just bought a used HTC touch pro 2 yesterday, can you give me any hints on how to update the phone to the latest stock firmware

I used this site in my process to get the unlimited data for $.35/day. You should also check out Howardforums.com.

I'm also not using the web everyday, only when traveling and the kids need to get online or if the power goes out in the house, we can use this to get internet on our laptops. For $.35 a day, it's worth it. I certainly am not taking advantage of the unlimited data.

I couldn't find it on Howardforums. Can you share a link? I really want to try this.
Thanks!

I found the latest ROM for my phone (HTC Diamond) on the support section of the HTC website. I downloaded it and followed the directions on the website. It did require Windows, and I had problems doing it from VMware, so I booted directly to my boot camp partition and it worked fine. The whole process took about 10min.

thanks so much for this suggestion. it worked, and now i am using htc wifirouter and won't have to spend another $30 for wmwifirouter app. and i kind of think download speed faster even.

How to turn off web access?

One thing to note: I do go into my account and turn the web access flag off when I know I'm not going to use it for the day... It's been available to deactivate it each time I've wanted to and when unchecked, I don't get charged.

Where do you see the web access flag in your account? I'm not able to find anything like that?

Thanks!

I finally tried this, got a palm treo 850 via ebay and signed up with Sprint2boost.com and the guy over there is extremely helpful, it turns out my palm I got for $23 was already modified to be used on Cricket and so Shane from Sprint2Boost helped me through via email (plus me nosing around online found a way to do it) but Shane was there throughout. So finally got it up and running with wmwifirouter (tested the trial) it works well, a bit slower than mywi though... (I can't use mywi anymore as my iphone is now using the beta ios5 7, which is having a hardtime when tried to jailbreak, and yes, I'm a developer).

So, ipad2 and iphone does connect with the phone, but not with HP Touchpad, they are not compatible with advoc type network :(

Now that was done, I'm going to cancel my mifi device and use this instead, cheaper. :)

AS for the option to check off for web access it's shows in your boost account, when you click on change plan and it shows there, disable it and then save.

I haven't used my Boost Mobile phone in a while. I went today to activate the Wireless Web and see they went from $0.35 a day to $.50 a day. I'm hoping to use this a lot the next couple of months if coverage is good enough where I'll be. I'll find out this weekend.

So is this still working well for everyone? Im very interested in setting something like this up. Has anyone from the San Francisco area done this?
Ive never used sprint so Im trying to see if the speeds are worth it or just sign up for At&t tethering, which I would prefer to pass on compared to this setup if speeds are decent.

Same here. It said 0.50/day but the confirmation email said $0.50/mo is that a month or day?

And I used it today at a meeting sadly my palm treo 850 only lasted 3 hours battery life. So I just ordered a new battery to replace the old one.

Can anyone confirm that this still works?

Looking to try this with a HTC Mogul, but want to make sure it will work before spending the money to set it up.

Yeah, mine definitely went up to $.50 for every day you use it. But it looks like I don't have to worry about it any longer. I went a few weeks ago to add money to my Boost account. I thought it sucked that $10 was the lowest denomination you could add since I already had $20 in there and rarely used it. So I didn't add anything and this past Monday my account expired. It doesn't really matter. I never found a place that picked up a good enough signal for it to actually work for me. If anyone wants to buy a Palm Treo Pro in great condition let me know.
