The robostars folks seem dead in the water. I have emailed and texted them regarding the dead link for the MIFI 2200 reflash and they have failed to respond with a fix date or any other helpful response.

Anyone know of any other folks who can reflash the MIFI?

HTC diamond versus Palm Treo Pro vs other.

Any opinions of whether I should get an HTC diamond versus Palm Treo Pro for this? On ebay, used diamonds seem to go for about $70is while the Palms are $40-50. I would only be using it in the manner the OP stated - just as a tether to the IPad. Batter life better in one? Other suggestions in the price range?

I got a palm treo on ebay for about $25, and I think they have more.

Now I have the data set up for about $10 per month.

I can use easy sms for free messages.

I cannot find a way to get free calls though. Google voice is good but it requires a call out, and a call in for work and that is a cost on the pay as you go plan......

Billinaz, I appreciate the earlier offer but I found out someone here at work has a Sprint Treo Pro 850 that they aren't using any longer. They are going to bring it to me this week and let me have it for free.

Couple of questions:

1) With my Treo Pro, is wmwifirouter going to be my only option? I guess I don't mind paying the money if it's going to work since the phone didn't cost me anything.

2) If I only end up using this say 10 days during the month, is my total for that month going to be $3.50 or will it be $10.50?

How long did it take to get the activation email?

wmwifirouter was the only thing that I found that worked.

You get charged .35 a day, even if you dont use the data. Still not bad for that price.

I used the method the other poster did for 3 three phones set up on boost mobile. I used an esn from the borrow/swap thread and then called 30 minutes prior to boost mobile closing time and got them activated. Cost was only $12 each to get them set up. Once you learn the system, its not bad.

If a rep tells you they dont activate Palm phones, hang up and try again. Just keep your description of the phone vague (like say the phone says sprint on it)

Good luck.

Thanks for the information. I thought you would be charged $10.50 a month regardless but read something on another forum that was confusing. I'll probably just use the sprint2boost method the OP used since I don't have a phone on boost already. Unless you are saying it's possible to do without already having one with them.

All set up.. Using wmwifirouter... Works a gem

I am still confused as to wether Sprint2boost.com is necessary

Should I look for any Sprint phone? (I have access to an instinct) No android? Only Winmobile? reflash necessary? HTC and Palm phones possible? Become Boost customer first? Can I buy a boost top-off card, borrow an esn on Howards board, and call Boost for activation without having a boost phone of any kind?

Can someone provide step by step instructions to help an old man out? tremlock? billinaz?

The thread started out with a Sprint2boost.com recommendation, but being a cheap ass I don't want to send them money if I can do it myself.

Many have posted they were able to activate a sprint phone by themselves without the intervention of Sprint2Boost.

I tried calling once....got shot down nearly immediately. Instead of trying potentially over and over I simply decided to pay up to S2B. Could I have gotten it activated on the second call? Maybe. But maybe not as well. I just wanted to be done & moving forward.

Unless they "back bill" at the end of the month, I'm not being charged 35 cents each & every day. I'm only being charged the 35 cents on the days I've used it.

I used the sprint2boost method. You will get an activation email with step by step instructions. After that I changed plans on boost's website to pay as you go. Searched for wmwifirouter and downloaded it right on the phone.

That's good to hear. I'll only be using this for emergencies or when I travel so that's maybe 10 times a month, most likely less than that. If they do backbill you at the end of the month, let us know.

Unlimited data plan in UK £15 a month

In case anyone is looking for a good data plan i'm using 3 mobile on pay as you go, when you top up £15 and convert it to a ‘plan’ thing you get 300 voice 3000 texts and all you can eat data for a month, i'm using it on my now very old Nokia N95 8GB to give out a wifi hot spot for use with my iPad and it works really well with no problems at all. :apple:

One thing to note: I do go into my account and turn the web access flag off when I know I'm not going to use it for the day... It's been available to deactivate it each time I've wanted to and when unchecked, I don't get charged. When I re-activate the web access, $0.35 is deducted quickly after and then again just after midnight each day until unchecked.

So...if I activate access at 2:00pm, I'll get charged 35 cents. Then 10 hours or so later just after midnight I'll get charged 35 cents again. The 35 cent charge then continues to deduct just after midnight until deactivation.

One thing I've noticed is that when I deactivate the web access feature, I sometimes have internet for several days even though I deactivated it. No charges have appeared for those other days.

Worked for two days now I can't get the iPad or iPhone to connect

Still working for me. I have the Mogul and use wmwifirouter also. I've been using for 3 weeks or so and my iPad and laptop connect every time. I don't have an iPhone.

is everyone using wmwifirouter instead of htc wifirouter suggested by op? i got an htc mgul off ebay, and like a few others here, cannot get any of my devices to see the wifi created by htc wifirouter. has anybody figured this out yet?

I had issues with connectivity using the htc wifirouter. I had used wmwifirouter in the past without issue so I installed that. It has worked perfectly since.

I Dont know what happened, it worked great day one with wmwifirouter, now I can't get it to connect for anything.

I would suggest re-configuring the wmwifirouter settings. Setting it up again may clear possible corruption. You may also try deleting the app and re-installing. If both of those efforts fail, it's going to be difficult to diagnose through a forum. It could be hardware and/or it could be software.

Can you access the internet through the phone's browser? If not, wmwifirouter isn't going to have any internet access to route.

Also, is the version of wmwifirouter a paid app or is it one you downloaded from somewhere for "free"? Sometimes the "free' apps aren't what they are cracked (haha) up to be!

Apparently there is an outage in my area, I'll keep updating as things happen
