Just bought Mac mini, so I'm hoping new model will come in a distant future )

It really only gets crazy if you’re trying to do like 8GB of SSD 😆
True. I don't want/need 8TB of SSD storage. I was opting in for a 4TB SSD with all the bells and whistles which comes up to $5,500 usd. During COVID stay-home orders, I purchased a M1 Mac Mini have to honestly say, APPLE has gone into HYPER mode with these new chips. Pretty amazing stuff. Even if Apple announces a new M1 Mac Mini, I'm not sure how much more they can improve it because it's already a blazing fast machine. <--- What I'm trying to say is, anyone that purchases an M1 Mini now will be fine.

No joke - my development “workstation” right now is a M1 MacBook Air hooked up to a ProDisplay XDR. It’s unbelievable how quick it is.
I can think of a lot of more exiting stuff, like seeing my girlfriend after 3 years, yes...3 years.

Can't afford one this year, maybe next year.
Congrats, that’s a milestone! I’m speaking from the perspective of those of us sitting at home slowly waiting for the world to get back on its feet and using our computers daily!

So, off topic, but Microsoft has released pricing for Windows 365 - who wants to try running Windows on their new 14-inch or 16-inch MacBook Pros later this fall?
Not that I would even pay $10 for this, but my God these prices are highway ****ing robbery.

$105 for 16GB RAM / 512 GB storage? I've had my computer (with exactly those specs) for 4+ years so I would have paid at least $5,040 for this piece of junk. LOL ok, Microsoft must be banking on the clueless market.

I really hope it doesn't take that long, because as per Gurman:

Looking ahead, Gurman says that the new MacBook Pros with more “M1X” processors are still on track for a release in the “coming months,” while a new high-end Mac mini will come “soon after that.”

"soon after that" better not translate to 2022.
All anyone is getting this year is going to be the 14” and 16” M1X MBPs. The Mac mini will be end of Q1/2022.

I've held off on updating for quite a while now. Will be going from an iPhone 6s (still going strong) and a 2016 MacBook (still great) to an iPhone 13 Pro and 14" MacBook Pro this fall. Given how well these devices have lasted me I fully expect these new devices to serve me well.

Might even sell my Series 6 Apple Watch for a Series 7 just for the hell of it. Also hope to get the 3rd gen AirPods.

Wife is upgrading her iPhone 8 to the 13 Mini too.

Lots of $$$ in upgrades here too. There's been a drought in good Macs since 2015 and I'm absolutely ready to go to Face ID because of the pandemic.

Can’t wait to have a laptop where I’m not accidentally selecting crap on a useless dumb Touch Bar. I am ready to ditch my current 16” for the new one if these rumors are true.

Out of curiosity what about the pandemic makes Face ID on a mac more desirable?

I'd like Face ID in an iPhone. I have a 7+.

I'm constantly wiping down the machines in the gym after I use them and Touch ID doesn't work with wet fingers. I record my workouts on my phone using Garmin Connect.

Personally I prefer TouchID over FaceID. For me I want that sweet Qualcomm X60 chip, 120Hz OLED and the wickedly fast 5nm A15 chip.

My 2016 MacBook has served me well but when I bought it I had a monster liquid cooled PC for demanding tasks. I've since sold it and found the performance of this finless MacBook lacking for tasks I never expected to ask it to do. So now I'll be going all out on a top spec 14" MacBook Pro. I've used the M1 13" MacBook Pro and it's been incredible, so this will be perfect for my needs.

I used to upgrade every second year but the latest stuff has been so fast that the need to upgrade has gotten less and less for me.

I have a Series 6 Apple Watch and it's fantastic for working out. I never take my phone anymore. I didn't think I wanted one until I was bought one as a surprise gift and it's something I would never do without again.

My only gripe is my US carrier doesn't support cellular Apple Watches which would be nice for when I'm out hiking on trails or running.

I like to record the individual strength exercises so I can ensure muscle coverage. Garmin Connect has a view of muscles worked and I like to hit all of the major groups if I have the time.
