Same! I might just get an Apple Watch this year instead of both an iPhone and Apple Watch.
Might as well wait for the 14! Looks like this year's iPhone isn't going to be any major update, and besides your 12 can last another few years anyways. 14 is going to include fingerprint, punch hole notch, etc.

for me the product of the year would be a base model 14" MacBook Pro, with M1X / M2, 16gb ram standard, 512gb memory standard, at $1,499. Cherry on top?? Different color options.

TAKE MY MONEY.

That would be awesome, too bad the current 13” with those specs is already $1,699…

If I had to guess, I would say the 14” (if it replaces the current 2 port Pro) starts at $1600 with 8GB and 256 GB. We’ll see soon enough.

I am fearful of what they will be pricing the 32 or 64GB RAM models

I got it last year 😔

TBH, it's not that bad. The problem was that I specc'ed it out.
That's understandable. Speccing Macs out is a common source of regret, especially in situations like this.

I purchased a 2018 MBP 15" around 2½ years ago and decided to get the 32 GB RAM, Intel Core i9 and 1 TB option. It was a very pricey option—I'd never paid so much for a laptop, but justified it as a business expense. I regretted having done that just a matter of months later that same year, when the 2019 15" model (Intel) came out with the significantly more efficient processor and less clicky keyboard (still a butterfly keyboard, but noticeably softer to the touch and less noisy). The 2019 MBP 15" model with the newer processor clearly performs better on Geekbench tests than the 2018, even when purchased with less RAM. (I verified this by comparing the 2018 MBP 15" with 32GB RAM vs. the 2019 MBP 15" with 16GB RAM.)

When it comes to Apple products in particular, we just have to accept that the products evolve, and that what we purchased is only going to be the "top dog" until next year.

For the sake of the environment as well, maybe it's best to be happy with what we have for as long as it still serves our needs...

I hope these new macs come out with a redesign as well.
A few tweaks here and there just to make the looks of it a bit more fresh.

Not that I would upgrade, my 16 inch does enough for my daily specific usage, but I can see how the upgrade would benefit many.
🤞

Here we go....get ready folks...THIS IS NOT A DRILL!! GET YOUR WALLETS, APPLE PAY, AND PAYMENT INFORMATION READY! I'm sure these new products are gonna be supply-constrained heavily and if you haven't ordered in the first 10 min, your product won't be delivered until next year!!
Or, having been burned many times with day 1 purchases, wait to see what kind of wonk the new products have, let that sort out and then purchase it (perhaps at a discount)... patience is rewarded (and you won't die if you don't jump day 1).

heh you probably have 3 months to get ready! Cut out those lattes! Dunkin Donuts will close cuz Im gonna
start making my own coffee again 🙃

I did that at the beginning of the pandemic. Office had free coffee which I've used for decades. WFH means Coffee at home. There are four Dunkin Donuts within two miles of me and one within 1/2 mile and the idea of driving to get coffee is not something I really like. I could walk, of course, but there's a really bad intersection with no pedestrian signals that I really dislike.

I'm intrigued. The pandemic explains maybe 16 months of your separation, do you want to say about the rest of the time?
She was supposed to come just before all this crap started, like the end of 2019, she decided to come a few months later...that didn't end well.
Also, it's still hard for her to come here, with lots of paperwork.
She should have been here on a residence visa, had to learn the language though, but she's a bit older so not easy and then Corona came, no teachers allowed to do their jobs, can't get a resident visa without passing the language exam.

It should not take much longer, bit fed up with this.

The ports on that mockup are from around 10 years ago.
Funny thing is, in a lot of respects we're hoping the redesign to add back in updated versions of what older generations had included before being removed. I'm using a late 2011 13" and am looking to upgrade and it's very possible the new ones will in a lot of ways be a continuation of my current machine with magsafe, card slot and solid function keys

The rumors are that these will be redesigned. The first round of M1 Macs last year were just engine swaps in the same case. Since the new iMacs came out with a full redesign, we expect any new Macs to adopt a new design as well. Rumors suggest Apple is bringing back some of the older ports, too.

Why is it sad? Does your M1 MBP not do what you need it to do?
I think it’s all of the FOMO people feel, because bigger and better comes out every year instead of every three years now from Apple, which causes people to open their wallets to things they simply do not need. M1X will be better, but it won’t be as good as M2 or whatever, and will CONTINUE to be that way for the rest of human time.

I was really hoping to see a Mac mini among the new product releases. Seems like that's the one model that just doesn't get enough love. Apple regains it's senses
and put the regular function keys back, as well as brings back its mag safe chargers on the new laptops. Hopefully they'll similarly come to their senses on the Mac mini and allows user upgradable memory or hard drive, rather than current practice, ie forcing the customer to do an unchangeable one-time only configuration at the point of purchase.
