I'm hoping we see some love for the 13'' model, but considering the i5/i7 in the iMacs are, not really sure what to expected.

But I think I can wait

Called it

I've got a White MB for my gfriend a few days before the new UniWhitePlastic MB announcement, and I'm so happy! :D At least, going for that model I knew exactly what to expect from that laptop.
I've got the UniAluMB a year ago just after it came out, and now I'm so pissed off coz I have no SD card reader, a ****** screen, and it was also more expensive...

You know what, the White MB I've got few weeks ago is actually faster than my UniAluMB, which now is called 13"MBP! Cr@p.

Sounds promising. How long will it take though cos it could still be a few months away?!?

If it's a new model identifier (6 instead of 5), then it must be a chassis redesign...looks like it will probably be similar to the current offerings in terms of ports and such, but probably carrying a 16:9 aspect ratio, enough for a new chassis and thus new designator to be used...

That was mildly confusing, congrats to your recent happiness I suppose.

I would die for this to happen soon. (hopefully before the holidays) finger crossed that this happens :D

just wondering... whom actually needs i5/i7 on a "notebook"?!
Who needs really powerful machines, well, get a desktop or something similar!

the same person who is currently exporting a 3 hour sequence in final cut that's going to take 7 hours... that's who

They would probably have to redesign the case somewhat to accommodate for cooling these bad boys. Have you seen how huge the heat sinks in the new iMacs are??

The iMac uses the desktop version of the core i5 and i7, the laptop CPU's are totally different when it comes to power usage and cooling.

I'm hoping for core i7, somehow I doubt Apple will offer these and will instead stick to Arrandale which are not released until net year, if the do offer Clarksfield then I'll be buying one.

Moar graphics options please.

I'll take a 1 GB video card option, ATI or NVIDIA, don't care. Just update the graphics already!

Real Question

The question is do we see macbook pro updates before Christmas/Holidays?

Because for a lot of people the question is do you wait until essentially mid-January to get a new laptop? Probably not. But if its within a 2 month window, many people would wait.

Predictions?

Just been 4 months...its too early for an update. Even more so for a redesign unless Apple is really planning to do 16:9 on the laptop lines as well. So what? 14", 16" & 18" screens?

I personally think they're just laying foundations for next year's updates

...yeah...i wouldn't hold my breath

I'd wet myself if these "MacBookPro" are actually the rumored mac tablets... But I guess that's hoping for WAY too much

Same here. And you know what? My unibody MacBook is still a fantastic machine that I love more and more all the time. My wife has the 13-inch MBP with the card reader and FireWire, but I have no reason to be upset because if I needed a card reader and FireWire, I wouldn't have bought my MacBook in the first place. You have a great machine.

Are you sure that is the question. There is little evidence to suggest that these are anything but the long-expected January/February updates.

I'm assuming the laptop lineup will be updated with Arrandale chips in January - but this makes me wonder if Apple might not be privy to the chips a little earlier than everyone else. That would be welcome for the holidays. If not, no worries. Waiting until January is no big deal.

They've never offered 45W CPUs in a MacBook Pro simply because they use up too much power. Don't get your hopes up.

Apple also has to be thinking about replacing the Geforce 9400M with something else since nVidia doesn't have a license to make chipsets with QPI or DMI (Core i7 and i5/i3 respectively). There's no way they're going to purely rely on whatever integrated graphics Arrendale has on board. And that's probably why we are already seeing plist files for these Macs because they new graphics have to be tested sooner than usual.

And for the past 3.5 years, Apple has updated their MacBook Pro line every 9 months. Don't expect to see anything new until February. The fact that we found these files this "early" shouldn't mean a new update is imminent.

They get them earlier, but this would seem really early.

Geez, I bought my '08 Macbook Pro 15-inch in late October '08 (right when it was replaced with the new UB models) - it felt new then, even though it was around 6 months old, and I'm already 2 revisions behind with another one just around the corner.

And I just bumped up the RAM to 4gb in June.

I have to admit though, aside from maybe wanting to upgrade the GPU (which I don't really require anyway), I really don't see an upgrade necessary at this point. I love my Mac. I might even wait for a couple of more revisions before even considering an upgrade.

So bring on the new MBPs! Won't break my Mac, that's for sure!
