So, you all want:

- A bleeding-edge retina display
- In a shell no more than 1mm thicker than an iPad 2
- With LTE
- Made by people paid a respectable wage
- Made by people with an appreciating currency

And yet any price increase is a deal breaker?

it was TOO expensive to begin with

$79 is a decent increase for a retina display+LTE, so I wouldn't mind that. I have question though, do we get last year's Yellow-Bleeding/Screen Burns too?

If Apple ups the RAM to 1GB on the iPad 3 with the elusive retina display and faster SOC I can see the iPad 3 being more expensive than the iPad 2 and Apple keeps selling the iPad 2 for $499 and the iPad 3 for $579.

The specs on the iPad 3 beat all the specs from all the other tablets coming out.

People will pay it.

Seems a bit arrogant when Amazon is running pretty effective ads that point out, if want an e-reader and a media tablet, you can get a Kindle Touch and a Kindle Fire for less than the price of an iPad. And have no problems reading in the direct sun.

Now it would be a Kindle Touch and a Kindle Fire for half the price of an iPad.

I'm quite happy with a NOOK Simple Touch for 99USD for my reading. The Kindle felt like a piece of crap compared to the NOOK.

They can run that ad all they want, doesn't change the fact that you need both devices to match the functionality. Who wants to carry 2 devices?

These are such obvious fake stories. I don't get why are so many are so gullible to easily accept them on face value?

Let's just look at the facts (hate how they get in the way of a good story, right.)

Pricing Rumor:

1). Few have access to Apple's iPad3 price points right now. I bet Apple's ad agency doesn't even know right now.

2) The tablet market is heating up, and price points trending down -- even iPad 2 were routinely discounted $50 at Christmas -- Christmas! Not even Apple has the cahones to jack up prices some 10%.

Shipping Rumor:

While Apple may be shipping iPad3s right now, this story doesn't "feel" right. Apple uses FedEx and UPS, which have specific hubs all packages go before distributing to local hubs. None of the airports listed are among either companies main or regional hubs. Packages do not go direct from Hong Kong or China to LAX or ORD. They go to Alaska then Indiana or KY, or other hub first.

You guys don't get it do you ? The price of the iPad is NOT increasing... The value of the US dollar is DECREASING

What did you all expect? It's Tim Cook! He's driving this company into the ground slowly but surely.

Expected. That's why macs with retina displays will be BTO or expensive option in future. Anyone waiting for that on a budget best buy there mac now.

just like the euro. this doesnt matter to apple.

this makes the iPad even more of a gimmick.

apple has some really good values now:

the base MBA is great value
the ATV2 is great value

the iPad is horrible value
the iPhone is horrible value

the iPod Touch is reasonable value

it's quite interesting

hahahahaaha people getting bent out of shape over this

Why would apple reveal pricing info on a product they have yet to announce?

Plain ignorance. Why don't you share with us how Tim Cook is driving them into the ground.

I don't care about LTE. I'm fine with the wages they get, even at Foxconn (their wage is FAR above the minimum wage).

I don't know... I doubt about it.

Typically, Apple always keep the same price, or even drop it. I understand they might have some new cost such Retina Display or so, but I'm quite sure they would do everything to keep the price to the same price, even if they have to not include some features yet.

If they do increase the price, it means it will really be worth it and a huge step in comparison to the iPad 2.

Anyway, let's just wait few more days and we'll all know :)

Spid

hahahaha people saying $499 is the highest price people will pay for tablets...

Umm, last i checked, $499 is the MINIMUM price for an iPad. Models go up to $829... and last I checked, those models ARE selling, so obviously people are willing to pay more than $499 for their devices.

Bingo.

Most people I know spent way more than $499 on their iPad. Those people will be happy to pay more for a higher-resolution display.

And the folks who don't want that will keep buying iPad 2s just like they are today.

I don't like this rumor for myself, but it sure seems possible. It might be a totally made-up thing, too. So I'm not gonna spend too much time worrying about it either way just yet.

The shipping rumor portion.

These iPads "could" be destined for tech companies for NDA previews. There may not be as many being shipped as people think.
That and the airports they are going to seem to be the hubs for news media.
NYC, L.A. , Chicago.

I am betting that Apple sells the iPad II, iPad II+ and an iPad III. Some time a bit later in the year, they will launch an iPad III with 128gb however, it will not be ready at the initial iPad III launch.

The iPad II will be the budget device, the iPad II+ will be for normal users and the iPad III will be for professional use.

A large price increase for a higher resolution display which for the most part will offer some better looking text in a browser.. I don't think so - they'd be foolish to go any higher - it makes the competition look more attraction. As it stands the Android tablets all look crap by comparison.

I wonder how much of the retail price comprises the air shipping charges. All this air shipping has got to be quite expensive. I wonder what percentage of Apple's units come to the U.S. (or Europe) by air as opposed to boat.

A few months back, I needed another Apple Express and ordered from Apple. The unit was individually drop shipped from a Chinese address to my New York address. That can't be very efficient.

All Apple products are shipped from China via airfreight. They're small, expensive and in very high demand. Ocean freight can take 2-3 weeks. The inventory cost alone for those weeks would be enormous.

Tim Cook is largely responsible for Apple's supply chain. Rest assured that it is extremely efficient. If it wasn't, Apple wouldn't have 100 billion in the bank right now.

IF it's true that the freighters are carrying iPads to the US, then they are probably for Apple stores as well as Best Buy, Target, ATT, Verizon, etc. Apple will continue to ship iPads direct from China if ordered through the Apple online Store.
